Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone ever made. It's one of the best smartphones ever made, and with a couple of minor tweaks (particularly to the camera), it could be the best smartphone ever produced.
Still, there's really not much to knock here. The hardware is elegant and smartly designed. The software is beautiful and useful. Google has cleaned up a lot of the bad, and replaced it with a serious amount of good. It's faster, smarter, and a lot more friendly than any of its predecessors. Ice Cream Sandwich easily gives iOS and Windows Phone a run for their money, and in many ways, it's a superior operating system than either of them. If there's a bone to pick, perhaps it's with the size, which could be off-putting to some, or the fact that right now the only carrier you can definitely get the phone on in the US will be Verizon. But those are minor blips on the radar, not show stoppers.
Since day one, I've been waiting for an Android device that lived up to the promise of such a powerful OS. I think I can stop waiting now. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is so important again because it's the only time Google gets to dictate everything - the hardware, the software, and update timing. There's also the element of freedom, with unlockable hardware out of the box. I find myself wishing that Google had begun its adventure sticking it to the carriers with pentaband WCDMA support like this phone finally has, as that would've been much more successful than the practice of releasing a few different Nexus variants with different bands.
As far as Ice Cream Sandwich is concerned, it really is Android perfected. Everything is smoother, faster and nearly all of our issues with the OS have been addressed. ICS brings Android into 2012 and gives Google a great platform to begin to introduce new features going forward. Android is now very close to UI performance parity with iOS, which eliminates a major tradeoff you had to make in the past. If you were hoping for ICS to be iOS with a Google logo on it, you'll be sorely disappointed. However if you're a fan of Android and just wished it were smoother and more polished, Ice Cream Sandwich is what you've been waiting for. Full review here.

Make no mistake, this is the best Android phone around today. It’s impossible to divorce Samsung’s hardware from the Ice Cream Sandwich experience, for the moment at least. That may change as more manufactures offer Android 4.0 phones, but for now it’s tough to think of going back to a Gingerbread or earlier device. ICS’ finessed software works beautifully with Samsung’s hardware and – with the exception of the camera, perhaps, which can be a minor blot on the Galaxy Nexus’ score sheet – the sum of the two parts is massively compelling. While there were some hardware complaints, and even though Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t the most intuitive or user friendly operating system, it’s absolutely one of the most powerful. Android 4.0 is coupled with the best smartphone Samsung has ever produced and easily leapfrogs any other competitor’s device.
Unfortunately in the Android world, this hardly lasts a long time, and as we have started to see in various leaks, there’s going to be some serious competition for the best Android smartphone in the world over the next few months. For now, though, this marriage of hardware and software, under Google and Samsung’s direction, is an absolute winner. Full review here.

Personally, I’ve already been taken in by the Galaxy Nexus’s charms, and have been thoroughly spoiled in the process. It’s the most impressive smartphone I’ve ever used, and after just a few days, older versions of Android already feel ... well, old. Many other phones will get a taste of Android 4.0 in early 2012, but make no mistake, the Galaxy Nexus is the device that ICS was meant to be used on. The sheer speed of the hardware and software, combined with the slickness and beauty of the new stock Android UI makes the device a joy to use. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android device ever because it’s the best all-round Android phone. Not only is the design almost flawless but the screen is sharp, the camera capable and the software a huge leap forward. Considering it will have a software lead of at least three to four months on any new device being released with ICS, for many people it is reason enough to upgrade. Ice Cream Sandwich is the biggest leap in smartphone operating systems since perhaps iOS 2 to iOS 3 (or maybe iOS 4 to iOS 5, we can’t decide) but it fundamentally alters the way Android users interact with their phones. Beyond those gimmicks that don’t work as well in the real world as they do on television commercials, Ice Cream Sandwich’s main claim to fame is that it’s a more-polished version of Android — it’s easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing than any of its predecessors. Bravo, Google — I’m looking forward to further refinements of Android, and if this leap forward is any indication, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system has even brighter days ahead.
Couple that with this gorgeous and subtly curved handset, and you have yourself a winner. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is by far the best Android phone I’ve seen yet. Full review here.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone I've ever touched before. This is easy to say for a couple of reasons. Up until the Galaxy Nexus, my hands-down favorite phone was the Galaxy S II (specifically the Sprint and international versions) and the Galaxy Nexus is rather similar when it comes to in-hand feel and build quality. That said, the Galaxy Nexus goes above and beyond with a modern and sexy design that makes you feel like you're holding the future in your hand. Full review here.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the most exciting Android device I’ve had an opportunity to review. Not only does it feature an exceptional design by Samsung and an impressive list of specs, but it’s also the first device to utilize the newest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0.
It is, without a doubt, the best Android smartphone of the year.

If you're contemplating on buying AP set, jpaq has some advice for you to consider.
QUOTE(jpaq @ Mar 14 2012, 04:38 PM)
It's all a matter of luck, bro. Many people who have bought an AP unit has had no problems whatsoever. However, there are some who have experienced faulty units before as well. To be clear, I myself rather not buy an AP unit.
But do ask the seller about his one-to-one exchange policy. If he says if there is any problem within 7 days, and a one-to-one exchange is allowed within that period, then it is pretty fair for an AP unit. But then, ask him further, if the 2nd unit is also found to be faulty, then what would be his policy. Then consider what he tells you. If you find it acceptable, go ahead and buy it and have fun. Oh, and do get the name of the guy who attends to you, for future reference.
However, do be meticulous with your checking of the unit. When at the shop, check as many things on the phone as you can, at the bare minimum, check for any scratches, dents, cracks and chips. Check for any colour peeling or dis-colouration of every physical part of the phone that you can see, including the logos. Also check the battery cover for any breakage in the clips. Another phone shop seller once told me that he got in a unit from his supplier where one or more of the battery cover clip(s) was/were broken.
Do switch the phone on and inspect with your naked eye for any abnormality in the display. Also see whether the display responds ok with your touches. Then slip in your SIM card and make a few calls. Check for any abnormality in the sound coming out from the earpiece. I have had an earpiece problem before. Not common, but it happened to me. Then ask whomever you are calling whether you sound clear to them or not. Then ask that person to call you back to check again.
After all that, when you get home, do play the heck out of your phone. Go google for apps which let your check for any defects in the display, like dead pixels, etc. Plug in a set of earphones (your fav or the in-box ones) and test. Play some songs through the earphones as well as through the speaker. Listen for any crackling sounds or other abnormality. Make calls, send SMSes, emails, etc. Plug it into your computer to see whether everything is working as it should be. Use the phone fully and even stress the phone if you can (but I don't mean physically!!!).
If everything works out ok, great! If not, go back immediately to the seller. Be firm (but not rude) with the seller when conveying to him your problem(s). If he had promised a one-to-one exchange earlier and you are within the time given, insist on that. I have to add that many sellers would rather not have to do a one-to-one exchange if they can help it. It means that they would have one less phone to sell. But insist on it if he has given you his word. And if he tells you that there is currently no stock to exchange for you at the moment, insist that a new unit should be given to you no longer than in 2 weeks time. Otherwise, ask for your hard earned money back and get the phone from somewhere else.
Honestly, I have not dealt with this directd ever before. From the forums, some say he is ok but could be perceived as a little stuck up. Ignore all this when your are dealing with him. Just be professional and expect professionalism from him as well. Keep it strictly business.
All the best.

5MP S5K4E1G is the camera sensor that is used in the Galaxy Nexus
QUOTE
The S5K4E1G is a highly integrated QSXGA camera chip which includes CMOS image sensor (CIS) and CCP2- compliant image data interface. It is fabricated by SAMSUNG 90nm CMOS image sensor process developed for imaging application to realize high-efficiency and low-power photo sensor. The sensor consists of 2608 x 1960 effective pixels which meet with 1/4 inch optical format. The CIS has on-chip 12-bit ADC arrays to digitize the pixel output and also on-chip Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) to reduce Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) drastically. The image data interface performs data formatting, image compression, Image scaling and serial transmission using Sub-LVDS. The host controller is able to access and control this device via CCI bus. The S5K4E1G is suitable for low power camera module with 2.8V/1.8V power supply.

I get the feeling I could repeat this a hundred times and people wouldn't listen, but here goes:
The number of megapixels on your camera phone does not matter.
Please, read that again. And again.
The limiting factor in your camera phone is the physical size of the sensor and the lens. You aren't going to resolve much good detail past 5 megapixels, AND you will start contributing heavily to noise by shrinking the photosites.
The new iPhone 4S camera is great, but it is not great because it is 8 megapixels. It is great because it's a high quality sensor and a nice lens. It is great in spite of it being 8 megapixels.
I have printed poster-size with a Nikon D2h. That was a 4 megapixels camera. Those were 4 very high quality megapixels with the right glass on the camera. Having more, lower quality pixels is not the right way to approach cameras. From binary vision at Android Forums
alternatively, if you seek to get better photo with the Galaxy Nexus, you could consider getting extended lens option from Photojojo

Insufficient storage space?

Why does this phone not include a Micro SD slot?
QUOTE
There are many reasons floating around, but the reason I’ve seen by at least a few Googlers is that if an app utilizes an SD card’s storage in some way (say, storing a user’s data) and then the user removes the card, that app has to be programmed to handle the card’s disappearance. It’s easier for developers to code apps that keep everything in the internal storage (e.g. the app’s folder in /data/data) than have to handle the presence/absence of external media.
Without an SD card, how can I flash ROMs, back up my data between wipes, etc?
QUOTE
The internal media storage space (for example, the ~13GB left over in the UK model) IS subject to being wiped when user data is wiped (since it is mounted as /data/media). However, custom recoveries have been made for other devices that skip wiping this directory, so once CWM or another recovery for the GN comes out with that feature, you won't need to back-up your media folder before wiping.

Its a SGX540, the same one in the Nexus S, but significantly higher clocked, running at 384mhz.
QUOTE
Iit's only the GPU that isn't as fast (the CPU is as fast as anything on the market right now, and faster than the iPhone). This will be the third fastest GPU on the market, behind the PowerVR SGX543 of the iPhone, and the Mali-400 of the Samsung Galaxy S2. For most tasks, of course, there will be tons of horsepower available for things like hardware acceleration of the OS, basic processing tasks, etc. These are not generally a challenge to most GPUs. The real question is, how will it handle games or apps like Google Earth or other 3D-intensive apps?
Think about this: when game developers release a game for the PC, do they optimize it so that it will only run on the brand new, top-of-the-line, $600 graphics card? Of course not. They wouldn't sell many copies, would they? Expect the same here. The PowerVR SGX540 of the Nexus is a potent GPU, one of the fastest on the market. Not being the fastest shouldn't be a concern. From Android Forums
Also, if you didn't notice already, games that are actually fun don't rely on polygon counts to sell the game, ie. cut the rope, plant vs zombie, coin drop, etc etc. If the iPhone 4 with SGX535, a lower end GPU than Nexus S, can have great game titles, I don't see how the G Nexus can't.
Food for thought, if the G Nexus can already play 95% of the games in the market (the other 5% being Tegra3 exclusives ), what significance does it make that the GPU scored lower in benchmarks?

Only had a brief listen on mine using some Yuin PK2s that I have.
I've come from an Xperia Arc, and before that I did have a SGS2 for a while.
I've not had enough time to make a definitive view but at this stage, the Nexus sounds more open than the Arc (which had a warm veil to the sound imo) and seems to be able to drive the Yuin's much better than the SGS2 - my ears will give up before I reach max volume this time around.
To my ears, at this stage, it offers a pretty well balanced sound - plenty of detail resolved without sounding overly harsh on the tracks I have tried. The mids certainly sound better than the previous 2 phones mentioned from my recollection.
Not had a play with any equaliser settings yet as I prefer listening without tweaking these in any way if possible.

1. Don't worry it blows the GS2 out the water. Highs are high, lows are low. Tested with .flac on same settings via power amp.

4. Gone are the days of the Bluetooth audio crackle via A2DP. It has very good quality via A2DP even compared to GS2 CM7.

Google+ application settings on an Android phone will automatically upload new photos and videos to a Google+ album. There's no need to panic, though, as the photos and the album itself will remain private until you sign into Google+ and specify which images you want to share with select circles
To disable automatic upload from the Google+ Android app, select "Settings" within the "Menu" screen and uncheck "Instant Upload." Now you have control of which mobile photos make it to your private Google+ album.
The Instant Upload settings allows for further customization, including uploading all existing photos on your phone, uploading only when connected to a WiFi network (good for those with capped data plans), and uploading only when the phone is charging.
If you've ever had or used Picasa, there is a chance you've got an album there that Google is picking up and syncing.
Click on the "My Photos" tab, click on the offending album, click on the "actions" tab, and choose "delete album".
To delete the synced photos from Gallery
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google +
Then press the "Clear data" button.
Now when you go back to the gallery the instant upload and any photos linked in Picasa will be gone.
You should also disable the syncing before doing this if you don't want them to come back again.

Multitasking?

QUOTE(mark @ Mar 14 2012, 08:52 PM)
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding running apps, multitasking, background tasks and such.
When you launch an Android app, the task is active/running. You use the app, play with the app, etc.
When you exit back to the home screen (or go to a different app), the app is stopped. This means that the app is frozen and will not run/take up battery/etc. It also means the Android OS can freely kill that task if the Android OS needs more memory for other things (i.e. you opened up a really heavy game, you haven't gone back to that app in a while, etc).
So how does multitasking work? How does your app check for email in the background? This is done by something called services. Services run in the background, you don't really see it anywhere on your screen. Even when you quit your app, it still has a service running in the background. It checks your mail even if you're not in the app, it checks for new messages when you're not in the app. If you're busy downloading something using your browser, and you go to a different app, your download still continues, because the browser is running it's own download service in the background.
An example to this would be WhatsApp. If you don't open the app, how does it check for new messages for you? It runs the WhatsApp background service to check for messages for you. You don't have to open the app to keep checking for new messages, it already runs by itself in the background. The Android OS takes care of what services to run, kill, etc automatically for you. That's why if you use a manual task killer (you shouldn't, btw), after a few minutes you'll notice the WhatsApp service running again.
This, of course, does not apply to ALL apps. It depends on whether the app developer has made such a feature available or not. Let's take Draw Something as another example. It doesn't have a background service, therefore it doesn't notify you if you have new drawings to guess.
tl;dr, to answer your question, you don't have to open viber/yahoo/gmail/gtalk to get notifications. The notification part of these apps are running in the background and are checking for new messages for you.
Also, regarding the ICS tasks button, all the tasks listed there are "frozen" apps... the apps themselves aren't running and aren't taking any CPU resources.
For better understanding, you can also read up on the Android Activity Lifecycle, but it's more technical and more for programmers: Android Activity Lifecycle

The primary goal of Face Unlock is to provide a measure of security if you accidentally leave your phone on, say, a bus or train. Don't worry, it is perfectly normal if you feel that your phone is heating up around the camera area, especially when you are using your phone, even if its just minor activities. (you don't know what's going on in the background).

Rubin is explaining what makes a “Nexus” phone, as opposed to any old Android phone. Basically, Google gets deeply involved in the design, working with the hardware maker and the chipmakers. Rubin notes there are over a million lines of code in Android.
“So much work goes into producing the UI and the changes that you make, and then typically what happens is that the OEM’s put their skins on it and put their own touch. Does it bother you that so much work goes into it and in the end, a lot of consumers don’t interact with the UI as you intended it?”
Well, it would bother me more if we didn’t have programs like the Nexus program. The idea behind the Nexus device is to do exactly that – to give consumers an option to use the baseline work that we do if they choose…the philosophy of Android, the idea that partners can customize Android if they want to, is really important to making Android successful. There are Android phones (Nexus). And there are Sense phones (HTC). And there are Philblur Motorola phones. And there are TouchWiz phones. And so on and so forth.
With the Nexus line, Google has its flagships, its models of how its operating system should work. The broader world of Android is more like MS-DOS—the original "weak OS." Every version of the software is retailored and rebranded by its manufacturer. Even some software has to be rewritten to conform to different machines and their varied specs. But what you get is accelerated development of hardware and broad interoperability between machines, which benefits both users and developers.
Why does this distinction matter?
If you're an Android user, you may simply have to accept that you didn't buy an Android device running Google software; you bought a device from Samsung, Motorola or Amazon running Samsung, Motorola or Amazon software. Unless you have a Nexus, Google's more or less invisible on your device. Finally, you're never going to be able to just pull a brand-new software update out of the cloud and stick it on your machine. Not unless you're up for a little hacking. From Arstechnica
QUOTE
There is on one specific reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus so bad. It's everything brought together in a single device, all of the gripes and disappointment in other, non-Nexus handsets that I've had over the past two years and the thought of using Android specifically how Google envisions it. Not everyone will agree, not will everyone understand. But we all have our reasons for the preferences we have, and a run-of-the-mill Android phone just doesn't cut it for me anymore. From PhoneDog
QUOTE
But that is the philosophy of Android, a philosophy that had eluded me until now. To Google, Android is an operating system. To companies like HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is the building-blocks with which they will build their own unique devices.
Google makes Android phones. Apple makes iOS phones. HTC makes Sense phones. Samsung makes TouchWiz phones. Motorola makes MotoBlur phones.
I've absolutely loved using my pre-release Galaxy Nexus phone running the new version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. It is truly beautiful hardware with incredible software. By Larry Page, CEO of Google

In this post, I’ll be talking about the rooting process of an Android device as far as my best knowledge allows me to. Regarding ‘root’ itself, please consult the many definitions around the internet. In short, it is a special permission granted to a user to perform low level operations on a system (like backing up your Angry Birds game data, or changing the boot animation). 'Rooting' is the process of obtaining the means to grant this permission.

It will because the service.jar is different... just run again. One time optimization is all you need.
Previously, I have state the steps on page 77 .This time I present V6 supercharger! Credits on XDA If you think you really need supercharged your Galaxy Nexus V6 boomer, Here is the script~
1. Download V6 supercharged pdf files at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...&postcount=5021 where the most bottom in download list is the latest. After that, copy and paste on your GNex SD-Card. [Latest release: V6 SuperCharger Update 9 RC8.2] 2. Make sure you have Terminal Emulator installed (It's free in Google Play) before replacing your services.jar! 3. Use Root explorer to copy your services.jar to your sdcard. From /system/framework folder. 4. After copying your services.jar go to http://android.mimic.ca and upload your services.jar file. 5. Be patiently, it takes like 5 minutes to modify then download the modified services.jar. 6. Copy the modified services.jar to /system then changed its permissions which is rw--r--r in the /system/framework folder. 7. Then move the services.jar with changed permissions to the /system/framework folder. 8. Once you have done that, open up Terminal Emulator. 9. Type this out, follow the code instructions.
CODE
su enter cd /system/framework enter chown 0.0 services.jar enter chmod 644 services.jar enter reboot enter
10. Start up Terminal Emulator, type this out, follow the code instructions.
CODE
su enter sh /sdcard/V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC8.2.sh.pdf (follow exactly your downloaded pdf file name)
11. The script will load and is mostly self explanatory. It will take you through the options when you first run it. 12. Set the text scrolling on fast which is 1 13. Set Disable the animation and integrate when it asks. 14. When you get back to the main menu, Select option 10. It calculates what minfree values to use based on the ram of the phone. 15. After all this, reboot once more and run the script again to see if you are 100% supercharged!
EDIT: if you run into bootloops by moving your services.jar incorrectly, then just reflash your rom without wiping.

those who dislike the micro lag when opening app drawer, this is the mod for you. After reading that thread, main cause for this seems to be that the home screen is killed to make space for other apps in memory, so there will be times where the home screen requires redraw. What this mod does is make the home screen the top priority in the memory process, so it doesn't get killed easily or not at all.

If you are having problem in applying wet SP, which is a must if you're looking for something that covers full front of the phone, here are some tips written by droid13579
Before you begin, cut your fingernails and wash your hands. This is to prevent nail damage to the skin and minimum the risk of bringing lint, dust and dirt.
Location to skin application: There are few locations are suitable for application: Steamy Bathroom (is a PLUS since steam is capable to trap dust) Bathroom Kitchen Bedroom Study Room/Guest Room
As long you switch off any air ventilation like fan, air conditioner. Lock your door and windows, your fine to proceed. Clean your area, to minimum the risk of bringing lint and dust.
After cleaning your area, prepare your own solution (if they don't provide you) try look for a shallow dish plate or spray bottle. Put 2 or 3 drops of mild soap and mix it with water, and you now have your own solution.
For mild soap, I suggest using baby shampoo like Johnson baby shampoo or any dish wash liquid.
Once your have your own solution, prepare your own version of squegee card if they don't provide you. Any credit card would be fine but make sure they have straight edges to prevent damage your skin during squegee.
Now you have those two main stuffs, time to bring out your paper towel or microfibre cloth. Personally, I prefer paper towel because it is easily available than microfibre cloth, or anti fog cloth is good to go.
Once you have those stuffs, bring out your skin and read their instructions. Some might give tips for application process.
Time for application, first wash your hands once again and clean them with your paper towel.
Before application, clean your device with your microfibre, anti-fog or paper towel to remove smudges and dust on your screen. TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE, REMOVE YOUR BATTERY, ENGAGE THE ON SWITCH!
For Spray Bottle method: Spray your non-adhesive skin for two pumps, then wet your fingers with your spray. Peel your Skin, immediately and give like 3 ~ 4 pumps on adhesive side.
Now place on your device screen, and align it with your fingers. Your skin should move freely for this time. After you have set your alignment, leave your device like 1~2 minutes.
After 1~2 minutes, prepare your credit card or squegee card. Start push your access liquid and air bubbles from middle to the left or middle to the right while try not to move your skin, DO NOT squegee the skin to hard or it will leave marks, or causing miss align.
Keep squeegee for like 5~8 minutes to remove all bubbles and use your paper towel/microfibre cloth to trap any water/liquid to prevent get into the device. After that, clean and damp the screen with paper towel/micro fibre cloth.
Now your skin should be like clean and zero bubbles, if they do have don't peel or being paranoiac. Look for a windy place and place your device there for 12/24 hours. Those streaks, micro-bubbles will dissipated during these period.
AND NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD BE LOOK CLEAN AND BRAND NEW!
Shallow Plate "Dip" Method for Wet Screen Protector Application
When I said Shallow Plate to Dip your solution is not to immerse your skin to your solution. This might be tricky but if you do it properly it also gives a good look when it is done.
First, Prepare a shallow dish plate fill with water and add 2~3 drops of baby shampoo/ dish wash liquid mix with your finger and you have your own version of solution. Not to forget prepare your anti fog cloth/ micro fibre, paper towel and squeegee card/credit card.
**You may use warm water as an alternative.**
Now, wash your hands and clean your device to remove all those dirt, dust, lint and grease. Not to forget remove the battery, turn off the device.
Begin to dip the non adhesive side, a shallow dip is enough not immerse the skin. If it is too wet, shake vigorously to remove big water particles. Wet your fingertips by dip into your solution and peel it. Give shallow dip for non adhesive side and shake it.
**If you think shake vigorously still look wet for both sides, try wipe on one direction like butter on toast to remove excess water, liquid.**
Immediately, place your skin to your device and leave it for 1~2 minutes. Now your skin should move freely, and try align it in this time. Remember align it with your fingers gently by recognize it front facing cameras, proximal sensors and ambient sensors and front speakers.
After 1~2 minutes, start squeegee with your credit card from middle to left/right then up to down. Don't squeegee too hard or else you will damage the skin. Do this for 5~8 minutes.
**While Squeegee, try damp the excess solution and not to push the solution to cut outs**
After 5~8 minutes, wipe/damp the excess solution with paper towel/mircofibre/anti fog cloth. Your skin should look free bubbles. If you do saw a streaks, micro-bubbles. Don't be paranoiac and peel it, find a windy place at let it dry for 12/24 hours.
NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD LOOK CLEAR LIKE IT WAS NO SCREEN PROTECTOR, TIME TO FOOL YOUR FRIENDS AND SAID I HAVE GONE NAKED WITH MY SCREEN

yakju is the stock Google's firmware, so everything is safe here. non-yakju is Samsung's firmware, and will still receive update, but a different batch than yakju ones
For those who want to check Yakju or non-Yakju build on Galaxy Nexus:
1. Download "Android System Info" from market. 2. Launch it 3. Go to System tab 4. Under it, click to expand Buildinfo 5. See Product
download the USB driver and firmware files to Windows (may take multiple tries, keep trying). run USB driver app in Windows run firmware app in Windows put phone in download mode (power off, volume down + power on, plug USB cable in) in firmware app, click start!
and you're done! You're now yakju with latest Google ITL41F.
those with sme sets, u can slowly wait for ur update....
i was so pissed when i found out sme sets get their updates thru samsung again, not the best idea...
I hope samsung never gets chosen for the next nexus device. they really fuked this device badly with their stupid thinking...
same same here. I hope next nexus better back to HTC. HTC doing well in rolled out latest firmware update and better if compare among other famous brands. 2nd, really fuked off why all the extra accessories not launch together since the 1st day with device. really pissed off for waiting the official docking station. either HTC or Sony, Moto, they have nice and interesting optional accessories offered Samsung?
Congratulations on the new V8 thread and also to new members, welcome to the club 194 owners, hope to see more user come here register and post here anything about gnex.
Can anyone clarify is there any battery issue with gnex? Say can it last a full day with 3g always on? No games played just maybe facebooking abit.. Thanks

I love the GNex design bcoz of its screen is black-huge-elegant with no words 'SAMSUNG'. Plus if you are using black case, some people will not notice what phone it is
i see alot of folks flashing their yakjuxw device to yakju to get 4.0.4.
I know this is a pretty straight forward step but it will also wipe your phone clean right? While i can do the necessary backing up of my contacts etc, I'm more curious about what happens to my apps.

low budget categories, huawei is the best and also ICS update rolled out early, good job! I guess google like other OEM which is decide which SoC, Screen and the spec of the phone, and of cource google own all software development; then and appointed htc, samsung or any potential hardware manufacturer for production. But google didn't design SoC; Qualcomm, TI or Exynos are the 1 design processor.
I dun want to b**** here or anything but the battery life is sux big time, the only way to improve it is not to use the phone, lets face it the battery life is just sux. I maybe because of the slightly larger screen and reso.

I'm not sure about Windows XP MTP issue, I googled and this is what I get
apparently someone has the same problem.
Actually if you have Wifi connection, you can use bulk transfer the files wirelessly, using Wifi Explorer Pro or AirDroid.

3 hours of screen time is quite normal for this phone.
If want the battery to last longer then you can find the 2000mAh extended battery.

If it were left to Samsung they would have chosen their own Exynos line. the TI OMAP processor chosen by google is actually well documented and can be considered as an open hardware. which means that you can do a lot more with the processor. think very specialized task like the nexus s used by NASA. anyway you can read it here http://www.xda-developers.com/android/inte...ler-pt-3-final/

I guess Galaxy Nexus is an exclusion because if you look at the previous nexus phones. Like HTC and Samsung (Again) they most probably will use their OEM hardware specifications.
Maybe Google this time, wants easy documentation and open source hardware since Android itself is Open-Source Software.
No, im not complaining , i understand u cant be the winner of two world, this is a superb phone with a beautiful 4.6 screen, only this come with its achilles heels, the battery, we just need to adapt to the situation..

I have read that, and yeah thanks for sharing.
Samsung is 1 of the Open Hardware members also.

But is the Enyxos 4210 isn't open source documentation. That's why Google Choose TI OMAP 4460 due to open-source documentation.
Enyxos 3110 indeed is open source documentation..?
true, being an open hardware member does not mean every device they produce needs to be fully documented. Android is going into the right direction with the Galaxy Nexus, I wonder how would the next Nexus be like. Gnex is a big update to the nexus line both software and hardware and the next nexus would have a big shoe to fill. perhaps we'll see a big jump in other aspect of android, ie android@home
hmm normally for gnex baterry life how much? standby mode and normal surfing mode
since the 1st day I got the phone, straight away flash to better 1. if not mistake, stock rom not doing good for battery life, so don't expect superb battery life. Now with custom rom+kernel or with tweak, I'm happy and satisfied.

My younger bro just got gnote. now I know the true reason why I get nexus. Hate ginger bread ui.
even S2 got ICS update, the TW UI on ICS look like GB TW, not much different but now, Samsung said ICS update on GNote delay coz samsung claimed want to add better features on ICS; so delay instead of together with S2.

before 4.0.4, longest stay with Apex ROM and it's Apex v5 kernel. now with gummy 4.0.4 based rom.
nah, i was just wondering if there's anyone using a 4.0.4 based rom and now i know you are. I haven't flashed yet. waiting for feedback first. how's it so far? did you mention it already? if you did i'll go read the previous thread or pages.
touch wiz is Samsung UI, just like HTC got Sense 2.0, Sense 3.0, Sense 3.5(worst coz too heavy with bloatware) and now HTC applied latest Sense 4.0 on HTC One series. back to light & fast UI, many ppl like it.

oic.. yes, mentioned before. nvm, it's ok. sometimes we did missed some post. already 2 days, so far so good. I felt even more smooth than before. Camera, GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth all working fine. I did not give a full review in previous thread, just ask here anything you want know. I can help to test for you, based on custom rom from 4.0.4.
If you want to know pure stock 4.0.4 experience, not sure anyone did that? (I guess stock is boring )

it would be nice if you could do a review la. simple short one. because we are all wondering how 4.0.4 will run in terms of smoothness and speed. you're using gummy?
yeah, stock would be no fun. smooth, fast but BORING.
edit: oh, yeah if you decide to do a review, ( ) put some screenshots too.

Currently, tested Stock Android 4.0.4 after 3 hours.
Pros: Smoothness, as swipe per transaction between one home-screen to another. App drawer isn't have micro-lags when draw in and out or it may have some but it's negligible. Swipe in app-drawer isn't having hiccups from Apps to Widgets.
Battery life should be improve a little because Android System isn't hogging that much as in 4.0.3 Stock.
Snappiness is there, Whole UI is noticeably smoother than before.
As in stock swipe ICS lock screen, now I can unlock from lock-screen to camera is faster than before. The camera from lockscreen loads up faster.
Rotation Animation is faster, not as lag badly on 4.0.3. Where you need wait a 1~1.5 sec then only rotates.
P.S I will continue test, until tomorrow for more details in Android 4.0.4... Rumours said Android 4.0.5 coming next month.

yeah saw that on the xda thread. waiting for build 30 too,. wow, micro-lags after spamming app drawing to home? thats some crazy testing weh..
Well it's negligible since no one gonna spam app drawer to home, or home to app drawer. But you have rooted your stock rom you may use terminal emulator to place launcher as 1st priority to reduce the micro-lags.

It seems Google has promise that among those changes we can expect faster screen rotation, better camera support and stability – as well as improved photos, and they’ve added more support for exchange in the email client. Right Now I just doing basic testing, later on going to some benchmarks... haha

with a mac, i cant flash anything now.... 2000 km away from my windows....
guys, to flash the 4.0.4 google stock image, ur phone needs to be stock (its OK if its unlocked/rooted). Any other files changed in the /system folder (custom ROM) , the flashing will fail

It's state on the rule of thumb that you must flash back stock 4.0.3 everything revert back then only you can apply stock upgrade.

Example, you upload your music to Google Play Music. The next synchronize will have your uploaded music, so if you want that music available offline then it will download the cache file.

Fastboot first [up+down+power] Assume you never plug in USB (It causes unable to select button via power or choose using volume rocker) up vol (up) down vol (down) power (OK) Select "Recovery" then [Power]
But I was unable to place any icons in the free row ; maybe the newer launcher versions has removed this restriction ?
you're right, both older version cannot do that but new version now already can do that. DarkSilver suggestion is the best and easiest alternative way that just open Play Store and download, instead of searching around and worry of mod.
previously it also can restore ur apps by login in ur gmail after u flash new roms.

Sorry for the late response.
If you have activated your Google Play Music (then Google Music) account online, when you run your app on your phone, you wikl be prompted to select an account to bind into your phone's Google Play Music. After a while (provided you are online), your uploaded albums will magically appear in your phone.
As to how to activate your account online, try to Google for he steps. 1 of the sure working steps is provided by redmondpie.com by using Tor browser.

i dont understand, i already download the pdanet but i cannot install the driver for my nexus? any idea?
[STEP 1]Install ADB with SDK -Make sure that the required drivers for your android device are properly installed on your PC.
How to install Galaxy Nexus Drivers? -Turn on your Galaxy Nexus -Plug in your Galaxy Nexus -Open your Galaxy Nexus Toolkit -Select your Galaxy Nexus Android Version -Select [1] and follow instructions
[STEP 2]After Install Galaxy Nexus Drivers Download and install the Android SDK (Software Development Kit) Starter package from here.
Among the two choices for windows there, you can install by any option. The two options are explained below. Choice is yours.
-An “android-sdk_rXX-windows.zip” file which you can extract to any place on your PC and the adb program will work from there. For easiness with commands, I’d recommend you to extract it to C:\ -An “installer_rXX-windows.exe” file which easily installs ADB on your PC like any other program.
However it downloads some Java stuff which is really not needed for working with adb, and it also takes a bit longer to install. If you want adb installed on your PC without any efforts of yours like extracting then go for .exe file to install adb. With the release of version 8 (Android 2.3) of the SDK, adb has been removed from the starter package.
[STEP 3]Setting ADB For adb to work on version 8 of the SDK Starter package we have to add Platform Tools part to the SDK. Below are the steps:
Open root directory of the SDK (for e.g. if you’ve installed or extracted it on:/ then go to this address “c:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows” Find “SDK Manager” and double-click on it to execute. It will check for updates on the Android website, and a pop up window will appear showing a list of available downloads. Just add the “Android SDK Platform Tools” and reject everything else
[STEP 4]Create a path Add Path variable to avoid long lines of commands every time you want to run adb. Below are the steps:
Right-click on “My Computer” and select “Properties”. Now under the “Advanced Tab” select “Enviroment Variables” Scroll and find the “Path” variable from the list. Double-click on it to edit it.
Now add the full path of the “tools” and “platform-tools” folders of the SDK to your path. For e.g. on my computer, I had it installed in — C Drive – Program Files – Android – android-sdk. So, I put this in the Path (don’t put any space on either side of the semi-colon mark (";") which separates the pat of ‘tools’ folder and ‘platform-tools’ folder) – “C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\tools;C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools”
[STEP 5]ADB Test On your Android device go to Settings->Applications->Development and make sure that “USB Debugging” is ticked. It’s essential for ADB to work!
Now plug your phone into your PC (using original cable that’s supplied by your manufacturer is recommended when working with ADB). If a window pops up saying “installing drivers” then wait for it to complete installation.

Note isn't DEV phone is more like commercial phone... Thus, less people develop for it
Nexus is originally a developer phone since G1 so... many developers love to mess with them.
hwo come i root so fast? is about 1sec then the toolkit say finished..is it proper rooted?
We are very lucky that we have Dev who is and making it so easy to root our gnex. ESP the tool kit If for other Samsung phones, getting the right drivers already eat up your time

OMG, Android limit the support on older hardware like Cortext-A8 & A9 device, meant force to get A15 device if you want to taste Jelly Bean as earliest adopter? the source claims that the Galaxy Nexus will probably be the slowest device to get Jelly Bean. might make sense too if google want to push nexus tablet on 1st launch....

ekk, no. Malaysia probably wont be in the list of supported countries for Google Navigation (unless Brut), I meant only that I am residing on a land where Google Navigation is supported.

if the source are true, meant the google first ever nexus tablet possible Cortex-A15 SoC are: 1. Texas Instruments OMAP5 2. Samsung Exynos 5250 3. ST Ericsson NovaThor A9600 4. anymore?

So nvidia SoC are less possible. hopefully Google appointed Samsung for tablet, else OMAP5 also good. But rumors said HTC & Samsung not willing to cut down the price to US$199 or below, but ASUS....

hell no. the galaxy nexus is a bad example enough. Doesnt mean Samsung gets appointed, they gonna use their exynos.
I fully support Asus getting the deal. Anyway, I do believe there are tons of articles that said asus got the deal
Guys, after reading several threads in XDA and some professional reviews... I found that the Beats Audio is unnecessary, unless, you don't want to or lazy to play with "personal equalizer settings". Beats Audio is only like a good preset equalizer build-in into your phone only. Nothing more, nothing less. LOL.

Enxyos is half open half close source of hardware, Google choose TI OMAP because it's fully open source hardware. If not Galaxy Nexus would be base on Enyxos just like Nexus S. Lets face it, if that hardware documentations are not open source... how developers gonna integrate with hardware and software blend together in-order to get the best experience for next android version.
Hell no, Qualcomm is like Celeron of ARM... the S4 might bring the hype but the other powerful ARM SoC is coming soon.

What about Huawei? Samsung... already make us look bad with all sorts of yakju's... ASUS might be solid choice, since they might not using Tegra 3, at least use S4... if base on that statement.
anyone here still on stock 4.0.2? was wondering if you could tell me what the default Baseband version of your phone is.
I've flashed the new radio when manually updating to 4.0.4. Was told that the "i9250xxla02" radio is meant for EU sets only?
I've not had any issues except that it didn't automatically recognise my Celcom line. A quick removal and reinsert of the SIM fixed this. The line quality and data speed is about the same as before.
It's probably nothing but I'm just feeling all OCD about this LOL
zulhizainL902S- i can see tat there would be a crazy NFC session going to be held everyday in ur house ask ur parents get lar. whole family nexus user!!!

since Beat Audio available for flash, I din give a try since day 1 until now as is just a branded software of equalizer.
Either way, my opinions would be sticking away from a nexus tablet by samsung, im not risking my updates to be handled by samsung again.
LOL, only non-yakju set handled by samsung. but again, who care this? non-yakju just simply flash any better custom rom. even yakju user also don't wait for official update direct from Google

either OMAP5 or S4, I'm happy. no tegra will be great but many ASUS product using tegra
gotta say (gaming apart, not much of a gamer), this phone is really as good as it gets right now.
Anything more powerful is sort of like getting a Golf R instead of a GTi, the latter is powerful enough for everyday use but the former has the extra kick when you need it. Pricing aside of course, as the One X is priced similar to the Nexus at launch.

I just read few page back that GNex might be slow of getting JB. Is it true or just troll? Main reason is to get latest update from google. Thinking to buy this phone but still confuse whether to choose this or htc one x as the rrp is same. Someone please enlighten me. Thanks!

the rumor is posted on April 1st. Although there is a chance that it might be a legit rumor, but chances are its a joke.

If the idea of having to pay for the same price bothers you, just get AP set, that's what I did.
HTC One sure is gonna be great, the idea of having Sense on top of ICS really bothers me. Used Hero prior of this and not to mention that certain design of Sense sucks.
Any idea where to download GPS Fix for liquid ROM, I'm tempt to try them since they have stated being stable.
can vouch for that. tested AOKP. CM9, to name a few ROMs but so far satisfied with Liquid. Its stable as it is smooth. but try different kernels though, the stock is not bad but prefer franco nighties.

Not Android System Problem, it's Kairosoft. They not coded properly, because they just port the game from iOS so you will have data crashes no matter what are you doing. But best part is, kairosoft have enable auto save if you crash, off app without save.

You using stock rom right? Normally, those mod files require deodex rom... Circle_Mod is available on odex ROM and Deodex ROM.
So you can just flash it right away. Of course, you need unlock bootloader!

Odex and Deodex. Usually, Custom ROMs are deoxeded because it doesn't want to screw up anything later since we're doing a lot of modifications. Odex ROMs are usually harder to customization because it has different file alignments compared to Deodexed ROMs. But, they're much faster due to this.
Yet, recent research show that Deodex have no performance loss against Odex. The 1st boot, Deodex will be slower than Odexed. But, after another reboot. They'll be the same. No point to ODEX.

android is not the kind of multi task you found on desktop. the application need to handle it properly. in this case it isn't.
until now i found that the most multi task phone is still the n900. you can open every damn thing and they all remain there until u close it or cause it to crash because it runs out of ram, and the application doesn't' even need to care how to handle it. not to say its good or bad.. it's just the perception of multi task is much more solid here.

Get an external USB charger, around 2000mAh. Should be able to last you a whole day then.

We have HD Screen... That's causes the battery drain. Get a YooBao Power Pack which is portable and external battery 2000 mAh Update to latest version 4.0.4, it improves the battery life as well. Do some settings, to preserve battery life.

It's recommended to update... Why? It fixed: a.) Speaker Volume(which is extremely LOW on 4.0.1) b.) Performance boost/Overall smoothness(4.0.1-4.0.3 have minor lagging) c.) Camera improvement(slightly) d.) Multi-touch fix e.) Faster booting time. f.) Better battery life. g.) Stronger signals.

yes...that mean your Gnex is unlocked......like i said before go to first page....after that try and surf youtube....there got a lot of tutorial about toolkit
u can always revert back to stock n lock it back too whenever u goin to warranty
*except for case where u cant boot your phone anymore
Yea, you can revert back to stock
if can't boot then can directly send to service centre...they also can't find out you're rooted. But in same cases, they don't really care if its hardware problem.
Basically once you root the phone, you already void the warranty. So does modding the phone from outside, change screen, change hardware etc etc.
Screen crack and soak in water means you can't claim the warranty only, not void cause its user problem but manufacturer problem.
QUOTE(sordanny @ Apr 3 2012, 03:25 PM)
Theoretically, installing custom rom will void your warranty but in reality the service center don't care
what WILL void your warranty is cracking open your phone hardware
water damage and screen damage doesn't void warranty, just not covered under warranty

But after updating to 4.0.4, it seems that the images on the left of the sms notification in the status bar shows the icon of the app in grayish colour instead even though the photo in my contacts are still there. Is it because of the update? Or am i missing something here?

I would advice you to have factory reset, after an update. Because sometimes, you might invite few unwanted bugs.

just for fun, don't you realised there is never a picture like this

on facebook that says "Free Galaxy NEXUS Giveaways"
deyyy note is overhyped and nexus is not the market target. Besides, if they want to attract people they should use some products that is heavily, HEAVILY advertised.
Hey guys, currently Im with AOKP M4. So in order to receive the OTA 4.0.4 update, I need to first lock my bootloader and the notification should come automatically? Or I need to re-flash back to stock ROM?

did that... still the same. still shows the message icon instead of the photo in the status bar. only for sms though, others like email and google talk are ok. that aint normal right? or is every1 getting the same thing as i am on 4.0.4?

why not just update with full wipe to AOKP build 29? its 4.0.4 already once you get use to the features of AOKP... you will really miss then when you go back to stock rom
my only update source is xda forums and here. lol. didnt even bother the official update except if i use non Nexus devices. i am confident the available custom ROMs has more features than stock. correct me if im wrong.

Vanila android n fast update as soon as it is available is 2 big selling point for Nexus, at least for me.
I agree with you, You can actually manually update yourself. Which is very easy, and straightforward. Images are available from Google Website.

Google Nexus is a developer phone, even it's not updated into latest OS (Nexus One) but those developers willing to give users a brand new experience to get the devices to the latest OS without the feeling of outdated.
Another words, Google Nexus phones are quite budget friendly for those who not willing change the phone often.
Developer phone, high chances will port into latest OS. More fun we have it, more happy we are using it. No regrets to having Google Nexus Phones. No matter stock or custom!

+1 to that. But hey, stock ROM is not bad either. used it for a week. but somehow fingers got itchy to root and flash. lol.

Well, you can use Odin and flash yakju in it. There pure google, without losing your precious warranty! Using Odin of course, flash the old yakju and wait for OTA... There BAM! 4.0.4... this method is for those who don't wish mess with bootloader!
I Know that the oldest, trick but it still works!!

U mean it will not wipe anything? Everything still intact n no need to unlock bootloader?

Nope it will wipe, since you are changing ROM's C'mon you will get yakju! Well, you can relock your bootloader, it's a developer phone you are holding! Tweaks and changes should be fine!

Oh ... regret i didnt do it the 1st day i got the phone. Yeah, i know i "lock" the potential of this beast by not tweaking it. Might consider to go ahead n flash it if no news from google/samsung for non-yakju. Thanks for the advice, now i already googling the way to do it.

Agree. Play with it. Its such a waste to have a dev phone sitting on stock setting. Its like buying Ferrari just to buy groceries 5km down the road without testing it on the tracks. Lol.

I think previously you have some kind of app that display contacts photo in the notification bar. I can assure you, stock ICS doesn't show contact photo on sms, only the SMS app icon.

Actually just by changing to yakju doesn't change the ROM. You will still remain intact with the stock ROM. Only thing is you get updates from Google directly instead of non-yakju which needs to get through Samsung first.
It's up to you whether want flash to yakju or not...we only can suggest and show.

Ya, have to agree with you that AOKP has been amazing ever since I flashed back in M3 build. Wonder when will M5 release comes out..

i have to slightly disagree..to me, its like driving a ferrari as it is, with no other modification and tweaking... diff is - how fast u can get to the groceries..
and of course, modded ferrari tend to push the engine to the limit, thus better performance. but there's also a possibility of frying the pistons or engine valves if the modification was not done properly .. when that happens, u'd prob see smoke coming from the rear as the engine dies and your modded ferrari slowly pull to the side of the road while the slower ferrari pass u by and beat you the grocery shop...
Just bring along your usb cable and go cyber cafe download~ it takes only 2 hours to set up. If you got nandroid backup... why not give a try LOLz!
lolz if cyber open late @night here.. i dunnwanna jepodise the paranoma pics of the land area~ but will give a try after all had ended on thurs.

Err, Currently because it's outdated binary file. So you just forget about it... it's useless now. Try Equalizer it's much better in having sound effects and increase bases.
btw, privilages of nexus android users are turn by turn navigation beta, and precahe maps, and overlay distance measurement. ^tats y i chose nexus as reasons, dad said, why no IP4s? itz good... i said.. not good enuf.

You should tell your dad like this:
Springfall Dad: Why no iP4S, son. Its good...
Springfall: I don't need a talking machine as a girl friend. I just want a normal smart-phone not a talking smartphone when give basic commands...

i agree.. more power, burn fuel faster... less power, u can go furhter before u need to refuel...
always the matter of personal prefs... either way, ur still driving a ferrari maa.. still can go buy groceries...

nope, u have to hold down a location, then a menu comes up, then select precahe map, then it saves 10 miles(dun underestimate that) and tada, u can review those maps in the precache menu. 10 precache are limited to 1 phone, but if u want more, u have to be a google developer. btw, 4 precache is only needed to cache KL-Klang, morib to sepang/KLIA i use 8 for whole sydney and north area, south area, and 2 for malaysia
@Gaia34, refer to 1 post above u (abundai) it depends on u really. the revie u read is based on 4.01, which tell the truth, suck. period. brandstar, it really depends wether u thrust them or not, many pple brought ardy.. if all got problem, we can have a massive rally at direct d shop
Mine also brandstar set I oso wnt to know Forumer about Brandstar reliability.

yup, u can select individual maps and delete. or delete all 1 shot, ur shot, ur choise. a tip from me , try to align the precache from boundary to boundary, and the stratigise where to start and end. it wouldnt take much for malaysia to be cover with boxes lol
i got mine from them... my advise, check it thoroughly... they allow next day return if u find sumtin is wrong with the unit they give u.. but pls confirm on this with the agent u deal with... i had a dead pixel on mine, very very small... then swap it with a good set the day after...
