Need some urgent help here.
My mom recently bought a WD Passport 1TB.
I helped her to format her laptop and back up everything important in that HDD.
Everything was good, all files accessible without any trouble until today.
She couldn't see the drive from My Computer.
So I checked for her, I checked device manager, the HDD is detected but it's not working.
Disk Management detected but with error.
I stick my ear to the HDD and I can hear some spinning follow by "siren" (more like error sound - ****spin****dngg**dngg** ) something like that. Need urgent help.

What type of USB cable you use? Is it the Y-cable where you can plug to 2 ports to provide more power for the hard disk?

Nope. No power cord, just USB.

Please run WD's very own diagnostic tool.
http://download.wdc.com/windlg/WinDlg_124.zip

Run the short test first. If it fails.. well you don't have to run the extended test. GG.

i have a dead samsung 2.5 harddrive. already went thru the RMA process at seagate website.

but the problem is now how to pack the drive for shipping? i've read the instruction that i downloaded from seagate but it stated that one should get/BUY a specific type of plastic clamshell.

it's damn hard to return seagate hdd. last time i return WD hard drive i just put it in plastic back and give to the courier that picks it from my house.

if i put the hdd in anti static back and wrap it with newspaper or bubble wrap will seagate accept it?

anyone have experience in RMA seagate hdd?

No failure, tried. It didn't even test. I think around 2 second it says "passed" or something like that. Did that yesterday.

well, i send my hdd to their agents in malaysia because it's nearer and easier and they will send the hdd to seagate singapore.when seagate received your hdd, they will send you an e-mail acknowlodging that they have received your old hdd and they will e-mail again you when they shipped your new hdd.

It didn't even test? It should take longer than 2 seconds even if it did run the test. Sounds like a problematic disk to me.
I guess 'extended test' is not working as well?

Hi,
I also want to RMA my samsung hdd.
Do you fill in the form here, or just send it to seagate without the form.
Atm I cannot access the form in that link. Maybe the server is down or what?

Has anyone asked about the WDC 3TB HDD?
I like to know how to identify the newer 3-platter and the older 4-platter, manufacturer date being the one but I'm not too sure which date they start utilizing the 4-platter, so I'm appreciate if someone here can help me, I have googled without any result.

It typically resumes from your original warranty period.
