Hardly a competitor for the Pi.
Apart from it's cost it doesn't have a composite output thus denying it's use as an educational tool in poorer countries who can't afford an LCD TV (which is the reason the Pi has one)

Definitely have to agree that price factor makes Raspberry Pi a winner of all. Just thought maybe the processing power could solve some of the HD playing issues

Yes the long awaited upgrade to the 3B+ is here at last. Unfortunately the 4GB version is not available locally yet. I'm queueing for one too.
*
Do you mean you have pre-ordered one? If yes, may I know where can I pre-order one too?

TQ

Submitted my pre-order just now.

1 x Pi 4
1 x USB-C Adapter
1 x HDMI Cable

It's better to get the original charger.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/07/ras...-some-chargers/

QUOTE
As detailed by Tyler Ward, the Raspberry Pi 4 has a non-compliant USB-C charging port and doesn't work with as many chargers as it should. Thanks to the open nature of Raspberry Pi (even the schematics are online!), Ward was able to discover that Raspberry Pi just didn't design its USB-C port correctly. Two "CC" pins on a USB-C port are supposed to each get their own 5.1K ohms resistor, but Raspberry Pi came up with its own circuit design that allows them to share a single resistor. This is not a compliant design and breaks compatibility with some of the more powerful USB-C chargers out there.
Whether your USB-C charger works with the Pi 4 has to do with whether it uses an "e-marked" cable. E-marked cables are fully featured USB-C cables with chips inside that negotiate power management, accessory modes, data rates, and other communication specs. Since the Pi 4 USB-C port is wired incorrectly, these smart cables will detect the Pi 4 as an "Audio Adaptor Accessory" and refuse to charge them. Usually, e-marked cables are more expensive and come with larger, higher-powered items, like a USB-C laptop.

What about casing and heat sink ? I saw the HDMI cable out of stock.
Would better to wait for all stock available or get at shope and laz .

I ordered 2 x (Pi4+Cable+Adapter). It's a little expensive and hopefully I'll make full use of it.

For case, we don't really have "much selections" due to the heat issue.... I have ordered the following "case" from taobao:

Has anyone called Cytron to ask when are they expecting to receive Pi 4B? It's about 8 - 9 days to go... hopefully they are on-time.

RM334 just for the SBC? Kind of expensive to me.

I was referring to 1 set (Pi4 + Cable + Adapter). Didn't want to take the risk to have 3rd party adapter/cable. Hoping for a smooth start once the hardware arrives. thumbsup.gif

"Ship before 31st July 2019"... I thought it's really "before" i.e. 1 week or 5 days etc... but looks like it's on 31st July biggrin.gif

From what I have read online and on youtube, we are gonna need serious heat sinks and fans to cool the CPU. So I would advise getting a casing yet till we get the cooler kits.
It runs pretty hot reaching 82 C in 11 minutes.

For those with old RPi2 or 3 lying around, go ahead and install PiVPN and Pi-Hole on it. I just installed Pi-Hole yesterday and was amazed at how much traffic was going out of my home devices and how much traffic had been blocked. It also speeds up your network due to the unclogging.
*
I'm stuck with IPv6 issue on PI Hole due to DHCP-PD w/ dynamic IPv6 address.

Not sure how can I set it correctly so pi-hole actually block ads on IPv6

--------

Actually I'm still not quite convinced about Cytron not aware about the quantity of the shipment. Reason because my 1st order was done within the first 30 minutes when pre-order open.

That time there's still plenty of stocks... I guess they just want to absorb as many pre-orders as possible

1st Pi4 received at home... I'm waiting for 2nd unit which supposed to be delivered to office by today as well...

Update, received both Pi4 but alittle disappointed as I'm not sure what happened but the plug I ordered was EU plug instead of UK plug.

I thought it's UK when I added to the cart... Hmmmm

I ve tried running Raspbian, Gentoo and Manjaro on the RPi4. So far Manjaro performs best overall in terms ease of use and configuration.

Currently 1 of my Pi sitting idle 24/7 at office as I'm not sure what to do with it. 2nd Pi4 running Pi-Hole at home and I'm planning to re-install once Ubuntu MATE is supported/stable.

New contender from HardKernel:

https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-c4/

QUOTE
ODROID-C4 is a new generation single board computer that is more energy efficient and faster performing than ODROID-C2 which was introduced over four years ago as the world’s first affordable ARM 64bit computer.

The main CPU of the ODROID-C4 is built with a quad-core Cortex-A55 cluster with a new generation Mali-G31 GPU. The A55 cores run at 2.0Ghz without thermal throttling using the stock heat sink allowing a robust and quiet computer. The CPU multi-core performance is around 40% faster, and the system DRAM performance is 50% faster than the ODROID-C2.

iinm videos are still not hardware accelerated, hence the stutter in youtube and kodi. I also own the pi b+ and pi 4 2gb, most of the time i use it headless for running torrents, small file server, pi hole and etc, so far i'm quite satisfy with it
*
That's the reason I won't jump to 8GB until they have the issues fixed... Using them as mini server instead of media player for now...
thankyou
