Hi All,
I am looking for a good MTB in the range of RM3k or below if possible (might be able to stretch to 3.5k). I was initially under the impression that the bikes were cheaper but when I went around surveying the prices caught me off guard!
I'll be using this bike to go to work (the office is about 10 mins away; up hill and straight roads), for easy/medium difficulty trails with friends and also for long distance rides around Putrajaya or cities.
Any suggestions on the bikes and where I can get them at cheaper prices?

you want it cheaper, be prepared to wait and buy the components slowly
I bought everything separately. Took me nearly 2 years. What can I say I can be patient. 25 something lb hardtail for under 2k. I was lucky because I scored a brand new rock Show Fork 140mm for 3 figures from a nice rich kid, I remembered they ysed to cost about 1500 new from the shops.
It hit the current cost because I 'upgraded' to Mavic Crossride.
The Spec.
-Scott DJ frame (xtinct edition)
-Bars and stem from the original frame ( have to upgrade since the bars too short and the stem you can use it to rebuild a bridge)
-Sram X-7 9 speed new.
-Bengal brakes new (going to upgrade the disc to 200mm in front and 180mm at the back soon)
-Ciplak seat (waiting for a good deal to come up Gobi XM is favored)
-Tyre's ciplak roadies with Maxxis Detonators as backup. MTB tyre are the ones that came on the old Scott frame.
Love the bike accept for the seat and bar. Again I would say I am damn lucky with the forks since I beat several bus loads of scalpers.
Did you ask for a discount when looking for a bike ? A lot of shop owners are too self absorbed to provide good customer service, so good luck to you if you are going to buy from a shop.
Someone was looking to try out a 56cm frame....I have a Trek 1000 (1992). PM me if you are still interested. Its not a racer.
