look in garage sales, got a user taking preorder. he estimate will sell at 900 for the 16GB model.

actually its really pointless to buy the 8GB model, maybe that one user available memory just 3-4GB only.

the 16GB one hopefully is 12-13GB, obviously not enough but still usable. cant complain at this price range.

Yea you are right.

But damn, USD199 for a quad-core.

Several deal-breaker
- no 3G
- no SD Card

My suggestion on how to live with it
- Use more cloud service; we have plenty, Google Drive, Dropbox etc
- Buy a mini-wifi. It is a portable hotspot (like the one in Android but this is a dedicated device to provide wireless data transmission). You can put a SIM in it.

But cloud service cost you huge amount of data, I suggest get an unlimited plan for data. Life is meaningless with capped speed once you get limited cry.gif
Maxis do offer corporate package, first month pay rm400. Then for every each next month only RM68. No VPN or tricky method involved. You got unlimited for the rest of your life. I got a friend using it for 4 month and yup it is true damn super unlimited. There's no official page for this in Maxis website though. They distribute through an agent offered specially for corporate ppl. We got one agent here at the WTS thread too.

Combine all this with a USD199 Tegra 3 720P HD Display, YUP I AM SO GOING TO BUY THISSS. I'm glad I canceled my decision to buy Kindle Fire hee

You will need to use Buyforme (HopShopGo) or Assisted purchase (Shipto.com) to preorder Nexus from Malaysia.

I check out shipto.com Assisted purchase and they charge 4.3% on paypal or credit card and then 8% commission. So the total is 12.3% where as HopShopGo charge 10% flat rate for personal item and 7% on prime reward item.

I check shipto.com shipping charges is pretty expensive about USD81 for 1kg. HopShopGo to Malaysia first 0.5Kg is about USD20.75 and every additional 0.5kg is USD3.25 and insurance is .065% of the value of purchase.

I would go with HopShopGo as it is a Paypal company.

just my 2 sen worth.

Thanks for your input.

Somemore, I re-read their assisted purchase terms and it seem they only can help purchasing only the buy now item at ebay. The price at ebay alone is damn high as majority of the seller is targeting buyer from outside USA. Need to buy from google directly.
Will be digging on HopShopGo more later

I think the shipping must be in approved country like US AFAIK. Proxy is just a way of fooling google play that the originating address is in US so if you have a ship to US address then it should not be a problem. Which is why there are services like HopShopGo and Shipto.

Sorry I'm not referring to you. I understand in your part it was HopShopGo that made the transaction for you and no proxy involved.

I was referring to Mikelanding, he bought the Nexus 7 using a malaysian credit card and if I'm correct, you would have to get into the Google Play device website first right?
It just that I didn't know before that you can even pay through a secure transaction USING a proxy as maybe Google Checkout security can detect that you are indeed using a proxy and therefore the transaction is rejected.

I don't really know as I have never tried it before. Nvm, carry on.

Nope. Have no interest in bulk order. Just searching the cheapest way to get a Nexus 7 for myself aha.
There is someone though in our garage sale doing bulk and taking pre-orders. You can search around.

Else based on what I read here. It's like 215USD+60USD postage for 8GB version. That will be RM865  doh.gif
*
60USD is the USPS Priority with insurance is it?

You guys think there will be a problem if just use cheap economy postage one? tongue.gif

Aghh those 60USD hurts my head. Guyysss we need to bulk and no markup involved. Me so poorrrrr

quite curious that is the  nexus 7 is eligible for any import duties? perhaps no???  smile.gif
*
Most of the time, not. It is only an electronic product worth USD199.
Unless you do a bulk order and bring in many, it will looks like you are going to resell it and thus customs may charge you some kind of import duties bla bla I have read this kind of detail somewhere not too long ago but forgot the source and some of the facts too. Anyway just prepare extra money to be safe although IMO you won't be likely charged for it.. This one needs further opinion from other member.

Other way you can ask your freight forwarder to label it as a 'gift'. I'm not sure if Shipito or HopShop allow this but back in the days when I were actively trading at eBay I ask my shipper to do this all the time. This is illegal by the way. I don't really care since the magic word 'gift' somehow can make the custom inspection process faster. When buying from outside, this custom inspection can make your package so long to arrive/deliver if you were unlucky. Sometimes they lazy do the job and just let your package go through, depending on the size of your package.
I once were unfortunate, the package stucked for 1 month. 2 weeks for deliver(which is normal for shipping from china to malaysia using cheap economy postage no tracking code) and 2 weeks for custom inspection only. I even blamed the sender for not shipping lol

QUOTE(mikelanding @ Jul 4 2012, 11:02 PM)
Just to clarify more.
My google wallet was long time setup. More than 2 years ago. First Purchase is May 2010. I not sure about that time need any address verification.
I did remember correctly that I use US VPN with bogus US address to register.

From below, I got Malaysia address AND Shipito US address..
user posted image

My steps to purchase Google Nexus 7 are:
1) Add in Shipito US address in my address book.
2) Use US VPN. Got to Google Play shop.
3) Make order. Select US address.
4) Check out using my google wallet.

Hope this clear thing out.

Thanks! Now this is sufficient.

I'm also curious about the taxation issue. I ordered from the Australian Play store. I have an Australian address and credit card (my sister lives in that address currently). I'm not sure about the taxation, but I live in Singapore now (I'm still Malaysian though), and as far as I know, computing products don't get taxed here. Not sure about to Malaysia. Shouldn't have tax, but there's always the risk of some corrupt monkey working in customs making things difficult for you.

The thing that annoys me more is this;

See the "Purchased from" address? I f#@kin live in the same country it's shipping from!! WTF, man!!
Maybe I should call that Asus SG phone number and find out if they can just deliver it straight to me here. They can keep the AU$19.99 shipping money, I just want it delivered faster and don't want to pay for the tablet's "return flight".

LOLL
Man how can you sleep at night knowing this??
Just rob the damn office and take your tablet loll

About the OTG matter ...
I jut read a post about a person successfully rooted n7 but not able to watch video directly from usb device but he could transfer the file to n7 and watch it ...

My question is ... can we use OTG to connect ALL usb devices ?? Example 500 gb external hdd.
*
I have read about this somewhere.. the OTG hack allows all types of usb mass storage, except for the spinning disk type. E.g, external hard disk.

Not sure if i understand it correct though. Other tablet can support external hard disk? All I know is that even ipad do not allow that kind of stuff so there is not many reason to be disappointed.

LOL

I occasionally use my dad's iPad, and the 10inch seems perfectly fine with me.
I guess I'm just too comfortable with 10inch.. might take some time with 7inch.

Can't really argue about this though as this is the matter of personal taste.

Well I do notice I'm getting manlier lately rclxs0.gif

Well thats weird coz one of the many praises for nexus 7 is the removal of its rear camera considering the awkwardness of taking pictures with a tablet and plus they get to reduce the price too.

The camera wasnt a big issue really, at least for me..

Too bad for you then. biggrin.gif

Anyway do remember this is specially designed to be an eBook reader. Not many productive stuff that can be done.

lol.. ya, i wish the camera there.. it has been useful to me.. and one of the Google features is the Goggles, in which u snap picture of something, then google search will find infos based on the pictures.. so this features is hindered then.. i use that features especially when travel oversea, to find building names, area and etc..

oh, it is designed to be an eBook reader? what a powerful ebook reader it is. quad core CPU, 12-core GPU.. the raw power is more capable to do many things.
*
QUOTE(mydragoon @ Jul 11 2012, 11:54 AM)
just remembered... ya, Google SkyMap dun need rear facing camera... smile.gif

Added on July 11, 2012, 12:00 pm
i believe the rear facing camera was left out so Asus can come up with an 'improved' version...

and honestly, i'd think that developer hardware should have everything+kitchen sink so they can develop applications without any constraints like "dang, i dun have a rear facing camera to test if the apps is working properly"...

but i guess in a way, maybe Google intends for 7" tablet to be really just for ebooks, movies and light surfing...
*
Yup. The quad core is for the sake of project butter biggrin.gif

I wonder what will happen if google are producing a $399 or maybe $499 tablet.. maybe 12cores!?! O.o

Well ipad is lucky that ppl at google are not targeting them. Maybe it's the lack of tablet app in android.

when i open my NEXUS, it asked me to connect to wifi and login into my google account. After that, they need my Credit Card for further registration in order to get the 25$. (just like how i apply for itunes, they need my credit card number too)

and wah laaa. the 25$ is mine.

Added on July 27, 2012, 12:21 am

ohya, btw, mayb it is bcoz i'm currently in australia and using my australian credit card issued by australian national bank.
*
Waa I don't know you need to give credit card information to get the 25$ credit. I think this is a really smart move by Google to educate users to actually use money for maximum usage of Google Play. You can opt to not give credit card information and if you do, you get a reward biggrin.gif
Rather than what Apple did, sure Apple has educates their user well, but kinda forcing it though.
Correct me if I'm mistaken. I registered my email with iTunes 2 years ago at that time iTunes didn't require any credit card information for registration. But my friend said now it is a compulsory.

Question:
Any of you expert modders know a way of getting rid of the Application Launcher dock at teh bottom? I just don't like having a list of apps sitting on top of the navigation panel (design 101 fail). Would much rather have a small bar/dock along the right vertical side, with black background to match the top and bottom panels. I know some launchers can do this, but the Nexus 7 is so new so I'm not sure if any of them work properly yet. Apex Launcher worked fine on my Galaxy Nexus with ICS, but since upgrading to JB AOSP, I'm keeping it at stock for now. All other launchers would feel like adding another extra layer of bloat. Plus, I'm trying to limit myself to using Holo themed as much as possible on my Nexus 7. =P

Yeah actually i kinda hate the application launcher too. That's why I use MIUI ROM for my Android, which the design is inspired by iOS. I doubt there is MIUI for nexus 7 since the MIUI is not optimized for tablet at all. I don't know much about nexus 7 modding community.

+1 this question, want to know the answer too.
