Recently bought 2TB of Seagate Backup Plus Desktop version for RM252 from Lazada. Very very fast.

To be frank, I'm a bit disappointed with the pricing.

8 years ago, I bought my 1TB Buffalo at RM250.
Now I bought my 2TB Seagate at RM252.

The pricing just drop half. I expect more. Probably 4TB at RM250.

Pricing for hardisk are too expensive.

well, i think the price for hdd is steadily dropping albeit not "fast" as you would anticipate,

last year i bought a WD My Passport 2TB for 429, and now i bought a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB for 360

But now that i saw Samsung launching their first ext SSD 1TB for almost 2k+, I am praying so damn hard for it to drop from heaven's price down to Earthlings' reachable priceĀ  sweat.gif

Earthling price would be RM300 and below. Kekeke...

By the way, do you know what software can be used to get the model number of the hardisk inside the external hardisk?

I use CPUID, HD Tune etc, but they don't show. I just want to know the RPM and cache of my Seagate LTDT2000300 2TB Backup Plus.

Have you been tracking the exchange market? This morning - MYR 1.00 = USD 0.279954... down from USD 0.31776 on 28 Aug 2014, that's over 12% loss. It would be worse had BNM didn't intervene. Plus the effect of *real* inflation in Malaysia, any supposed savings have gone up in smoke. Not expecting situation to improve next quarter when GST hits.  cry.gif

BTW, be careful when you deal with Lazada. Just make sure you get the full warranty when dealing with them.
Crystaldiskinfo should show the internal HDD model.

Oh I'm long time customer of Lazada. First day Lazada is online, I already bought a few things. Probably spent more than RM10k in Lazada. Luckily haven't got any lemon yet. So I haven't test their warranty lol...

Thanks about the Crystaldiskinfo... will check tonight...

I think Lazada is the greatest thing ever happen in Malaysia.

I bought motherboard from Hong Kong (Biostar disti Junmax). It arrived in 4 days. No warranty I think.

With regards to Lazada, no need to worry since getting Seagate products. Seagate manages their own warranty without the intervention from vendors. Should be fine for the other stuffs that you buy that doesn't spoil so easily. Otherwise have to take care of the warranty yourself.

One example of what not to buy from them -

Well, I don't think Dell know where I buy it. So many OEM seller in Lazada. They might be selling real Dell stuff with Dell warranty.

oh.... then it is pretty much like you buy stuff off Amazon? where claiming warranty is on your own?  hmm.gif  hmm.gif

Actually buy anywhere also its better to claim warranty on your own. If you claim warranty from shop, it'll take longer time.

Basically its normal HDD with a big cache built into it to boost the HDD performance. For Seagate SSHD, this is a 8GB NAND. Price sits between SSD and HDD.

You can read more about it here - http://www.storagereview.com/seagate_desktop_sshd_review

Hardisk manufacturer should just put 8GB NAND in all the hardisk.

8GB nand so cheap now.

I get all and that, but is the Seagate SSHD the only one that is worth it, or is there something better in the horizon (besides a SSD, of course) ?

Yes, quantum hardisk is coming soon.

Yes they should but that would also mean that you need to put in different type HDD controller to manage the larger NAND cache. Currently LSI and Marvell are the only ones I know in 2013 making these controllers. These SSHDs haven't gotten its chance to shine yet as consumers have yet to know the performance benefits.
*
Well, if 8GB is the standard, just design once and use many times. Haha

Well unfortunately not such an easy thing to do, LSI (that makes the popular flash Sandforce controllers) was bought over by Seagate last year. If they play their cards right, they could gain the lead in the flash storage market.

probably Seagate will wait until they acquired NAND supplier.
