Aye
Barca's play reminded me of Liverpool...lotsa posession and pressin, but goals hard to come by.
IMO that Barca's play has been found out.....
a) barca's strength is posession and pressing
b) Barca's weakness is their defence AND inability to change their play mid game. They
dont have a Big No.9. They tried to suss this out by having Ibrahimovic but he doesnt like the bench!
They are also missin the predator like us in Villa/Etoo missing
c) Therefore crowd the box defensively and hope. Rafa used this aginst them before and it worked as well.
d) Then play a strong ONe man striker and hope for the breaks
e) Otherwsie its penalties which is a roulette
Yup but I guess the difference is Barca still managed to score 3 goals in the 3 games where they played like us XD We go on without goals at Anfield!!
I actually didn't think Barca did badly or anything. They still managed to play passes and one-twos in amazingly tight areas as when Messi had the shot saved by Cech (he would normally score thatn 9 out of 10 times) and when Fabregas won the penalty and over two legs they were definitely the better side but as usual, it's goals that count. I think if Messi had scored the penalty, they would have gone through and he has to take abit part of blame as he was the one who lost the ball when Chelsea scored at Stamford Bridge.
I think it's more of they DON'T want to change their play, rather than unable to because I have to be honest and say I respect them for that. They believe in their style of player which has served them well over 4 years but I don't think they can be too disappointed with the result because, well, they have been dominant for probably 4 years and you just can't win everything. Even the best Liverpool sides have lost games.
Yes, one way to stop teams like Barca (and ourselves) as both play alot of possession is to just crowd the box. 95% of the time, that will work but actually leaves the team vulnerable to counter attacks because the whole Barca and Liverpool team would automatically push up.
I think they definitely missed David Villa this season and no matter how got Leo Messi is, it's almost impossible to just depend on him. And having said that, Barca lack a world class central defender (Pique is very good though) and goalkeeper (Valdes is crap!!). Having Abidal out doesn't help either because I would think their best back four are Alves-Puyol-Pique-Abidal.

Chelsea? The players are super good. The only thing is they are selective about their gaffer. Di Matteo knows how to rub their egos and make them happy and hence, the willingness to go all out for him on the pitch. Scolari and AVB are good coaches and tacticians but they lost half the battle when their troops goes into the pitch half hearted...
True but remember under Scolari and AvB, Chelsea had a very good start to the season only to falter after that. I'm not liking it under Di Matteo cause he's getting them the results! And for me, Chelsea's best player this season is easily Ramires and he's .. out of the Champions League final along with Meireles, Ivanovic and Terry!

How many times did Suarez fail to score from one-on-ones this season?

"Doing it right" is putting the ball in the back of the net. Just tap it in or place the shot. Not aiming for hollywood shots which risk being ricocheted off the crossbar.
Looking at the 29 times vid someone posted (was it you?), many of the shots were either half chances or shots from acute angles. Ergo we were never gonna score from those shots.
What I don't understand is how keepers always manage to give in amazing performances at Anfield.
That is why I said "kinda" doing it right and I don't think the players are always trying to score hollywood goals. I don't know why but 29 times hitting the woodwork is just ... retarded ... and it has happened in the cup games as well.
And as you said, plus the fact that goalkeepers have the games of their lives at Anfield ... I don't think the players have done alot of wrong.

i know. Its mindboggling we manage to hit the post all season yet me mange 40 goals in 34 matches in the league. in cup competition we fair much better. its not sumthing that happen since Aug 2011 but with the extended slump, thing got from bad to worst. Frustration sets in.
I dun blame the player for lack urgency. we manage to create chances, we dominate the entire game but we cannot slot the ball into the net. what happen during the 2nd half last season, i call it euphoria. a legend step in after a bad start and morale and spirit is high. its the same for Chelsea now. Di Matteo step in after AVB fails and every1 is eager to change. The real Di Matteo work is next season (if he gets the job).
at the end of day, reality is no win no points. no amount of chances or hitting the post will gv us money or send us to CL.
That's very true but I think in all competitions, we have hit the post or bar about 32 times only for three of them to actually end up being goals! It just doesn't make sense how the ball can't go in and what doesn't make even more sense is .. how does the opponents score from their only shot on target!! The scores could have at least remain 0-0 !!!
