oi..i avoid watching any video where cyclists hit by a car..scary mah..haha...

hey anybody tried KKB-Fraser Hill before? I recce at bikemap.net and seems like it is only 40km..how's the traffic like? I understand that for odd hours the traffic will accend up to Fraser and even hours traffic will decend downhill..

So there is a possibility that when I'm climbing up, there will be cars going downhill am I right?

i heard fraser is now full time open from gap as there is now dedicated road going up and down...

i've tried before once from home before they opened the new road... too far out (for the fact that i went past ulu yam rather than the flatter rawang route) and totally killed myself trying to reach the climb to gap in time for the gate opening window...

the climb to gap is quite manageable... almost sempah like but without as much shade... i think the part from gap to fraser might be tougher although i have never ridden up it before...

i think gap is a 25km climb if i am not wrong... best of all, there is this famous kaya and kaya puff in KKB which you can stuff your face with after a climb... i was too whacked the last time i went to even give a crap about it and rode straight home...

overall, a nice place if you have half a day to spend... breakfast, ride up to fraser... sit around chill.. have some early lunch... descend.. have lunch again (hainanese lunch)... tarpao some kaya and go home...

The main killer is in how much you need to spray to clean it all up. he did say that it doesn't make it completely clean, but just clean enough.

I'll just remove my chain and cassette, dump them into a small bucket and spray degreaser in, shake the bucket around, followed up with a rinse with dish detergent, then finally water. works very well. 1 can of degreaser (probably costs more than RP7) can last me quite a while that way smile.gif

Owh reading about that makes me smile..25km climb eh? then the descending part gonna be long and awesome. Couldn't wait to try it out myself..hopefully it is still cold up there biggrin.gif btw you must be damn tough to cycle all the way to the top from your house..that was quite a journey!

taking the chain apart doesn't really sound like easy work to me...

very simple actually if you've got one of those quick release links that you can take out without any tools needed

Uptown to KKB is about 60KM plus...
KKB to Gap 25KM plus
Gap to Fraser hill top - 8km.

ya, there's dedicated 1 way road up and down. but going down road condition is not that good...

I was suppose to Bentong with group, but i too eager and naive went up Fraser top, then read wrong SMS content, rode back alone to KKB - Rawang - Templer hills - Duke and back at Uptown.. with total 211KM.

i know, SRAM chains is as easy as having needle nose pliers on the power links and just using pedal forces to snap them back in...

but having to remove the chain once too many times is just going to kill the chain faster than a poorly lubricated one...

i opt to take the harder route of cleaning it on the bike...just make sure you degrease, soap, rinse and dry and repeat if you feel like it is not enough...

you can buy stuff like this chain keeper thing and dismount your wheel and still wash the chain with back pedal strokes...
http://www.birzman.com/lan_en/birzman_prod...n=125&class_sn=

there are many other available ones.. but i just got lazy and got the above which is kinda pricy for me... but rather than spending time to look for crap...

having a old QR also will do the job... but with a sprocket in place, it keep the chain in line for easier washing...

there is no best degreaser and lube... just try several brands until you find one that you like best... there is basically 2 types of lube wet and dry... if you ride in the rain and wet conditions a lot... wet is the way to go... if you ride in hot, dry and dusty climate like most of us do... dry would be more preferable...

then it boils down to whether you want the usual oil base, wax or teflon lubes... each has their own benefits and of course... at the end of the day... the biggest factor that rules em all... price...

I used to clean my drivetrain with WD40, by hand, with the chain on the bike, wipe clean every single link, use a rug to clean the casette, the derailleur pulleys... then use Singer oil as lube, applied one drop on every link... simple. & I was riding like... 300-500km a week... rain or shine...

the headset grinding sound seems to reduced after letting it dried for 1 whole day... now putting the whole bike under hot sun...

btw how to we clean the cogset? i used wd-40 to clean the chain (while chain on the bike), but i am not sure if wd-40 can be sprayed directly onto the rear sprocket..

Saw taiwanese forum modified a wire cloth hanger with a piece of cloth and use to clean in between the sprocket....

a little bit of elbow grease goes a long way...

but singer oil is very notorious for getting dirt stuck to it very fast especially in the wet...

there is those cassette brushes you can buy... they are very thin and can slot in between the cogs to clean the inside and spiders... but expensive..

you can find similar ones outside which costs only a fraction... just get the thinnest one possible... and use a normal brush to clean the cogs....

then... what are we waiting for?

let's go do it... anyone tries to stop us in our way... we pry their balls with our tyre levers and and give them ear piercings with our chain tool...

I use the KMC ones. Don't need to have pliers or anything, just use your hands. Been doing this once a week without any problems so far.
