and i wanna buy a 3TB hdd too..wonder wd green/ seagate barracuda which one is preferred by pro.

p/s: as storage device only. i got intel ssd for my system.

Whichever is cheaper la i would say. WD Green had reliability issues in the past due to its head parking feature but the 2014 models onwards apparently are much better. Seagate HDD has had bad rep for larger drives but as of late 2014 and early 2015, is a bit better in reliability.

My advise, either one, but look at the model number and make sure it is released after 2014.

Oh this might be of interest:

Okay, please just stop using Backblaze as a credible source for reliability checks.

There has already been a lot of myths debunked on Backblaze's results. Just google them up.

The short version is, they use consumer HDDs in an enterprise environment. The HDDs are never off and are always running at maximum speed, they are never idle. If Seagate drives are so bad, then why does Backblaze keep using them? Because they are the cheapest. Just compare the other drives from WD and HGST, why so little units from them? That skews the chart entirely.

Sure their argument is that if the consumer HDDs can withstand their stressful environment, then it'll be of zero issues in a standard home usage. They also argue that Seagate drives fail but a similar drive from WD and HGST does not, that's their conclusion.

So WHY then do they NOT switch their entire cloud system to WD?! Why the HUGE disparity between units on HGST and WD in comparison to Seagate? Why then, don't they EVER use the same amount of units in the exact same stress test situation for all drives in their chart across the same platform? They never answered any of this, they just snuck their tail in between their legs and hope people forget until their next "annual" HDD failure report.

Those questions actually make sense; i tried reading up and their reason is something about number of drives per number of racks; I couldn't quite understand the explanation/excuse.

That being said, I'm still pretty happy so far with my WD Blue and green. Had one Seagate drive and it died on me; my fault though coz i umm dropped it when building a pc.... whistling.gif

i only trust hgst and samsung drives only.

seagate and western digital disappointed me x_x;
that said, HGST's Ultrastar He8 helium-filled hard disk are friggin expensive.... compared to the more traditional hdd (non-helium types)

I have several drives from different brands, and all of them have lemon units. tongue.gif

Still, there's no such thing as a reliable HDD brand - backup is all you need to combat against drive failures. icon_idea.gif

Is seagate archive 8TB hard disk really worth it? I'm just afraid that it's for archiving purposes in enterprise environment, and might not be ideal for archiving all my movies and series...

Hi FatGrass91

You mentioned that its 'not appearing'. Well you could try a few steps first before referring it to a shop. Here’s a couple of things you could try:
1. Reinstall the USB Mass Storage Device Driver from Device Manager
2. Try plugging in to a different computer to see whether is it being detected or not.
3. Try it with a different USB cable.
4. Also check to see if the light blinks and the HDD vibrates when it is plugged in.

Just keep me posted and lets hope for the best. smile.gif

hi. may I know is there anyone try putting a WD RED 3tb into Hotway 3.5" USB3.0 K32-SU3 external enclosure? I've tried the combination in lowyat(the technician there help me to assemble) but it only manage to detect 2tb..the technician have no idea what to do... luckily can refund.. then i contact the Hotway support and he told me need to change the GPT format... but I am skeptical to go buy and test it myself.. especially the drive is for my Athlon X2 PC usage... thank you for your replies...
