depends on the level of service? as low as 20 for a tune up to a tad over 100 for a full tear down and rebuild... same goes for time.. from as quick as 10 mins to leaving your bike there for a day depending on how busy the shop is....

if the bike is bought from the shop... usually they won't try to charge you for it... at least within the first year or so...

Added on July 4, 2012, 4:38 pm

not to say that it cannot be done... would be a pain to do it.... and most probably won't cost cheap...

unless it is a true classic...

first year no charge? your bike must be bloody expensive until it's can cover the service charge.

sad that my Giant bike dont have these kind of privilages...

my bike shop normal service charge is RM30 which include bike wash and fine tune plus lubricant too. A simple service. oh yeah, its uses Morgan blue to lubricant my chain and morgan blue detergent too! rclxms.gif

I remember, when i bring my old bike come to KL from hometown, my ex-colleague recommended Edwin shop for some repair / restore... so i went met him showing my bike to him. He never checks and just glance through, then said it's going to cost a bomb, if not a new bike to restore the bike. think twice before you want proceed. it's not recommended paying such price.

Disappointed... so after that took my bike to Tmn Melawati, told them, pls fix my bike. it's not restore, but some minor repair, include changing front wheel forks, new brake cables and it's rideable! All these less than RM120.

While recently, tangan gatal again, keep thinking of want to restore my old bike cantik cantik, so i sent to ABC bike shop at Kepong. the uncle says, i can help you strip off everything from your bike and send the frame for spraying at the back of car spray workshop, but the paint quality is not guarantee...

since he let me aware of what's might happen, so did not send my bike for spraying... just a normal service from him.

wat la... you think i rich like miaopurr can afford to give his bottom bracket bearings a massage meh...

just general tune up la.. pretend to pull and adjust the cable a bit.. spray some lube here and there.. pretend to adjust and tighten whatever you feel loose... straighten the wheel out and shit... no charge la..

my bike definitely cost no more than RM6k without the wheels and pedals...i lie to you not.. it's a part of the service of buying a bike from the shop wat... no matter which shop... they can't charge you jack shit unless it involves swapping out stuff... or you want to bring them stuff not from the shop and ask them to install for you...

restoring old bikes to aesthetically show bike level are nuts la... unless you want to open showroom la.. else, just give up and forget it... i tried spraying my stem once.. regret like shit when the darn thing started chipping... and i bought those RM30 per can aerosol spray that can tahan heat oi...

fix it to rideable condition and dun complain banyak banyak... would be cheap la.. just look for those old style un-air conditioned shops with uncles still in them... should not chop you like how you chop up those RM8.90 black pepper chicken chops in food court..but again, dun complain about things la.. cheap thing no nice nice and no fancy fancy, K...

you hand at BTS rite? now i know your bike shop... the mechanic, can't really remember his name is quite a good fella... used to work at TBFS in sungai way... didn't know he defected to BTS until i found BTS due to looking for rotor cranks...

then i suggest, you go to a bike shop... tell them frankly what you want to do...

see if they are willing to help you strip out all the parts... maybe leaving the parts in the shop while you take your frame back and spend your own sweet time respraying it... and later go back to them to re-assemble and get a new saddle and tire...

this way, you don't spend on the 2 things first in case your spraying project fails miserably...

I brought my bike to Jami to service.. pretty standard..

Readjust tension of gear chord, adjust gear (last gear aint engaging), adjust gear shifter position (finally it's closer to my hand), change handlebar tape (damaged when trying to adjust shifter position), cleaning chain and cassette.

RM50

after that bike fitting.. adjust the saddle height slightly higher.. (koyak my working trousers when trying to ride on the trainer = =" )..

The bike now feels like a new bike, very excited for this weekend now!

all that + plus changing a new roll of bar tape for RM50... that'd be a bargain since the bar tape would have been already close to 50 bucks...

trek has moved to pure concept stores worldwide as far as i know... if someone wants to carry the trek brand now... i understand it has to be a concept store method and you sell nothing but trek... maybe they can curi curi sell some small inventory of other stuff la.. but, kept out of sight...

like specialized...

goto www.letour.fr for more information on stage routes and profiles and also classification listings.

i chosen Cav as the stage winner and Tejay as the best placed BMC GC rider for stage 4 and he landed in a crash...maybe i jinxed him...

bad ass AND badass are two different things la butthead.

anyway....

An interesting exchange between Cancellara, Cav and journalist

The press conference on Tuesday was almost as interesting as the sprint finish to Tournai. Cancellara came into the pressroom to respond to questions and then Cavendish joined in. The last question to Cancellara perked ears.

Journalist: “Is your team or the others envious of Sky?”
Fabian Cancellara: “What’s so special? Their cars? The nice helmets? I don’t know, you have to tell me, I don’t know.”
J: “The level of detail. For example, how we see them warming down. You don’t see other teams doing that.”
FC: “Warming down?”
J: “Yes, cycling outside the bus.”
FC: “Ah, rollers (he pronounced it ‘Rulers’ – ed)!”
J: “Yeah, cooling down.”
FC: “No, I’m not jealous now. First, that’s most important, you have to do in what you believe and in what you think is best for you. They just do what’s best for them and I do what’s best for me. What I’m going to do now? I don’t know, maybe go swim, go on my rollers or I’ll go jumping around, I don’t know. Everyone has his best way. What matters in the Tour is recovery, recovery, recovery. We have a nice cook who does a great job. Every night we get high-level food. We have our soigneurs. I saw 10 teams in the Tour de Suisse doing rollers after the race, but you have to keep doing what you believe in. That’s important.”

Cavendish comes into the room.

MC: “Can I ask, who asked that last question?”
J: “Me”
MC: “You’re banned from asking questions to me. That’s mental! You’re banned from asking questions.”

nah JBS wangsa maju. the bike (50-ish cm frame) feels ligther then the CAAD 10. not sure what the ride is like. I am coming from a full no name steel frame down tube shifting (love, yes I am that ancient), and a full alloy frame (dun like).

One thing I didnt like was the proprietary seatpost and the stick insect ball mashing Fizik seat.

Dont mind sharing the price you got it at ?.
