You're forgetting the Fuji X10. Ah maybe it's too big compared to the others.  blush.gif

X10 is nice but still doubts about the orb issue and menu system a bit clunky.. and big.

Err.... Are you referring to the Samsung?

Added on July 8, 2012, 2:27 pm

The Samsung comes with the 'grip'... Looks like its more ergonomic compared with the oly, Sony, canon, panny. And also the tilt screen, which would be great for self or couple portraits.

Not really.. no doubt that on paper, the f1.4 lens trumps all the current enthuasiast compacts using the same 1/1.7 inch sensor but after using S90 and XZ-1, got urge for bigger sensor di.
Kinda hope XZ-2 will be an even bigger revolution since Oly is in bed with Sony now according to the rumors.

so if xz 2 does not come with a bigger sensor, the rx 100 will be on top of your list?

am i correct to say (IMHO) that a bigger sensor is what i should look for in a high end compact? f1.8+larger sensor=better bokeh?

second criteria will be the wide aperture for low light pics?

If XZ2 don't come with bigger sensor, I just stick to XZ1 lo.

This has nothing to do with bokeh la... even RX100 sensor is too small for useful bokeh.

Larger sensor = cleaner low and high ISO shots, dynamic range and what not. The faster lens serves to offset the disadvantage of smaller sensor against bigger ones on dslrs lo.

The new sensor/lens combo seems to fix it. The menu is pretty straight forward to me. It's the limitations in certain modes that's confusing. Can't deny the size though. tongue.gif

I wonder what Panasonic will bring to the table on 18th of July with the new LX7.

Oh ya it has the 2nd "all time brighter" lens with f2.0-2.8. But still 2 stops slower than EX2F and 1 stop slower than XZ-1 and RX100. But no-doubt it's a capable camera. Ah..I like the VF.

What I like is its capability to use adaptive accessories, like G10,11,12 and G1X. How good if XZ-1 and RX100 comes with that design and filter threads.

I heard people saying that Olympus "confessed" the use of Sony manufactured sensors on their cameras, but the official statement is nowhere to be found. ><

I have a feeling that in future, we can further sub-categorize the "Semi-pro compacts" or "Prosumer compacts" into "large aperture cameras", "performance oriented cameras", "large sensor equipped cameras" etc.

Maybe it's too detailed, but nowadays we can see a large numbers of "large aperture compacts", and few "performance oriented compacts". The above-mentioned XZ-1, RX100 and EX2F being in the former group, and G1X and P7000 being in the later group.

Haha. Just kidding.

I think i can agree on that. One group being small enough to go into the pocket with minimal buttons. And the other one being bigger with viewfinder and have more external controls.

Technically, X10's lens is only 1/3 stop slower than XZ-1 from wide to zoom and 1 2/3 stop faster zoomed compared with RX100.

Also why you think G1X and P7000 is "performance orientated"?

I guess the idea of categorizing them in performance orientated, would be solely based on their appearance. They do look like tough guys in compacts I guess. I heard that there is an AF lag in G1X also. But they're neither good on optics.

No idea at all. If it's released, I'll bring my Sony alpha and XZ-1 to try it out. tongue.gif

Its about the size of Xz-1. The only High end PnS that can slip
comfortably into a pocket is the S90/S95/S100. biggrin.gif

Actually its quite a bit thinner than the xz1. The oly needs a lenscap or autocap which wasnt shown on the pic while the rx100's built-in

By the way I'm curious to see Sigma's DP series, in compared in the above-mentioned models. Sigma does have brilliant prime optics and Foveon sensor.

Yeah... I've not played with one but the general consensus looks like the Sigma's overall user experience seems to be frustrating.

Btw... LL's review of the RX100 is up. Darn poisonous ... better start to menabung di.

not really.. this is a camera not to replace dslrs but to act as a very very capable 2nd camera which is also pocket-able at the same time

actually, i'm one of those who will be putting down my dslr ( maybe for a period of time...) and going to a high end compact. so i'll be replacing my dslr with either the successor to xz1/s100 or the rx100. i'm still waiting for the others to show up first.
