Tommy Smith:

YOU’D be a fool not to understand the natural concerns of Liverpool fans following the dismissal of Kenny Dalglish.

Whether in time it proves to be a clever decision or a stupid one, we’ll just have to wait and see now.

But many supporters are very worried, inevitably wondering if the owners really do know what they are doing in sacking a Liverpool manager after just 16 months in charge.

In my day, football club owners were nearly always local businessmen who’d come good. They were English people who had grown up with the game all around them to some degree.

The big fear now is that we have foreign owners, in our case Americans, who might believe they know best but who in reality don’t know quite as much about the game as they think.

It’s less than two years since FSG took over and that isn’t a long time to understand a sport they knew little or nothing about before buying the club.

But there’s no doubt we’ve been through a very poor season in terms of league results. And they suddenly feel they’ve seen enough.

I still believe Dalglish should have been given time to put things right but having played in America at the end of my career, I also know US sports owners are by nature ruthless and impatient.

They don’t hesitate to sack people if they are not delivering. And delivering means providing a return on their investment.

It’s all about money now and if winning equates to one and the same thing, there’s no room left for people to be given time to achieve.

If FSG are right and we go on to challenge at the top and return to the Champions League, we’ll all be delighted.

Ultimately everyone wants the same thing - but they clearly want it for two different reasons.

Good managers would normally deliver good results in one season (12 months).
Good results in terms of game results, depth of squad, good football, good signings and developments.

Manager like Di Matteo delivered results in half season (6 months).
That is a solid justification to hand him the job.
Whether Di Matteo can deliver the same results in next season, 2012/13, we leave it to fortune teller.
For now, we need justification instead of fortune telling.

As we still debate on the same debate, I think King Kenny had more than enough time to do himself justice.

It is not necessary to put that statement in the mouth of Torres.
It is something uncalled-for.

How much have they invested? Have FSG made profit or made a return?

Have to admit feeling bitter that the Russkies won it. Nobody can deny now that money INDEED will buy you sucess.

One thing in common, these rich owners pay big money for big names.
I doubt they pay 20 millions on no-name.

Liverpool was sold to FSG for 300mil, not sure if it includes the repayment of 350mil debt we had under H&G but 300mil isn't a small amount while FSG is a sports investment group so of course they would want something in return...surely they wouldn't already have made a return on their investments after just one and a half season. Also talks about a possible new stadium is still ongoing and surely they need funds for that. I guess that is why they are desperate for us to get back into CL.

even by just running on the pitch, us Chelsea fans appreciate what every player contributes to the team. Torres needed some time to gel with the team and he is getting better with every game. He scored a huge goal against Barca and it cemented us a place in the finals, how is that just a passenger?

by making a statement that he is a passenger just shows how jealous and bitter you are because Torres lifted the FA cup and Champions League in a blue jersey instead of a red one.

True that, it's pretty sad that Torres gave his prime to Liverpool but never got a medal, only came very close to the Premier League in 2009. We won the FA Cup in 2006, were in the Champions League final twice in 3 years and won it once, but he only came after the second final. In the end he got what we won before he joined us in Chelsea, when he was no longer guaranteed any starting place. I guess it's fated. hmm.gif So it's good to see him got the redemption with all the things that he didn't get to win with us..

hmm dont be..i mean you dont need to be worried about torres at all...you all let him walk alone..come on..that guy put 50mil and years of service for Liverpool FC..that guy deserves some respect..

He played..so not nothing at all..maybe not as much as we all expect but..he contributed..if u really say that he basically did nothing..then you already undermined the backup players and youngsters of Liverpool that help u to win the League Cup..

yeah we do expect alot from Torres, but regardless, look at the Chelsea fans, we cheer him on every time he warms up, even after 1.5 years without making much of an impact. yet almost half you decides to continue to belittle him because he decided to leave.
