Thanks for the info!! Sorry, didn't know that PBT + backlight don't go together (lol I thought my research "mencukupi" but apparently not). I'll probably wind up going with the PBT & sacrifice backlight as I really really hate the "shiny" look of worn keycaps.

However, with Filco keyboards I've seen a lot of ppl saying that when they wanted to replace the keys, the spacebar was a problem. Would the Leopold be more standard if I want to change keycaps?

I'm a banana so may have some trouble with taobao (unless I can bribe one of my chinese-literate pals lol), so prob not my first choice. Is there anyplace else I could look at mech keyboards locally?

Also, how's the key stability for the above boards which you recommended? E.g. Ducky uses cherry stabilizer for large keys on its keyboards, whereas Filco just uses a wire.

Do hope to hear from others!

From your words, they clearly shows you've done your homework, just some minor minor details error smile.gif don't worry we're all learning.

Well, regarding the spacebar compatibility problem.. Leopold is the one who has problem.. whereas Filco and Ducky doesn't have that problem. nod.gif

so far, most of the after-market spacebars could fit both standard and leopold's

Whether Ducky's Cherry stabilizer or Filco's Costar stabilizer... it's a matter of personal preference, some prefer costar's, some prefer cherry's

It's up to you bro rolleyes.gif

Cherry stabilizers and Blue switches are bad.
Otherwise, it's pretty much okay if you don't care much.

I'd tell you more about lubed switches and how it affects feeling on the Cherry stabilizers but you'd probably do not want to care as much.

I'm interested! Do tell me more, am looking to get my first mech kb soon and want to get it absolutely right, don't have money to experiment with several different keyboards.

Have done my research but everytime I think I've pinned my specs down someone surprises me with something I didn't know, lol. If you don't mind, could you look at my post (here) and rec me some mech keyboards?

for your budget, filco/ducky/leopold/KBT are some really good choices. I chose filco because it just feels better overall. i don't need backlighting and numpad too. If you want a simple yet sophisticated, compact yet solid build quality, Filco/Leopold is your best bet. If you want a jack of all trades and don't really bother with all the fine details in terms of quality, Ducky Shine is the way to go.

If you've set your mind on PBT, you can always get a filco then get a set of PBT keycaps from taobao. Of course, that would incur more cost. Afterall, since when were PBT keycaps cheap anyway haha

Actually as mentioned b4, the BL keycaps on Deck are PBT. But it is close to extinction/not possible to land our hand on, thus it isn't really concerning us...

Filco's keycaps standard are pretty much standard. You won't face problem with most replacement keycaps.

LOL yeah I took one look at Deck Legend's PRICE and ran far, far away. Plus I really don't like the font they use.

Thanks for the tip on Filco, will check out more Filco kb.

btw,
I'm thinking to design a keyboard by my ownself.

Imagine o, what condition, with what kind of features, quality you'll buy a custom built brand?

I mean, generally, what you guys normally look at for a mechanical kb?
