Wow Very expensive high end point and shoot
At 36mm thick Sony Rx100 is not as pocketable as Canon S100 but it will put
pressure on Canon to get future S105 right with bigger sensor and faster lens
but maintain current size. S100 is such a lemon with decentered lens
and now lens cannot retract issue. whistling.gif
S105, XZ2 and LX7 will be out soon. Sure must be good one drool.gif

Its about the size of Xz-1. The only High end PnS that can slip
comfortably into a pocket is the S90/S95/S100. biggrin.gif

Pana GX1 with 14mm quite limiting plus I thought users are complaining
it has crippling slow AF? whistling.gif

RX100 is king of premium PnS for now rclxms.gif

After converting to RM still cheaper than RX100.
It's the same size as my XZ-1 more or less.
Where got? GX1 AF is super snappy wan. Can personally attest to that.

And yes.. RX100 looks good considering LX7's dissappointing specs but its still closer to premium compact performance while the GX1 is closer to dslr performance wo.
True... don't like the PZ lens at all. The size is nice but sloooooooow and the damn ahbeng red fonts all over the place.

Sorry, sorry G1X AF slow not GX1 sweat.gif

where ? where? biggrin.gif

Added on July 22, 2012, 3:51 pmI am looking to buy a premium compact and right now the RX100 is top
of the list. Someone did an estimate on the size of the new Canon M
and if he is right it is even smaller than the RX100 and S100.
Anyway we will know tomorrow and hope it will not be too expensive
like the Oly EM5 biggrin.gif

Steve Huff really really really...........like this camera smile.gif

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2012/07/26/t...-actually-ever/

"I will keep this simple. The Sony RX100 is the best compact camera to ever be released in the digital world. Ever. Period. End of story. Will to be the best for long? Who knows but I do know it is not a camera that will hold you back from taking any kind of photos you want. If you have the passion, the creativity and drive you can make amazing photos with the RX100. I highly recommend it. I bought it smile.gif -"

So basically you're just branding yourself as a sheep.. who only follow what others do, without having any standpoint of your own. How sad.
*
Don't be sad because many people feel this way about Sony. Only Sony think they
are still a premium brand and can charge a premium price for their products. Many
consumers dont agree thats why they are loosing billions every year. That being said
I think RX100 is at the top of its class now and I will buy it but I still wish it was some
other brand instead of Sony tongue.gif

Sony centers have begun displaying test units. Smaller than expected only slightly
bigger than my S95. Solid Build quality buttons and rear wheel better than Canon.
The front control ring has no clicking feel but is quite firm to rotate. Wonder if it
will loosen with use. biggrin.gif

Do you guys know that RX100 has very soft corners when shot wide open esp on the wide end? You can download the Imaging Resources resolution pic to see.

The LX7 (with brighter Leica lens) on the other hand has very sharp corners even shot at f1.4 and even sharper than LX5 wide open at f2.0. I compare the tele end and found the same results.

The RX100 is about sensor. The LX7 is about lens. And LX7 will have a good sensor too because it is not made by Panasonic, probably Sony too. And Pentax Q has half the size of these 1/1.7" CMOS sensor and yet the sensor outperform all 1/1.7" CCD in the class (XZ1, G12, S100, LX5, etc).

The usable f1.4 of LX7 will offset the better sensor of RX100 because when you shoot ISO800 f2 at RX100, you can shoot ISO400 f1.4 at LX7. Based on the Nikon 1 sensor and Pentax Q dxomark, it is less than 1 stop better.

Actually LX7 is not an evolution but a revolution if you are able to look deeper. It is not a disappointment but a breakthrough, again if you are able to look deeper.
*
LX3 to LX5 to LX7 and S90 to S95 to S100 . They are all evolution meaning
slight improvement over the previous model. No matter how deep we look
there is no drastic improvement that can be considered revolutionary whistling.gif
It would be revolutionary if Panasonic made their LX7 like the RX100 but with
optional EVF, tilt and touch screen. Just my opinion LOL

Finally Olympus and Canon show their card on their latest High End P&S but both also not any big deal. Guess this year Sony win the tittles of the best high end pns.
*
Yeah looks like RX100 will be the best for one year at least until next year photokina
Bad news is because of this price is not going to drop much anytime soon biggrin.gif

I just received the grip attachment from Shashinki. The quality is really good and improved the handling of the camera.

it would be nice if they give a flat piece in same material to stick on the other side of the lens:-)
