I think R-Pi is out of stock since no respond from Element14. And thinking to buy this:
http://my.element14.com/samsung/raspberry-...-4gb/dp/2113756
It's Debian pre-installed right? But quite pricey?
Kingston SD? Thanks mate. Will survey later. How much you buy and where did you order this thing? I mean R-Pi...
Just get a standard sd card will do. download debian/ubuntu/ xbmc live (with ubuntu) and put it in the sd card.. easy to do. anything faster than class 4 sd card is good for a faster speed, but not necessary.

QUOTE
Update: Since like something wrong with my e-mail when I check just now shakehead.gif . R-Pi do have stock, but need to wait 3 weeks. And +RM20 for delivery charges. Hmmm... hmm.gif Going to buy or not huh... I wonder how much is the total cost? R-Pi, SD card, power adapter, adapeter powered USB hub, and USB wifi (this one can delay). And suddenly thinking of can RasXBMC work offline? I mean the codec etc? Need to install online like other Linux distro?
*
i wanna get one as well, but i don't want to pay first for an "out of stock" thing that i don't know when will it arrive.

raspi+xbmc live = all in one already. then up to you whether you want to serve your media from a usb drive, or usb wifi. xbmc is more than just a media player. it's a media organizer. offline works, but then it won't be able to fetch info of the movie from imdb and thetvdb to categorize/label your videos, movies, musics.

This answer most of my question... Hehe...
http://mymediaexperience.com/raspberry-pi-xbmc-with-raspbmc/

BTW, without mpeg-2 and vc-1, I still can watch video right? Most of my video is avi, mp4, mkv, rmvb...  Correct me if I'm wrong? And what is the use of above codec?
*
mpeg2 and vc1 is used in dvds and bluray. there's no bluray support for RasPi yet, so unless you wanna connect a dvd player into it, you should be set.

as for DVD iso i have no idea.99% of my videos are all HD or above DVD quality. if it's dvd quality then it's mp4. and all of my media works in xbmc windows, so i believe it will work for RasPi XBMC as well.

just note that XBMC RasPi isn't 100% supported yet. some things like DTS and like you mentioned VC-1 need a workaround.

unless you're planning on playing isos of dvd and bluray, i don't see the need for you to get the licenses. but then again, it's cheap about RM20 only. My suggestion is get it when you need it.

BTW, it's still listed as Out Of Stock at E14

So do I just order+pay them now or wait till it states in stock?

I ordered at 6pm yesterday, received after lunch today shocking.gif caught me totally off-guard. Somemore I thought I was ordering one, but I received two!! (Didn't mind the cost, so that's why I didn't check during order)

Shipped using GDex.

Can't wait to hack this thing to pieces! biggrin.gif

hey are there any RF modules/boards/parts for RPi that we can use to get our radio stations? and what does it called?

My setup:

Network: RPi -> Gigabit LAN cable -> 500Mbps Homeplug -> downstairs' Homeplug -> Gigabit LAN cable -> ASUS N66U Wifi Router -> UniFi

Power: Old blackberry charger

Video: Yellow component/RCA cable

network speed seems slow, but not really sure.

video to TV is zoomed/clipped at the sides, which is expected when viewing on an analog/old tv display. expected, but annoying. no setting in raspbmc to "zoom out" the UI/video a bit.

keyboard:

(ignore the korean keys on the image)

I think this is the best kind of keyboard+mouse for RPi+XBMC, imo. In lowyat for RM120.

Yea, I missed it. I'll settle for the MK802+ for now. Or maybe the MK808 and then get the RPI and it's re-stocked. Thanks mate! icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Don't get MK808. There are some major flaws to that.

I'll be compiling info on the just-launched MK809 on my guide thread, which should be a lot better than MK809, for starters, it uses AmLogic instead of Rockchip's implementation of Cortex A9. From the MK802 times lagi AmLogic seems to support the community by releasing their bootloader/source, which is why development for Linux and other OSes for MK802 is far stronger and faster than MK808.

This is just awesome. Ever since young I've dreamt of having a PC in the size of my palm. And after an hour of hacking my name card box, it's actually practical man! laugh.gif

btw, I've just tested RPi+18000mAh portable charger (I really don't think it's 18k mAh, too small to be that doh.gif ) + usb logitech unifying keyboard+mouse K400 + 64GB SanDisk SD Card and it works! And everything can fit into the Lumia 900 box! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Tomorrow need to get a small USB wifi that doesn't need a powered usb hub, and I'm all set!

Btw, should add some info regarding the MK 802 II and MK 802 III just so readers can further distinguish.

Get a converter cable .. BTW, bought HDMI to VGA off ebay, took a month for delivery, seems to work okay on my VGA monitor. BTW, there are some in lelong, HDMI -> DVI for around RM30 inclusive shipping, it might work.

Any pic of the HDMI-VGA adapter?

This is going to be MASSIVE!

also I've been using BerryBoot, so awesome thumbup.gif
http://www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/berryboot

This is the way to go, IMO. One big SD Card, multiple OS, multiple functions. But I do have a problem though, since I don't have a linux box on my pc. how/where do I get makesquashfs and kpartx? possible on RPi?

oh, no worries. i just type
sudo apt-get install kpartx

and

sudo apt-get install squashfs-tools

my steps for a multiOS RPi.

1. get berryboot. put of SD Card, install whatever OS you want from there.
2. boot from any OS (say, debian). then on terminal type sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade.
3. then type sudo apt-get install kpartx and sudo apt-get install squashfs-tools
3. get any .img OS image that you want (obviously one that isn't inside the berryboot list). put it in USB thumbdrive.
4. in RPi, insert the USB thumbdrive. should show up in /media/YOURUSBDISKLABEL.
5. type sudo kpartx -av /media/YOURUSBDISK/therpiosimage.img. it should say add map something, take note of the loop1p1 there
6. type sudo mount /dev/mapper/loop1p2 /mnt
7. type sudo mksquashfs /mnt /media/YOURUSBDISK/thepiosimageinsquash.squash -comp lzo -e lin/modules
then

$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo kpartx -d image_you_want_to_convert.img

then reboot to berryboot, and in berryboot menu just hold the add os button, and select OS from your USB.

done!

hahaha, not even pro also la. my last time tinkering around linux was like... 10-15 years ago? even then also was very very basic, just to pass through college onli tongue.gif

what those thing does is to get whatever RPi image that you have, convert it to squashfs compatible format, so you can use berryboot to install additional OS to your RPi, effectively making something like one-OS-for-one-function kinda thing biggrin.gif

oh and this video gives a very awesome introduction of what RPi can do...... very, very inspirational biggrin.gif

QUOTE(zimorok @ Nov 26 2012, 01:24 PM)
hello guys,

a quick question here, if i keep RPi on for 24/7, will it overheat?
*
Mine's been on for several days now since I got it. It runs at temperatures of around 53C on load, which is perfectly fine. panas sikit sikit je.

of course, you can always get a heatsink for it. element14 currently is having a free freight sale (put Free Freight on your order under Special Instructions>Other). One's that I bought that are a bit smaller than the 3 chips on the RPi are
http://my.element14.com/jsp/search/product...jsp?SKU=4302333 (for 8.5x8.5mm chip)
http://my.element14.com/jsp/search/product...jsp?SKU=1850041 (for 12x12mm chip)
http://my.element14.com/jsp/search/product...jsp?SKU=4302163 (for 5.5x6.5mm chip)

and I got this one

http://my.element14.com/jsp/search/product...jsp?SKU=1776412

just to glue everything together. or you can just use any thermal paste that came with your motherboard/processor. I've even read some reports of people successfully using gam UHU (gam gajah).

bear in mind that unless you're overclocking it, there's really no need for it to be run cool. processors are designed to be run hot. 53C is not hot. the lifespan that you extend by making it run cool is very, very minimal.

53C is with the heat sink installed or without? my Rpi just arrived today, can't wait to go back to my home town and start toying around with it.

sorry to ask, but how do you use the bigger heatsink (100mmx100mm) with the Rpi?
*
without. some say you can get as low as 47C with 3 heatsinks.

as for bigger heatsink, i wouldn't recommend it. a lot of the parts on the board are as high as the chip, and unless you really know what you're doing, i don't think you should. but hey, try lah and tell us biggrin.gif

haha nope, i think the three heatsinks is good enough for me. all i have in mind is just to make the pi as a media player for an old flat screen. and maybe another one as a NAS in the future. love the fact that it is small, cheap and power efficient. can't wait to see what they'll come out with in the future models
*
ala if media player then no need heatsink la. stock standard pon ok. overclock a bit is better. but certainly no need heatsink.

speaking of RPi, the new one that I've just received is slightly different than the first two ones. I'll take a picture tomorrow.

seriously, the soldering and overall finesse is not as good as my 256MB ones.
*
I don't think it's their fault. they're just the distributor, and it's not an industry norm to actually notify you/us where are the components and revisions of the board are made from.
