Just reached hotel and unboxed the Nexus 7. Perfect screen, no blemishes whatsoever. Came out with 50% battery charge left. Stock sticker shows it arrived Auckland on the 19th.

The box is a b**** to open and unbox. Very nice feel of the back panel. Like golf ball. Charging it back with my Galaxy Nexus charger/microUSB cable.

Already took a video but not uploading it here in Auckland since data charges here(even Wifi) is expensive plus limited with data cap.

laugh.gif New Zealand. You better save your data. My friend over there all said their internet is bloody expensive. But service quality is better than M'sia.

Just got mine, and I agree about the box. The initial stage (the part where you have to slide it out) requires a power level of 9000+.... Seriously, you can enter that box in some sort of World's Strongest Man competition. >_<

Anyways, I just spent the last hour setting it up. First I examined all the edges, the glass the micro-usb port, the glass again, the back ..etc.

then set up my account, downloaded all my apps. Then did a dead pixel test. Then tested the navigation.. accelerometer seems to be working good, though I need to confirm later with some games.

No problems so far. Touch wood. Currently charging the bugger. Gonna try out more after a full charge.

First impressions:
It's built quite well. The back is lovely. The voice assistant for UK-English sucks. He's some cocky sounding guy, damn arrogant. Like those Earl's of Buckingham palace or something. The type of personality you definitely want to bash with a hammer in real life. . Change to the US English version for the sexy girl. Much better, although the stupid Americans still cannot spell "tyre" and "colour" correctly >_>

No $25 free credit or Transformers or books (there's no big media widget like in the reviews), which was to be expected, but I don't really care about that.

Oh, yeah, the thing is fast. Jelly Bean itself isn't really that new to me since I already have a Galaxy Nexus, but the apps all open faster on this Nexus 7 thanks to the faster processor, probably. I only had a bit of lag the first time Google+ was synching after the 4.1.1 update.

Don't plan to root it just yet. will see how it runs for a week or two.

Reported Problems

Screen separation and creaking

Android Authority discovered that some Nexus 7 screens don't appear to be attached very securely, causing the case to make a creaking sound. The geeks at Android Authroity and XDA Forums have a DIY fix, but we'd advise ordinary consumers to just return their tablets.

Backlight bleeding

Pocketnow found a Twitter report with a photo of the Nexus 7's backlight bleeding horribly, which makes the lighting on the screen look very uneven. This might be related to the screen assembly issue mentioned above. I've seen backlight bleeding problems on plenty of "cheapo" sub-$100 tablets; it's one of the things that doesn't get checked for when you're cutting corners

Charging problems

Chris Ziegler at The Verge, one of the foremost mobile experts in the U.S., had this problem: his Nexus 7 wouldn't charge off of various wall chargers. It turns out it shipped with a broken MicroUSB port. Search through forums and you'll find other people with the same problem.

Same problem, same issue, same theme. The Nexus 7 doesn't have a bug - most devices ship with their MicroUSB ports working just fine. But whoever's sourcing parts out in Taiwan may have gone with the lowest bidder, or the production line just isn't checking all the USB ports that go out.

Touch detection issues

This is the only problem on the list that may be solvable in software. Our sister site Geek.com has a video showing trouble with touch detection in some Tegra games, which the author surmises may have to do with heat.
Dead pixels
A poster on XDA Developers shows photos of a Nexus 7 screen with dead pixels, a traditional QA problem that has plagued every LCD-screen gadget from time to time.

Dead microphone

This complaint is going around with the geeks at XDA Forums. It looks like some tablets have gone out with bad microphones, and Google support is asking those users to send their tablets back.

The Scale of the Problem

The Nexus 7 is under a lot of scrutiny. It's a high-profile product. This is all good. But it's hard, without getting hundreds of tablets in one place, to tell how frequent these hardware issues are (and whether they're more frequent than hardware issues with other tablets).
We still recommend the Nexus 7 highly, because (unlike with the old iPhone Death Grip) none of these problems appear to be issues with the Nexus 7's design. Rather, they're manufacturing glitches affecting specific batches of devices. Still, though, don't be afraid to exchange your tablet for a fresh one if you see something wrong.

Yeah, I was a bit worried when I was unboxing my unit today, but thankfully no problems. Screen is fine and sitting flush, no flexing or creaking, charging is fine and the micro-usb connects securely, no bleeding, light-leaks or dead pixels. So far, it's been flawless, though I've only had it for a few hours. Who knows, it might just go kaput when I wake up tomorrow. lol

Btw, you shouldn't take Chris Ziegler's word too seriously. He's one of those Apple evangelists, along with people like John Gruber and MG Seigler. They'll find flaws that don't exist. I'm not really a big fan of Android myself, but I will give credit to good products, and my Nexus 7 (so far) has been great and Android has been better than iOS since ICS (Jelly Bean is just icing on the cake).

Nope. So far I haven't received any notification. I already was prepared for this, though. If you really want the credit, I suppose you'll need to register a new Google account from the country you purchased from (US, UK, Aus) under VPN or proxy. Not sure if they'll give you problems when Google Wallet recognizes your Credit Card as Malaysian registered. That's one thing I prefer about iOS. Easier to cheat. Sign up as US customer by giving a relative's or random Starbucks address, and then buy iTunes US gift cards to make purchases for apps, music, movies, etc.. Settle!!

Anyways, I've been playing with my Nexus 7 non-stop for 2 hours. Not even given the screen a chance to turn off on idle. Just non-stop browsing (many tabs), checking G+, Email, Maps, Voice Search and Google Currents (+ video). Also been playing with developer settings (that's why I love Nexus branded devices). Haven't done any gaming yet cos I wanted to test "standard" use situations. So far so good.

2hr+ = 20%, which means it should give the advertised 10hrs web browsing battery life. The screen is still the biggest draw, just like all other handsets. I turned on all the lights in m room and set the display to Auto-brightness, and no matter what I do, I cannot get screen drain below 80%.

I m glad you received a device without the many issues as many feared. This confirm its only batch problem. Hopefully i will also get a decent problem free device soon... Only disappointed with no free $25 google play credit.

I read and heard that some of this device have problem with the display due to poor QC of ASUS...(light leaking)
Anyone here have this device now and can confirm about it?

Also, is this device officially available in Malaysia yet?
