Imo, if a newb starts off with ss rather tHan just doing a chest arms routine id say hes off to a good start.
This was my thought when I saw the initial post of ss sucks for making progress in BB or PL.
It isn't apples to apples comparison. SS is meant for beginners. It isn't meant to be stuck to forever. And many people have made great progress (if reviews are to be believed) with it. There are people who disliked it or did not find it useful but thats true for any program or item. *shrugs*
Eventually as an intermediate or advanced lifter, you are very likely going to want to move on to a different program (someone elses or your own) to lift greater poundage. 5/3/1 is definitely not a beginners program

It may be something I look at implementing when I have a few years experience under my belt although I expect I will be perfectly content keeping things much simpler.
