Just checked WD website and seems like WD red is out, especially designed for NAS systems. any idea how is it priced?

Nvm just checked its around the price of rm 380-400. Wonder if its worth the extra 80 bucks compared to green hmm.gif

For NAS or RAID duties, it probably is worth it.

Yeah, time to go to the shop to ask for it. Just found it comes with 3 years warranty, 24/7 support and 1 million hours of MTBF. That would last me life time drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif . If available I'll just grab 2 units of 3TB and plonk it into my NAS...Hopefully the DNS 320 can support it...

The review makes it look too good... internal temp 31C under full load...oh mai shocking.gif

I won't count on that temperature on the review, cause their ambient probably went below 25C, if you have an air-cond room, that's probably around that, but if your room is not air-cond then just add ~5C to the ambient temperature which is already good.

Good morning guys !

new in LYN forum here.

Would like to know what you guys think about Transcend Ext. HDD 1TB StoreJet 25H3P or 25M3 ? Reliable ?

Also comparison of Transcend and WD/Seagate Ext HDD ?

For RM 320, i can get same capacity of 1TB and USB 3.0 but Transcend has anti-shock (drop tested) whereas WD/Seagate does not have.

Pls help.

Thank you very much !

Possible internal damage, especially the HDD mechanism internally. What's the brand/model of that external HDD? As for data recovery, try inquiring these professional data recovery services... hmm.gif

- MDR Data Recovery Solution
- Adroit Data Recovery Centre
- Seamax Data Recovery
- Ontrack Data Recovery, Singapore
- Data Recovery Center

Note: These professional data recovery services are rather expensive, expect the pricing to be in the hundreds if not thousands... sweat.gif

It doesn't matter which manufacturer it was. Very few 3.5" HDDs will survive a proper fall, and it is still chancy even with 2.5" HDDs. When handling HDDs, it is best that you treat them like glass, eggs or any other fragile goods, because they are in fact fragile.

As for repairs, the original manufacturers won't do it for you. For them, it is far cheaper to give you a brand new HDD. For you, it is also far cheaper and quicker to accept a brand new HDD. If you do want to attempt to retrieve the data, you'll need to fork out a lot of money, wait a long while, and still face the possibility of some partially recoverable data or absolutely no recoverable data.

Moving on from this disaster, it would be cheaper to buy two or more HDDs and duplicate your data between the two.

Just a discussion, a "fall down" or "dropped" HDD, shouldn't be the data on the disk itself is still intact? or electromagnetism on the disk itself (that storing the data) will be loss on the disk due to the fall?

As I reckon, when the HDD is not in operation (when carried along), a dropped could means damage the mechanical part of the HDD, as head is parked during idle (non-operation), there shouldn't be any scratches on the disk.

You may need to ask how they charge on data recovery, it might not worth your time and money to recover all the data since it's very very (x10) expensive, and if your assignment really worth that much to be recovered then by all means get it done, otherwise I think redo it sometimes could be much better choice. Good luck. icon_rolleyes.gif

According to my experience failing a subject of assignment can goes up RM1k? If the recovery can be done at half of the price then you can save plenty of time and the possibly of failing your subject. wink.gif
But, according to many research on data recovery service, it's like few hundred per MB, yes per MB... you can try to ask though. sweat.gif
