Battery done 15+ hrs with a balance of 15%. Screen-on time over 5hrs. This is my 1st cycle charged. Charging now. Hope batt life is better for subsequent charges. Anybody know how to print screen on N7?

^ Same as any other Android device? Hold Vol-Down + Power/Standby button for a second.
My overall impressions after 2 days; I'm actually enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. Granted, this is my first Android tablet, so I can't exactly compare it to other Google slates. I did play with my sister's iPad 2 some months ago, and while the bigger screen is obviously more useful for certain applications, I think I prefer the 7" form factor much better. It's much more easier for one handed operation and much more comfy for browsing and typing compared to my Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4, or even my colleague’s Galaxy Note. I do sometimes wish it was lighter, but then I suppose they'd have to use cheaper materials which would make it lose its premium feel, or use materials like titanium or carbon fiber which would make it cost as much as a superbike. The battery life has been pretty decent (for a tablet) overall. I haven't really run it through a gaming or video torture test yet, but it's been great for browsing and emailing. Could easily last 2 days with my regular use. The standby/idle battery drain in particular has been excellent - better than my phone, in fact. It only went down 2% after 7 hours, and that was including an auto update for some Google apps while I was asleep. I just hope the battery drain remains consistent. The main problem with cheap Android devices (or even some expensive ones) for me has always been battery life drastically deteriorating ofter a couple of months (HTC are famous for this) of ownership. Also, this is the first Android device I haven't felt like rooting. There's just no need right now. When I got my Galaxy Nexus, I rooted it after a week, but I think I'll keep this on stock AOSP for a while, or at least until there's some ROM with a super feature that I want. Rant: I wish Google would give us a way to sort our app list. It's a pain seeing every single app you ever installed (even those deleted ones) under the "All Apps" section of the Play Store. Question: Any of you expert modders know a way of getting rid of the Application Launcher dock at teh bottom? I just don't like having a list of apps sitting on top of the navigation panel (design 101 fail). Would much rather have a small bar/dock along the right vertical side, with black background to match the top and bottom panels. I know some launchers can do this, but the Nexus 7 is so new so I'm not sure if any of them work properly yet. Apex Launcher worked fine on my Galaxy Nexus with ICS, but since upgrading to JB AOSP, I'm keeping it at stock for now. All other launchers would feel like adding another extra layer of bloat. Plus, I'm trying to limit myself to using Holo themed apps as much as possible on my Nexus 7. =P This post has been edited by G-17: Jul 27 2012, 09:04 PM |

That's why I use MIUI ROM for my Android, which the design is inspired by iOS. I doubt there is MIUI for nexus 7 since the MIUI is not optimized for tablet at all. I don't know much about nexus 7 modding community. +1 this question, want to know the answer too. This post has been edited by damned_dude: Jul 27 2012, 08:54 PM |

I doubt there is MIUI for nexus 7 since the MIUI is not optimized for tablet at all. I don't know much about nexus 7 modding community. Never tried MIUI on a phone before. It looks too much like iOS, and I already have an iPhone so it would be pointless. +1 this question, want to know the answer too. What I dislike about the ICS/JB dock is; 1. It sits right on top of the navigation panel (software buttons). A dock would look fine if the device had hardware buttons (like HTC of Sony phones), but if it's on-screen, you should NEVER put a dock on top of a panel. It's just wrong. 2. The center app icon is a nice minimal monochromatic one, but the icons on the left and right (unless you change them) are all colorful and overstated. Totally spoils the balance. I suppose I'll wait for a bit for launchers to catch up to Jelly Bean. Don't really want any fancy effects like Launcher Pro or ADW Ex. Most launchers are bloated, plus they're a bit buggy, and whenever the developer fixes one set of bugs, he introduces a totally new set of bugs in the process. All I want is to find a way to remove the dock and reposition the application icon along the sides or center. This post has been edited by G-17: Jul 27 2012, 09:14 PM |

My own unboxing of my Google Nexus 7 while I was in Auckland. Wasn't a pure unboxing as I've pre-loosen and pre-cut the stickers at the side so that I dont like an idiot unboxing it live with the impossible to take out box of the thing.

QUOTE(im_not_stupid @ Jul 27 2012, 11:16 PM) LOL. Gingerbread? It's f*ckin 2012 already!!Either way, the name stinks of propaganda. Some crony probably got a huge contract and pocketed most of the money for himself, using the small remaining amount to slap some cheap components together to create this piece of junk. It'll probably be given to students along with e-books full of distorted historical "facts" and false stories about Malaysia's "dynamic" economy. Testing Google Now and Sound Search on Nexus 7. Pardon the shaky cam, I'm doing this with my iPhone on my hand, and navigating the Nexus 7 on the other.

I'm happy to oblige you with more videos, shot that way then. Coz (1) it's my video, feel free to not watch it and (2) shooting landscape in hand without stabilised arm support means even shakier video.
Hands-on with Plex Media client, Dead Trigger, Dark Meadow and overall system UI responsiveness. Enjoy! Added on July 28, 2012, 1:25 amAlso, 17% left on the Nexus 7. Look at how long it has been running though. Plenty impressive figures, on par or better than my iPad. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by stringfellow: Jul 28 2012, 01:26 AM |

QUOTE(stringfellow) Hands-on with Plex Media client, Dead Trigger, Dark Meadow and overall system UI responsiveness. I thought Dead Trigger didn't work on the Nexus 7 after the 4.1.1.0 update. I was thinking of downloading it to give it some gaming love, but decided to wait until they removed that warning message on the game's Play Store page. Thanks for sharing the vids, btw. |
