My mistake for not being clear.
It was the Altis 1.8.
Both the Elantra 1.6 & 1.8 did not give me the same feeling as the Altis 1.8.

It is better to test drive the car at different showrooms to confirm. Sometimes you test a car but the car tuning is out then you will have a feeling of the car being lousy. Elantra cannot be the hottest car in USA for nothing. :-)

I think in US, the car has the eco button, where you can turn off the eco mode and changes the settings.

Seems like our version, eco mode is always on, and off it when you accelerates. I think the engine settings is different

i think the version here does not have an eco mode. The eco you see in the dashboard is just an indicator to tell you whether you're driving is 'eco-friendly' or not! just like what you see in the honda insight. The same applies to the Sonata YF as well. I could be wrong. Perhaps bro fluidic can confirm?

Perhaps this explain why in US elantra can get less than 10s from 0 to 100km??

I can confirm for you guys that there is no ECO button even in the US version of the Elantra, ECO is an indication if you are driving economically or not.

You'll get the power only if you decide not to drive "ECO" style. That's what I found out during my drive in the US. Overall, I like the car very much, just that its quite light to be susceptible to crosswinds drag, but you wont face that problem here in malaysia.

This is great for FC cuz if u see the ECO light on, you can be sure you're getting at least 32-ish mpg. I manage to average 38 mpg in US city drive (which translates to about 15km/l if not mistaken ) on R91 petrol.

And it takes quite a while for it to switch out of ECO, unless you floor it the moment u start your engine.

Otherwise just switch to manual gears. no problem with power there.

There seems to be more negative than positive feedback in this forum, I hope SD is listening.

Given how long it took them to react to the demand for the Elantra here, I doubt they are even listening to us sweat.gif

After both driven the Forte and Elantra, and the whole weekend to balance both thoughts, I have given up on the Elantra after a holistic consideration.
It is not that I cant afford to pay 112K, but the whole package of the car just doesnt justify the amount. To simply pay more just for the design is foolish.

Unless SD decided to lower down the price of the 1.8, plus throwing in goodies like full body kit, 6 air bags for safety which is more crucial.

I am sure all the awards given to the car is due to all the full spec features. Not the spec that we are getting here.
It is not everyday that Malaysians can buy car today and sell it tomorrow.

For SD to listen to the people? Best platform may be on Facebook.

Again my 2 cents.

Oh, definitely will try and get a test drive soon. But to be honest, the interior of both cars seems a little letdown compared to the pics I've seen on the net. Trim levels do play a big role... Or maybe it's the professional photographers' lighting lol...
*
hi gregy, with your experience on the Civic 1.8 and Forte 2.0 i think your inputs will definitely be of good use. please test drive the car and let us know your thoughts smile.gif

The Elantra you drove should be a 2011 model year so don't have Active Eco. They added the function starting from 2012 model year.
