How is the weight? And is there a very noticeable difference in a FHD and HD screen?

if I'm not mistaken, you can use OC software to test(but not to OC the CPU, coz laptop cpu is not builded to oc) but run the CPU in 100% for several hours or even longer...5 or 8 hours. see how the temp.....

personal advice: just opinion arh, I don't want ruin people laptop because of my stupid opinion, pls don't do that la nod.gif

I have no idea for the such like Halo, BF3 etc...

But all laptop is heavy after u carrying it for 20 minutes. Get a backpack better. After i install Diablo 3 and play it, it auto set all to High settings. Graphic are very smooth, even 4 playes spam skills and 50+ of demons!

For the price. Beat Asus G55VW...but i like G55VW because the cooling system lol

Y580 come with GTX660M. not GT660! I think the highest graphic card for laptop now is GTX670M. Maybe some have 2 card.

Selling in Malaysia only 3399!!! Where to get? 2 yrs international warranty!!! 8GB RAM 800MHz........ 1 TB HDD.....i heard can add in ssd...need to confirm with it.

around 200 I think.

scraping off the blu-ray would save even more money.

my only concern is the build quality. finally, they've corrected the stupid placement of Fn key and ctrl.

Anybody with information regarding the Y480 with GT650M in Malaysia? Prefer 14" for portability but if all else fails i'd go with the Y580 fo suree thumbup.gif

I have no idea.. should be ok as long as it doesn't affect your gaming experience. laugh.gif

It could be nvidia driver throttling it in furmark or it didn't get enough juice from power supply. I reckon its the former. hmm.gif

Is there a noticeable difference between hd(1366x768) and full-hd(1920x1080) on 15 inch laptop?

This beast is perfect if it comes with full hd resolution.

Yes, the difference is extremely tangible unfortunately sad.gif
Well, you can still consider the MSI GE60 and Asus G55vw, even though their more expensive...
Otherwise, just get this, and pair it up with a good external monitor~
The GPU in this beast is quite capable thumbup.gif

I was told that we can hardly notice the difference between HD and Full-HD on a 15 inch monitor though unless you're processing some really high-resolution pictures.
Just hope that lenovo will release the model with a Full-HD variant.

if you're used to desktop reso and 1366x768 you will feel cramped initially. afterwards, things will work out. higher resolution in the same size yields better image quality though things will get smaller(not the case for FPS games)

deepcool0922,
Can you provide a screenshot of GPUz for GTX660M?
Hope its not a cripple GTX660M. tongue.gif
Link: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/

GPU is throttling to 815mhz at 70C. Most probably CPU will also be throttle as temp should be higher than GPU.
Wonder whether any sudden drop of fps in hardcore game due to GPU or CPU throttling? hmm.gif

Cannot be. FHD is selling point. If Y580 is FHD, will be listed.

FARK!! if it comes with FHD then it would probably be the best laptop for now. But still it is quite worth it IMO.

Lenovo has answered in their facebook

lenovo Y580, does it have the 1080P Display variant?
Lenovo Malaysia: "the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 does not have a 1080p display variant model, it currently comes with at 15.6" WLED screen!"

Is Lenovo Y580 out in shops already? Saw Lenovo's advertisement in The Star. And if it is, which shop can we get it from? Thank you!
Lenovo Malaysia: "Yes, once it is released you will be able to find the specs on the Lenovo Malaysia website! At the moment there are no solid plans to release the Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 with Nvidia GT650m GPU in Malaysia, but we will keep you updated when we have more solid information on that!"

The dell 15r se with FHD+ a 3 year warranty+backlit keyboard RM3221 with 9%rebate +RM200 rebate

lenovo y580 RM3399,with 2 year warranty (thinking extand to 3 year warranty if suit my budget)

3399-3221=RM179

The difference leh,() winner
1.more power gpu ,radeon 7730 hd vs GTX 660 (y580)

2.sharper screen (15r)

3.1TB HDD 7200 (y580)

4.Blu-ray drive hmm.gif (y580)

More difference is welcome if here have something missing~ brows.gif

Conclusion me hard decide to buy which one~ cry.gif Super Max Budget RM3500(At 1st my budget start 2.5k) rclxub.gif ,previously asked the buying laptop thread here end up choosing 15r se FHD ,but now this beast is coming make me itchy FXXK!!!! doh.gif

i'm not sure if 1tb 7200rpm HDD exists, or is it a typo. I can't see any high end laptop using it either.
blue-ray drive, it depends on if you need to use it
the lenovo has a more powerful CPU( althought they differ a little bit only) and GPU
the dell has 32gb msata SSD also, which will be used as caching drive.
more information here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4329/intel-z...aching-review/2

it depends on your preference after all, if you will game a lot in the future, then consider getting lenovo

you can wait and see if lenovo release y580 with FREEDOS and install ahem version of windows :\

what kind of games do you play btw?

lol I didn't check it. Now on shift. Will check it at the morning.

If got higher budget, I recommend G55VW.

Y580 save couple bucks for me. For those like to play halo, BF3, etc high graphic rendering game, G55VW is the best or G75.

I just play Dota & diablo now. Movie I go IMAX.

I have no idea why ppl struggling on FHD and HD screen. Really can enjoy a movie in 15.6" screen.

Try 22, maybe 24"......will feel 15.6" so small. Like back to the CRT monitor. I used 17" one last time~

the i7-3612qm and i5-3210m has similar performance in a single threaded program, and has double performance under multi threaded program.
remember to test if the hdd is 5400/7200 rpm, I doubt it's typo yawn.gif
FHD on 15" should be enough (the new 15" macbook pro with retina display uses 2880*1400) or something similar.

remember to test if the hdd is 5400/7200 rpm, I doubt it's typo yawn.gif
FHD on 15" should be enough (the new 15" macbook pro with retina display uses 2880*1400) or something similar.

Lenovo Malaysia: Hi there, the resolution for the IdeaPad Y580 is 1920x1080. The device is due for release in Malaysia by late June 2012. Hope this helps! biggrin.gif

I kinda find it strange that they have printed flyers and stated on their marketing materials that the lappie would be available "mid-June" and don't have one on display or sale....

It's already 14.6.2012

Arghh...late june..sorry didn't read earlier...

One more question guys....does the 8gb SDRAM matter?

For Y580 seems like it's glare (glossy) screen. If want anti-glare (matte) screen, then have to go for dell 15R SE with FHD option.

I don't like the glossy screen too much, but I love the rest of the Y580's spec and price.. now pening

The latest driver version 295.55 display the wrong info in GPUz. Roll back to the factory default version 295.93 which display the correct info in GPUz.

definitely, especially if you play RTS/MOBA

Many people overlook screen properties and go straight for raw specs. tell you what, you got 7970m CFX also no good if your screen quality terrible shiat.

better panels = better color = better image quality
more pixels = dense distribution = smoothened edges = better image quality

you cannot SEE THE RESULTS AFTER PLAYING DIABLO OR ANY GAMESyou wont see the highest temp..

you should monitor the temp during the game.. download a tool named GPU-Z..this tool will monitor temp during game, and you can see the highest temp during game..

bith the software you using now records the CURRENT TEMP ONLY

i realize that your GPU core temp very high, but your GPU fan only 50%. If 75% might help you cooling down. But dont know will make noise ornot.

Anyone in MY already own this Y580?

Care to shard where did you bought and how much was it?

Confirm a FHD Y580 is going to be available at MY as well? Any source to support?

If yes, any idea when the FHD is gonna be available in MY?

This afternoon purposely went to Lenovo roadshow at Midvalley to ask about the Y580.

The news is, one of the guy there told me the Y580 will not be available so soon...

Hopefully can get it before end of this month, if not have to buy another laptop lo...

agreed...they should hav included fhd screen instead of blu ray drive...lenovo definitely going to lose some potential buyers bcoz of tat...ppl who owned a fhd laptop would not go b to hd screen d and also with a gtx660m gc, gamers would definitely wan to play their games on fhd 1...hopefully they release another variant with fhd in malaysia...

The post which blames hdd itself for high temperature is pointless, I have 1TB hdd which only runs on 42C++, and it's the same model yawn.gif

I don't think its gonna affect performance but high heat reduce your HDD lifespan significantly imo. hmm.gif

About the heat thing, after reading the hdd specs carefully, it says

non operation environmental temp -40 to 70 degrees (to me, this means storage temp)
operation environmental temp 5 to 55 degrees (to me, this means the internal temp of a running laptop)

that's saying the during operation, the HDD should be subjected to an environment less than 55 degrees, not the hdd itself cannot be running at a temp hotter than 55 degrees. With this said, being baked by CPU and GPU is not an ideal situation, but without knowing the exact environment temp, we're discussing an unknown factor, no point.

The post that points to the hdd as source of high temp may be valid from the stand point that a 7200 1TB hdd runs hotter than a 5400 500GB hdd, so the direct hdd temp reading is higher, but both hdd is safe as long as they both operate in an environment less than 55 degrees.

But of course the hdd is still cooled by its environment (which corresponds to the manufacturer recommending a max environmental temp), and two different laptop using the same hdd may have different hdd temp reading during operation, as the laptop with better internal cooling & temp will result to a cooler hdd.

Both statement seems valid to me.

my 2 cents

i wonder why the price are so cheap? 2day i walk in lowyat plaza surveying this laptop they sell for 2900 only, very tempting but i dont want to make a mistake like last time i buy lenovo y570 that come with gt555m, later then i research that y570 gt555m are the gimped and cripple version and also i just know that gt555m have many version, also i just look at the review for y580 graphic performance score for WEI is 7.1 but asus g55vw score are 7.3, maybe many people said that WEI are rubbish but i dont think so, i have already use asus g73jh that use ATI 5870 (WEI = 7.3) (way better then 192bit gtx 560m) and asus g53jw that use gtx 460m (WEI = 7.1) the performance are totally different, so can anyone here comment anything about y580?are this laptop come with cripple gtx660m? bcoz if really used gimped version there is no point buying it for gaming

Even if the card is gimped.looking at this laptop's performance in gaming,I'd say it's still pretty darn worth it.

So far there's no report that the GPU is gimped. If there is it would be discovered immediately.

Mid-bottom for both game. This is laptop graphic, unless Alienware. 3d mark 06 with 304.48 beta driver is 141xxx.

The key is that you can't really compare two different architectures just on core clock speed... in that case we could easily compare AMD and Nvidia just by the core speed, which would generally be different because of how scarce components can be placed in the die. What Nvidia has removed from the Fermi has to be compensated by something in the Kepler architecture, so it's no big deal if the clock speed increases, but the result of the entire die does not beat the 670M. Again Kepler is a focus on efficiency and a slight improvement on performance, in short a give and take. Having best of both world is what we called the ideal GPU.

If you want to compare clock speed, you need to make sure other things like architecture are constants in the discussion subject.

good! light and simple comparison. less power to move more cores, much lesser.

true. wat u said was right. its hard to compare two performance with different architecture. everything had their pros n cons, and different focus point.

Wow! want to stress ur baby kau-kau ah... biggrin.gif
Nice CPU & GPU temp below 90C tho' the temperature still increasing & not yet stable. Unfortunately, no GPUz screen shot to determine any GPU throttling.
By the way, are u running with cooler or air-cond.

zig zag line is normal. How to maintain temperature at straight line???

Stress CPU, GPU & HDD for 45 minutes...Lazy to wait till 1 hour.

Anyone have other brand Stress Test result?

CPU temperature maintain btw 82-92. Most of the time on 88-89. I recorded a video, the upload speed so slow...

zigzag line means the processor is being throttled for some second, resulting it to be cooler and hence the lower temperature reading, and when the temperature is low enough, throttling is disabled, and temp goes up and again and again.

Thank u so much for taking the trouble to run the FULL stress test which pushing ur baby to its limit. notworthy.gif
During FULL stress, CPU max at 92c, GPU 75c without any throttling showing that the FULL copper heat sink is working great thumbup.gif.
The temp look quite impressive when compare to Asus G55VW stress with Furmark & Prime95, CPU max at 95c & GPU 77c tho' under different test setup/temperature.
HDD's temp. can be easily taking care off by using a suitable cooler.

Ahh.. GPU throttles to 835mhz when u OC it to 970mhz with temp 78c. Lenovo is throtting the GPU when it hit 78c. They don't allow us to oc the GPU tho' its still far below the safe limit. Sifu, any way to bypass it? brows.gif

but luckily the ram, hdd, msata and the wifi module is easily accessible. And looks like from the pics of disassembly that the cpu can be quite easily swap with higher end model.

Comparing it with my dell vostro 3450, it's a wonder. Wondering if there are any laptop that worse than my 3450 in term of maintenance though? Just some babbling smile.gif

Gotta put this laptop in my checklist!

Got my Lenovo Y580 from Ajul since last Thursday night. Got to admit that this is one awesome machine. I have been using it to play Diablo 3 for the past 4 days and faced no issues like overheating/lag/etc. I thought that the HD screen (not FHD) was okay but it was incomparable to my old MacBook Pro in terms of color generation... Kinda disappointed with that. But gaming is definitely spectacular on this machine for this price drool.gif

but i guess is better that they dont plan to hav 1 if they r not going to release both HD and FHD at the same time...if not then they will end up like the asus n56vz and vm in malaysia which pisses off a lot of the early buyers bcoz fhd n hd does make quite some difference especially on a 15" screen...

This is the result I got after playing CODMW3 and Crysis 2 for about an hour... rclxms.gif Hard disk max temp was 54 degrees. Normal usage will make it hover at around 42 degrees. Room is air-conditioned

My Sager will never be that low(after 1 hour of crysis2) no matter how good my air-cond is. tongue.gif

I'm not sure whether its the laptop or the GPU that is very good, but i'm very impressed. thumbup.gif

Too bad to hear about the HDD temp though.

How much you bought that unit for? From which seller?
The FHD variant that seller is selling @ RM2999, quite attractive I'd say.

I just called Lenovo Malaysia to see if the warranty of the US unit can be extended, guess what?
They said "US version of Y580 is not covered by Lenovo Malaysia".
When I asked why the seller states that unit comes with 1 year international warranty, the officer said "Maybe in other countries?". sweat.gif
All the units selling in garage sales are local units or what? (Now I only realize the units selling in garage sales now are from China)
