QUOTE(soulfly @ Mar 13 2012, 10:58 AM) I'm using Vantec NexStar CX. Price is around RM70-ish.... USB 2.0 (that time USB 3.0 hasn't come out yet). So it is like normal 3.5 external HDD?QUOTE(edministrator @ Mar 13 2012, 11:08 AM) How long was the RMA process? A month? |

Try reading the following guide to disable the WD Green's idle behaviour first before you buy an external casing.
How to Stop Excessive Load Cycles on the Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green (WD20EARS) with WDIDLE3 The WDIDLE3 download page does not say if it is compatible with the Green drives, but a WD Community Manager posted the following: QUOTE("Bill_S") Sorry, but our agent didn't know that this policy was just changed. Current WDIDLE3 works with the RE and GP drives listed below. QUOTE(edministrator @ Mar 14 2012, 07:34 AM) What company you bought it from (sent for RMA)?I only did 2 HDD RMA so far, 1 is 500GB Seagate which has the firmware issue last time, after 1 month, they called and give me a new HDD with sealed bag. (3E) 2 is my Seagate 320GB external HDD which has bad sectors problem, I gave them a nicely wrapped plastic (original packaging) and came back only with hard disk, a USB cable with plastic wrapped (darn... Compuway). |

here is my situation, hope anyone knows can help.
i got a 2.5' hdd, WD scorpio blue, broken down a few weeks ago. it is a hdd for my laptop, i replaced it with new 2.5' WD hdd also. i do not sure whether it still got warranty or not, i lost the laptop receipt. i do not intend to send for RMA, all i want is to retrieve back all the data and infomation in that broken hdd. after i have done googling and reading, i found out that, it may be caused by faulty hdd board. this is because it gives "click...click" sound when i connect to a external hdd case. BIOS cant detect the broken hdd, so i can assume that it is NOT software or broken sector problem. and i have searched in google where to buy hdd board, and its nowhere to buy it. so guys, experts, need advice. if i'm wrong, correct me and guide me. thanks! |

My friend rma's his samsung external hard disk, and seagate returned a refurbished freeagent go flex to him.
The unit has a lot of scratches with chipped paint. Is this the normal services for Seagate? If it is then something is really wrong with their policy, they should be returning a new unit for the rma units if its unrepairable. Oh nvm, just confirmed it is their policy that they will return refurbished units if u rma ur new units...In this case I'm really going to stay away from seagate... QUOTE(sI Taufu @ Mar 19 2012, 05:53 PM) Some company in Lowyat Plaza did offer file recovery services, but minimum fee is rm100 actually, when the broken hdd was still inside my laptop ady has the click, click sound.maximum can go up to rm10K. Sometimes when the hdd doesn't get enough power supply it will also got click-click sound, try to change the USB cable or external casing and connect again. i did found one company in imbi plaza, recover data for more than 320GB is RM500.... quite a butthurt there...but i'm thinking for the sake of the data in it, i'm willing to pay it... but now, i try to get the hdd board instead of sending to company for data recovery.. i make the data recovery myself....buy a hdd board is way much cheaper than paying for data recovery services... |
