I don't think there's anyone out there selling this unless they don't plan to add extra hard disk in their chassis any more.
Also this items is not in the accessories area so I assume they don't sell these separately.

You can ask at Garage Sales to try your luck. hmm.gif

Planning to buy an external 2.5" HDD 1TB USM 3.0 for storage. Reliability and years of warranty are priority, performance is secondary.

Down to 3 choices after referring to pricelist
1. Buffalo mini station RM24x
2. Hitachi Touro Mobile RM22x
3. Western Digital MyPassport RM24x

Are these models come with 3y warranty?

Looking for suggestion, currently I considering to buy toshiba canvio slim or sony external hard disk.

So far, I do not have any experience regarding hard disk.

Anyone owned sony external hard disk ? How does its weight, does it feel heavy to carry around ? I need ultra portable and light weight since I travel around.

Warranty doesn't bother me as long as the hard disk is reliable for daily use

tumpang thread, does anyone know if the RAID configuration of HDD will increase the lifespan of any harddisk? What is the lifespan difference between RAID 0,RAID 1, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 4,RAID 5, RAID 6...? Is it possible a 5 years warranty harddisk can last 10 years lifespan in Raid setup?

RAID doesn't improve the lifespan of your HDD bro. It just prevent you from data loss.

I read some reviews as they (RAID) are shortening the lifespan of HDD in return, so I think to further secure any data, DVD-ROM still an indispensable option.

Wanted to buy a new external harddisk, but why got so many different variants with the same capacity but different price from 1 manufacturer? (BTW, I want to buy from IPMart is it reliable?)

http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/WD,M...php?prod=378478

and

http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/West...php?prod=351129

Why got RM10 difference? The expensive one better?

or should I go back to Seagate?

http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/Seag...php?prod=351904

Because currently I have been using my Seagate FreeAgent GO 320GB for more than 4 years and it is still running well, just that its storage is full already, no way I am going to delete files in them

WD Passport includes a backup utility that "automatically" helps you back up your files when it is connected to your PC.
Personally I find softwares like this intrusive and stupid. If you are having an external HDD, chances are you are backing up your stuff manually anyways.

RM10 is nothing much, but I'd personally go for the Elements as it has no software in it. Just plug and play.

Othrewise if you like the looks of the Passport or the Seagate Backup Plus, you can permanent delete the software by reformatting the drive before use.

You can use HDDScans to get the SMART after you connect successfully to your Windows PC, then try to verify the issue from there, if you can't get the SMART through the USB controller then you need to plug into a desktop system and get it from there.
If your HDD does not support SMART then you can try to verify by plug-in other HDD of the same size into the external casing and see if the same issue arise.
Also test your current HDD by plug-in to a normal desktop system and test it to see if it has trouble starting up, normally you can hear the sound better by locate the HDD outside of the casing, you should be able to hear the motor and head seeking noise.

Good luck. wink.gif

p/s: Hope you can understand my language, I'm pretty straight forward here, assuming you know some of the technical get around. blush.gif
