actually, when the broken hdd was still inside my laptop ady has the click, click sound.
i did found one company in imbi plaza, recover data for more than 320GB is RM500....
quite a butthurt there...but i'm thinking for the sake of the data in it, i'm willing to pay it...
but now, i try to get the hdd board instead of sending to company for data recovery..
i make the data recovery myself....buy a hdd board is way much cheaper than paying for data recovery services...
*
My best advice is DO NOT DO IT, the chances to recover your data through this method is very low, since open the board itself will indirectly expose the disk to surrounding air.
and the disk is VERY SENSITIVE to any particle in the air..

My friend rma's his samsung external hard disk, and seagate returned a refurbished freeagent go flex to him.

The unit has a lot of scratches with chipped paint. Is this the normal services for Seagate? If it is then something is really wrong with their policy, they should be returning a new unit for the rma units if its unrepairable.

Oh nvm, just confirmed it is their policy that they will return refurbished units if u rma ur new units...In this case I'm really going to stay away from seagate... doh.gif
*
I wanna ask, if they return the same serial number of the old HDD when RMA return, this means they fixed the HDD? Or they took a random HDD and put in my old HDD serial on it?

Some company in Lowyat Plaza did offer file recovery services, but minimum fee is rm100 sad.gif
maximum can go up to rm10K.
Sometimes when the hdd doesn't get enough power supply it will also got click-click sound, try to change the USB cable or external casing and connect again.
*
I support your statement there. nod.gif

It happened to me once....
I can said is click-click sound because i can felt the click-click (reader arm hit something) when my palm press gently on the hdd surface.
After that i plug out the usb cable, plug in again and no more click-click.
Maybe my hdd is older than yours, so no beep-beep instead of click-click.

usually no. just removing the board would not break the airtight seal. i've done a few myself. it's only worked twice.

1) it only works if it's the board that is damaged. Not the internal mechanism. Usually it isn't the board that's faulty. That only happens in some special instances, eg power surge, or technician's error accidentally shorting it out while connecting the hard disk without shutting down the power supply.

2) the board must be identical. This means it's not enough to just match the hard disk model number, as each model typically goes through a few revisions. It's practically impossible in a home environment. Where are you going to find another identical hard disk. It's sometimes possible in an office environment, where there are many computers lying around. Especially if you usually buy a number of hard disks at the same time. They will probably have the same board.

Where did you bought from? Im very certain almost any store bough retailer will RMA it for you as long as your warranty is still valid and proof of purchase, no? hmm.gif

Shops normally only provide free 1st year warranty. After that we need to claim the warranty ourself.

There's nothing to it. You just remove the screws. It comes straight off. The trick is in finding a matching board. smile.gif

Hi guys, I've a Samsung 1TB hard disk which was bought from another lowyat forummer. During shipping, Poslaju dropped it quite hard i guess and there's a noticable large chip of plastic that broke off on the corner. Obviously it doesn't work anymore.

It's still under warranty until 2014. Is there any possibility of getting through RMA sucessfully in this circumstance?

You may get a "full replacement", since Samsung HDD product and manufacturing division have already been sold to Seagate so you have to RMA through Seagate.

They might return you a Seagate drive once completed the RMA process.

Laptop? You need to buy laptop IDE to USB in order to use it at any desktop PC, desktop PC's IDE is different from the laptop, SATA however is the same.
You may try to find friends who have it due to fact that your HDD might be spoilt if can't read from the converter you buy, it'll be a waste of $$.

Any PATA hdd casing will do, just plugin the IDE to USB module and you are good to go.
