Well i already intended to use the hard disk as a storage because afaik WD Red is not for performance and i tend to gaming often so it's not an ideal thing to make it as a system hard disk. Thanks for the advises i'll try to find an external HDD enclosure. May i ask more question? After some browsing for the enclosure i found the keyword "up to 4TB" this makes me wonder..is there a limitation on the volume or something if i convert it into an external HDD? Thanks!
*
I don't know; it could possibly mean that the SATA-to-USB bridge in the enclosure only can recognize/support up to 4TB? haven't seen something like that for enclosures myself. for 6TB hdd tho, i'd recommend to splurge a bit and get something with USB3.0 or even eSATA if your computer supports it.

As primary drive, WD Blue (good all purpose hdd, sometimes comparable to wd black, 7200RPM)
As secondary or long term storage, WD Green (low power consumption, low noise, low heat and got some special technology in it for long-term reliability)

From I know, WD Green uses Intelli park which is one of the main reasons of WD Green drives higher failure rate

Yeah there were reports on that from pre-2010. However, I built a budget PC for my mom with a WD Green as its primary drive, and so far it's running fine. So based on personal experience (which is on only one drive though) it has not exhibited any problems.

my WD MyBook 2TB just failed on me cry.gif
Detectable, but when I double click to enter the drive, it shows I/O error.

I remove it from the casing, and connect using another external casing, but same problem remains.

Is every My Book series from WD now is with green series?

Dunno actually, I saw on youtube some opened My Books have WD Red inside oso.

If you say that the drive is detectable, does it give you a drive letter in Computer? If yes, try doing a chkdsk /r. Might be a very longshot though. sweat.gif
Another thing is that you might want to do is put the drive back into the original casing, coz WD sometimes have hardware encryption which will cause the drive to not work with other casing or as internal drive, unless you reformat it.

That's a 2.5" HDD. Unable to detect where? What's the situation?

Is it still in a laptop? Then laptop cannot boot at all? Take HDD out and put into external case and test (you might have done this already). Feel if there's any mechanical movement to see if it spins or not. If no power/vibration/mechanical movement then it's dead, dead, dead...

If it's inside an external case already and cannot be detected... was it working with the external case before this? Have you tried different cables and USB ports?
One thing you can try is reinstall USB driver.

Go to Device Manager, and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, look for USB Mass Storage Device. Uninstall it, then unplug/replug the external case.

If after that, the USB driver shows ok and still doesn't work, then go to Disk Management. Check if it's detected there or not. Maybe it has become unformatted and you need to initialize and format it again. Bad news for whatever data is in there though.

Let us know here how it goes, and good luck~ cool2.gif

My condolences bro... looks like it's dead already... OS hang probably means it's really struggling to read the sectors...

That's a bit low... you might not get the full potential of My Cloud, especially the cloud feature.

For My Book Essential, it's just a normal external HDD plugged in via USB which requires it's own power supply.

Dude have you ever thought of the WD My Passport Wireless or Seagate Wireless Plus? They go up to 2TB, and you can stream movies and songs from it to your tablet or phone. Kinda awesome especially when going on holiday or roadtrips. WD My Passport Wireless slightly better coz got SD card slot too. Can work directly via USB, or wireless with their built-in battery. And multiple ppl can connect to them at the same time too.
