I think I'm gonna make an order for the clear one tomorrow morning.
Regret not ordering one together during my RPi order.

Been using my Lego one but it's not perfect fit and when re-inserting the SD card or USB ports the RPi board may shift about 1 mm. Tolerable but I think I've got OCD when it comes to this... rolleyes.gif

You mean the low-profile microSD adapter from RPi? Not microUSB right or I think I misunderstood you. sweat.gif
Yea, I've to admit the SD card's butt jutting out from the RPi board is kinda irritating!
Need to get this:

Anyone here experience the occasional half-second/one-second freeze (buffer) when streaming FHD 1080p/HD 720p MKV files to their RPi? This doesn't happen when streaming SD 480p AVI files to the RPi.

I am running on RaspBMC, streaming via ethernet cable from my router to RPi. The ext. HDD is connected to the router via USB. The streaming method used by the router is via SMB.

Am currently downloading the OpenElec distro now, will see how it goes. I hope it's RPi related and not the router.
My WD TV Live HD is able to stream the exact same video files without any hiccups/lags/freeze/stutter...

I got some from a few places. one is from ModMyPi which had just arrived yesterday, and another from ebay china seller. a bit pricey for such a simple device, but I think if you're good at soldering you can get the parts from element14.

I experience that too. it seems to be better once it's updated to 12 Frodo beta 2, but I think it's more due to the fact that

1. it supports only 100mb ethernet, not gigabit ethernet
2. the 1080p source has a high-enough bitrate that your network doesn't support/not able to stream in enough time, hence the buffering.

Yea, quite expensive for a little piece of plastic like that. If only element14 ships it in...
And I prefer not to ship stuff from overseas as the local (MY) customs is sh*t. One minute decide to tax but one minute decide not to tax. doh.gif

I've been on OpenElec and so far so good! Turns out it's not the router but the XBMC distro itself.
Able to stream FHD 1080p/HD 720p MKVs with DTS/Dolby Digital Audio without freezes/stutters/lag.

I'm actually still looking for a WiFi N300 USB Adapter to work with my RPi, preferable one that's dual-band but to no avail. I found the ASUS N-10 (150Mbps) and the ASUS N-13 (300Mbps) to work with the RPi according to forums. However, they're both not dual-band.

Any idea mate, are you streaming from your network to your RPi via a wired or wireless connection? Lemme know please, thanks! thumbup.gif

What got taxed? smile.gif

Finally got my HDMI>DVI cable (one month two day wait) and Kingston 8GB C10 micro SD and got Raspbmc installed.

What's the normal CPU load for Raspbmc?
I'm getting high 90s while not playing anything.
A 2GB 720P MKV video plays smooth but image tears (I think that's the term) for a few seconds when fast forward or rewind.
Is that normal?

My Dad shipped water distillers from Guangzhou, China to KL.
During certain shipments they were detained by custom to pay import taxes.
But this wasn't always the case, there were some shipments that didn't get detained.
So yea, you can see the irregularity in terms of taxing. One minute tax, one minute don't tax. doh.gif

The CPU load that you're viewing is in System Information via System isn't accurate.
This is because the CPU itself is under a high load just to draw the graph out, highly ironic.
Read this:
CODE
Q: Raspbmc has high CPU usage doing nothing? Why?

A: The reason for this lies in the fact that Raspbmc is doing something. Odds are you have reached this deduction via System > System Info and monitoring the CPU progress bar. This bar must be constantly redrawn as it is changing constantly. This is ironically, what is driving up the CPU usage. For a more fair view of idle cpu usage, you could run the top command via SSH while on the menu screen. Typical CPU usage for this should not exceed 20%, as Dirty Region Rendering is being used.

Yes, when watching FHD 1080p/HD 720p MKVs, the image will tear when fast forwarded or rewinded for the first few seconds. Switching XBMC distros didn't help either. May I know whether are you streaming locally from USB HDD or via network? I recommend OpenElec if you want something snappier. However, disabling RSS feeds and switching your video output resolution to 1280X720p does help smoothen the GUI.

I believe the "irregularities" are mostly due to the way they randomly select and choose packages that arrive. i've yet to have an electronic package detained, although i've heard stories about this.

I do wired and wireless as well. both are working as expected. as long as you don't stream HD clips that are high in bitrate (like, 5GB size 720p movie), your network should be able to handle it, wired or wireless.

i think i have a couple of usb dual-band wifi adapters somewhere, but i don't think there are any that can run as low-powered as something like the insanely small prolink or asus n10 (like, 1-5mA of power shocking.gif )

Hardly a competitor for the Pi.
Apart from it's cost it doesn't have a composite output thus denying it's use as an educational tool in poorer countries who can't afford an LCD TV (which is the reason the Pi has one)

Definitely have to agree that price factor makes Raspberry Pi a winner of all. Just thought maybe the processing power could solve some of the HD playing issues

Yup, agreed with C-Fu. I've ordered many things from overseas and I can see the pattern. Most small packages will pass the customs untouched. Bigger items, they'll check the value declared and they'll see if the value is more than RM400, they'll detain the items and make you do the clearance and they'll see if the items are taxable. I've many things shipped via couriers like DHL, FEDEX or UPS went through customs without problem even when it was bulky items. They way they do it as C-Fu said, randomly select..

It's because of these "irregularities" that I'm totally put off from shipping overseas electronic products to MY.

Problem is all my FHD 1080p MKVs are >8GB. And, HD 720p MKVs are >6GB. Fingers crossed that newer/latest XBMC distros fix these problems. Do note they only occur when streaming from USB attached to my router via ethernet cable.

If you don't mind, could you test which one of your dual-band USB WiFi adapters work with your RPi? Especially OpenElec! Would really appreciate it mate, I actually don't mind purchasing the powered USB Hub just for the USB WiFi adapter to work. thumbup.gif If that's not possible, I'll just settle for the ASUS USB-N10. biggrin.gif

I'm not sure regarding powered USB Hub with 7-ports that are available at LYP as I'm still currently looking for one.
But if you'd like a USB WiFi Adapter that's compatible with the RPi, I'll recommend the ASUS USB-N10 or you may pick one from this list of verified peripherals that work with the RPi here:
