Guys, got a few options in my head.
GF5 (twin lens) - RM1400
D3100 (18-55) - RM1499
D3200 (18-55) - RM1750 (second hand)
Which would you get? I'm totally torn between these

I would go for the GF5 if I want something lighter. D3200 for more controls/dials and easier accessibility to certain functions. Wider choices of upgrades too (lenses/accessories)

The Canon 60D and the Nikon D7000 is within your price range. They're semi pro models, pretty good all round cameras. As for which to go for, I suggest you to try out each of them first. They're similarly spec-ed and either choice would be a great one, rest assured

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera (first timer, using compact before)
Budget : RM2500+ inc lens
Your Location : Ipoh
Preferable brand : Canon or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Casual shots and taking picture of my baby growing up and maybe a bit of video
Any specific models in mind? : Nikon or Canon
Any specific features u want? : Good for taking portraits even at night and indoors
You might want to allocate more on accessories such as a dedicated external flash unit (around RM300-400). I'd say go for a Canon 600D at around RM2k+ (not sure of the price) and get the external flash unit to properly expose your subjects especially in indoor lighting situations or in poorly-lit environments.
Getting a faster lens for shallower Depth of Field (and low light capabilities) is also another thing worth considering. It helps to minimize background distractions (blurs the background). Costs about RM300 for a basic 50 f/1.8 lens, but I'd recommend the Canon 35mm f/2 at around RM600-700 (2nd hand)

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Compact camera
Budget: RM1000 - RM1500 and below. wouldn't mind if I have to squeeze RM100+-, depending on the comparison given
Your Location: Studying in Kelantan, but from Sabah
Preferable brand : Canon/Olympus/Panasonic
Type of photography u want to do : Scenes, portraits, low-lights, sports, not sure, but for general point-and-shoot use with good clarity
Any specific models in mind? : For some reason, I thought of the Tough series from Olympus also Lumix waterproof series. But, if got a good camera with a waterproof accessory that is a near comparison to a solid waterproof camera, then I wouldn't mind having a non-waterproof camera
Any specific features u want? : Good picture reproduction, not sure bout this, as I am clearly not a camera professional, not even an amateur, but as long as it looks rich and solid in its colours off the camera's screen and on my laptop/desktop. Also, I like to bring my camera for adventures or sort, the reason it being waterproof, but debatable, as some of my family members advised me on just taking a good non-waterproof camera and buying out a solid waterproof-case.
Please enlighten me oh wondrous camera Guru(s)! I really don't know anything bout camera and all, but am really willing to learn and take notes buying cameras!

I'd definitely skip any sort of water-proof cameras as you will have to live with the compromises of the design of the camera to make it waterproof, which I feel is not worth it. Yes, your family members are right. For that kind of price you can easily get a good performing compact camera with enthusiast level functions such as a bigger camera sensor, fast aperture lens, great auto focus system to name a few.
Btw, please refer to first page, 2nd post from me for some compact camera models recommendations...
