Hi guys,
My MyBook Essential 2TB Usb3.0 cannot startup and it made some weird buzzing noise. So, I disassembled it and took out the SATA hard drive. My question is can I access it using a docking station or a Usb to SATA adapter? I heard some say that the USB controller board must be used to access it. |

Bad sectors symptom, use SMART to check for keywords "sector" or just post the SMART result here if you don't know what they do, some attributes are only for information. You can use a software call Low Level Format or similar disk wipe tool to perform deep "clean" of the disk, sometimes it may fix the "Pending sector count", means it's temporary issue, if "Reallocated sector count" increases then prepare to scrape your HDD, the surface is already damaged beyond repair. Then in HDD store files? You already answered your own question so yes, SSD for OS and some programs, little games if you like your games to load faster, normal HDD for storing huge files (picture, music, video, etc.) which does not really require speedy load time.Normal user only needs 128GB for daily usage including programs & documents as well. Heavy gamer probably can go for 256GB if they needs to install plenty of games (current games is darn huge) and they can afford it. |

I bought an external 3.5" drive yesterday, everything is working fine but my computer doesn't recognize the drive if I switch on the ext HDD before I boot my computer, it'll only work if I switch the ext HDD on after I boot into Windows. Is this normal?

Hi guys,
I'm planning to get a 2TB 3.5 inch external HDD, but not sure which one should I get: 1. Just get a 2TB external (WD/Seagate/Buffalo) OR 2. Get WD Red NAS 2TB with Rock 3.5 inch external casing I usually store HD movies in these external HDDs, so I believe WD Red is more suitable for me since I read reviews that it's suppose to have longer life span..right? I've had a 1TB MyBook before, died after almost 3 years but luckily able to replace the HDD via warranty. My friends 1TB Passport also full of bad sectors after few months on usage..so kinda have a bad impression on WD HDDs Please advise. Thanks! |

QUOTE(p-co0t @ Sep 22 2013, 08:45 AM) Thanks You can try using data recovery software like Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery, etc. another question is,i already formatted the HD, is there any method to retrieve back my files instead send it to manufacturer? There's some free one out there using Hiren's BootCD bundles. You can try to wipe it using the WD included diagnose software, can't remember what's the program's name though. Something to do with disk wipe. QUOTE(Atsumori @ Sep 23 2013, 09:43 AM) i can backup all data from both partition. You can try disk wipe software (Low Level Format is one of it) to wipe the disk clean to manufacturer default settings then start align/create partition from there.but cannot format the raw partition. maybe need to delete all partition and make new partition, im not sure, i will try later. If this fail could means the surface is damage beyond repair or the controller itself is fried/corrupted. This is the EOL, nothing you can do other than RMA or paper weight. |

But I more prefer Option 2 with WD Green becoz its cheaper (Price 2TB Red = 3TB Green). Not sure about reliability, I guess its about luck Note that WD Green have warranty 2 yrs, WD Red & WD MyBook 3 yrs So take your pick |
