At least you see girls.

Noob worker like me working in Tuas can only see bunch of bangla walking and loitering around after working hours. You hardly see any girls in this area. What a shame.

I feel the same, i see too many indons instead of bangla.... rclxub.gif

In every salary forum, eventually some multi-millionaire will find the time to long on and disclose their wealth to the rest of you lesser mortals. I have learned a lot from these anonymous internet postings. Typically high earners will fit this profile:
1. Young - around 30+

2. Successful - already earning 10k+ at 18 years old in his first job

3. Savvy in investment - every property and share investment confirmed make a few 100k like it is loose change. All never lose money in investment before.

4. Humble - even though earning six digits, they still do not think it is a lot and feel that they are poor. Sob, such poor things

I want to thank each and everyone of you high earners for taking time of your busy schedule to post on the internet. Based on your salary, even a few minutes of your time is worth hundreds of dollars, and the significance of your sacrifice is not lost on me. It is indeed heartening to know that people with your vast wealth, humility and good looks are so willing to share your success stories. I am going to graduate next year and will replicate your success and become a millionaire by 30. I have decided I will not settle for anything less than 10k per month in my first job (well, maybe low 10k since the economy is not so good).

p/s This message is only meant to thank those earning 200k per annum. For the rest of you, please GTFO and just kill yourself, you are earning too little. Pathetic!

I always take internet message boards with a (huge) grain of salt. Same thing like LYN, whenever there is a "how much are you earning by 30 years old?!?" thread, invariably the answers don't reflect my personal observation of my friends & colleagues ... i.e. everyone by age 30 already earning rm10k++++++++

Also, I'm wondering if there are any legal rules that prohibit the renting of whole HDB flats to foreigner (i.e. PR, non-PR), and thus I must rent a private apartment/condo only which will be much higher than my current estimate?

No such limitation on renting, single foreigners can rent whole HDB unit.

Hi,

Question for the experts around here.

I've recently gotten an offer that comes with I think OK salary plus a small housing allowance of SGD870 per month. It's an engineering position, office is somewhere in Jurong. Salary still negotiable but I'm wondering if it would be worth it.
Reason being, I'm not at all keen to share a place with other people, unlike where I am now where I can stay comfortably and cheaply.
The cheapest place in Singapore I can find online to rent a whole unit of HDB is like SGD2000 to SGD2500, whereas a private apartment is something like SGD3500. Are my numbers correct? Would appreciate if you guys can let me know if otherwise.

Also, I'm wondering if there are any legal rules that prohibit the renting of whole HDB flats to foreigner (i.e. PR, non-PR), and thus I must rent a private apartment/condo only which will be much higher than my current estimate? Assuming I'm staying alone, without a partner, parents or otherwise. I'm wondering because HDB flats are after all provided for the purpose as public housing...
Thanks!

I think rental in jurong shd be cheaper, especially u dun rent somewhere near to train station.
Yes, renting whole unit can sometimes be illegal, depending whether it's approved or not.
But on average, an approved 2 bedrooms whole unit HDB, 2K shd be reasonable.
If u can find those illegal, lock one room and far from train station, 1.5k shd be sufficient.

Great thank you.
No I'm not going to do something illegal, just checking if my budget calculations are correct. I'm budgeting 2.5k actually, so looks like it should be ok. Thanks again.

For new subsidised HDB units, the owner cannot rent out the entire unit for 5 years after getting keys. Look at this:

it is legal to rent the whole unit by foreigner, just make sure the owner send your information to MOM that all.

Just a question... anyone here being an EP holder, found another job and reapply for the new EP? Understood that it will take 1 day to 2 weeks.

Also, know anyone who failed to get the new EP after working in the old company for about a year and a half and then tender?

Wow, the downgrade will not really happen. Haha.. I was pushing to upgrade to P1 but did not get that so remains as P2. The interesting one is that Ex-employer can sabo one aa? Amazing.. but will the ex (or rather the current) employer knows when we go apply for new EP? They would only know when it is kena rejected/approved, right? Or I might be wrong. hehe...

^ if u apply when u with the current employer then they will not know loh
it is only when u leave them on bad terms and u dun have anything in hand
P1 easier to get than P2 since,
the sole criteria is salary only
u hit the range u get
P2 is a combo of your qualification and salary laugh.gif

Unfortunately, that is a LONG LONG way before I reach P1... way too long to dream. Elite members would be those P1 overboard with a lot of buffer to spare. We are just those "Kais pagi makan pagi, tengahari and malam and kais petang bayar kad kredit" kind of worker only.

Added on February 24, 2012, 2:33 pmIf hor, they apply for the new EP yesterday late noon, agak agak how long eh to get the result. Like waiting for the result only... keep going in to have a look but still state pending.
