mSATA SSD usually using for caching, but of course u can also install OS inside, but speed will be slower than normal SSD and they are also SATA II only

For Y580 model, can anyone confirm what is the SATA port for DVD drive slot? Is it SATA II(2) or SATA III(3)? Because want to swap out the HDD with SSD, worry the HDD will be more slow if swap to DVD slot.
TQ!

if you look through this thread from the start, it's mentioned multiple times that on Y580 HDD slot is SATA3 while ODD slot & mSATA slot is SATA2

The different of these two processor just 0.1GHz, in term of performance not too much different

It's not too much different, if I am not mistaken the 3630 is the replacement model for 3610. All new batch of Y580 should be containing i7-3630.
It does not make sense for you to go for 3610, unless that you have a budget constrain and the vendor willing to cut the price for you.
If so, does it justified for the amount of price cut in return of sacrificing 100 Mhz lor.
If it is affordable, extra juice will always be good as backup for future purpose. icon_idea.gif

for normal use , i5 is enough. any i7 proc is overkill. so it is up to u to choose 3630 or 3610

The I7 is mainly for gaming, as well as the graphic card inside it

uh no.... i5 is enough for gaming.... i7 is more for heavy use like video rendering etc...
that's why there's no need actually to go for i7 if there's i5 alternative as most likely i7 wont be optimized fully smile.gif

Barely any games make use of more than dual core other than real time strategy games, the quad core just means unnecessary extra heat. But yes quad cores are extremely useful for rendering purposes.
