Was going to get our first dslr until my family got themselves bait into the mirrorless hype and i was still not impressed with the sony a6000. So I decided to get another Real DSLR this time around.

let's just say personal perferece. Personally I'm not convinced that mirrorless would be better than DSLR if battery life and quality is anything to go by
*
Battery life is for sure not as good as standard DSLRs but image quality wise, they are on par. The A6000 has a really fast AF system when paired with a fast lens and has a super fast 11fps burst mode and many other great features. It's the best camera to buy now. I came from a semi pro DSLR (Canon 60D) and the A6000 comfortably replaces my DSLR, I could even shooting wedding photography with it lol.

Anyway, the D5K series lack motor, meaning you can only pair it with certain lenses to get auto focus. A little hampering on future plans... So you might wanna check that out.

No offence, and call me old school. But IMHO, the mirrorless camera felt more of a "hipster gear" than a next step in DSLR evolution in terms of not just size/weight/portability, but also design, sensor range, quality and gimmicks.

I did rather use a what-you-would-called heavy, bulky, outdated design DSLR with limited accessories than a PnS camera successor.

Plus I used to owned a film camera for family photos until it was thrown away because "outdated, no value keeping it blah blah blah....."

Also I don't even see the benefits of getting a lot of other brand lens for the a6000 just because it can fits, as quote by that shopkeeper baiter, and he didn't try to mount the Nikon lens to the a6000 (lies), and I would only get a few lens since I won't be too hardcore in this particular hobby.

So anybetter suggestion besides the d5k series?

None taken. We all have our own preferences smile.gif

Might want to ask in the respective Nikon/Canon threads as I'm a lil outdated on DSLRs and their prices..

Speaking from experience, a good tripod, a normal zoom, an ultra wide angle (if possible) and a fast prime would be good enough for travel photography smile.gif

Very hard to find FF camera within your budget. At most you might be able to get a 5D used (body only) for RM1k.

Just to add to that, some cheap Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 go for less than Rm500 on ebay. Manual primes though..

You guys can recommend me whether its a DSLR or Point Shoot Camera.
I'm just a rookie, so dont expect me to use Manual mode too much..
My smartphone camera did a good job, but I didnt like the way that
taking photos with a smartphone is too awkward and sometimes Its annoying when you want to shoot but someone's calling you.

Allright, my budget is RM 1500(lowball ke?)~

You could get an advanced compact camera with that budget or you could squeeze in a 2nd hand DSLR.

For advanced compacts, look around those cameras with manual controls with bigger than average sensors like those from Lumix, Olympus, Sony RX100 (maybe), Canon S series.

Not familiar with the latest compacts liao..

Hey guys, looking for a camera to bring around for travelling and good in low light. I currently use film camera (SLR and P&S) but planning to get a DSLR or mirrorless for travelling to prevent out of focus shots and for low light situations.

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR/Mirrorless
Budget: <RM4.5K with 1 prime and zoom lens
Your Location:   KL/Selangor
Preferable brand :  None
Type of photography u want to do :  Landscape, Street
Any specific models in mind? :  Canon 750D Nikon D7100/D3300
Any specific features u want? :  Flip screen, good in low light
*
Personally I prefer a smaller camera to shoot street especially if you wanna capture closes up shots of people. Much more discreet and less intimidating..

All DSLRs/Mirrorless come with a standard zoom lens by default unless you're buying the body only. You could use that. As for primes, it really depends on your taste. Personally I like the 35mm on ASPC as it gives a very natural look/perspective , akin to what our eyes see.

Any specific models in mind? :  a6000 or any fuji or panasonic canon

Product shots? I assume you have the lighting equipments for it, eg: flash gun, strobes, white background, etc?

If not, do allocate budget for that. Lighting is more important than equipment especially for product photography..

A good enthusiast compact camera with a 1" sensor like the Sony RX100, Canon G7 Mark I/II or a 2nd hand mirrorless camera like the Sony A5000 series or even the NEX line up should fit the budget. The smaller sized compacts will greatly introduce you to photography and it will be adequate enough as you can fiddle with manual controls, etc.

As you get introduce to the world of photography, you'll get introduced to many technicalities and creativity which you will learn & master the next few years and then you can decide on upgrading your equipment smile.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories : preferable compact/mirrorless with fixed lens, not too bulky.
Budget: up to 3.5k
Your Location:   ipoh, perak
Preferable brand :  Sony, fujifilm, lumix... But any other good ones also acceptable
Type of photography u want to do :  expecting my first baby. Want to have a good camera to capture moments.
Any specific models in mind? :
Any specific features u want? : not bulky. I'm a beginner in photography. Good auto focus. Prefer to have good 4k 60fps ability, but optional. Important is consistency of producing good focus and images.
1 inch and above sensor (higher the better).
*
When it comes to photographing babies/toddlers/children, auto focus performance comes first and with that I recommend the Sony RX100 Mark 4 or VA

I don't think any other mirrorless camera can offer a better AF performance and a fast f/1.8-2.8 stabilized lens within your budget.

Type of photography u want to do :  Landscape, Portrait, Street
Any specific models in mind? :  A7ii, A7iii, Eos RP(unreleased yet)
Any specific features u want? :  Fast  accurate AF, accurate color, good color science, better dynamic range

Currently using 70D

A7 III costs RM7300 for body only and the EOS RP costs RM5999 body only.

A7 II is within your budget as you can get it below RM4k for a used unit. Use the extra to get the 28-70 kit lens. Althoguht might not be ideal but still doable for the types of photography mentioned.

For 3k budget, I suggest you get the M50 + viltrox 23mm f1.4 or sony a6000 + viltrox 23mm used.

Those lens that comes with the camera are called kit lens, they are not that much better than your smartphone lenses. What is it that your smartphone camera cannot do for you that you need to get a dslr camera? If you going to get a kit lens, then you better off saving your money and used that to contribute to your next smartphone upgrade, because kit lens usually are not that much better than your smart phone lenses.

Having used Canon, Sony and Fuji (currently) I can personally vouch for Fujifilm's colour science as THEY ARE AMAZING right out from the camera (JPEG or RAW).

Sure, you can always post process each of your pictures but may be time consuming depending on how picky you are.

Some other considerations for event photography:

For pictures of people, get a good external flash unit with a diffuser of your choice.
Busy background? See if you can squeeze in a 50mm f/1.4 lens to get a shallower depth of field (DOF) to blur the busy background. A 85mm f/1.8 lens would give an even shallower DOF but you need to stand quite a bit back.

Otherwise, an all rounder would be a zoom lens or a kit lens that comes with the camera (must have image stabilisation!). If budget permits, see if you can get a zoom lens with a bigger aperture like the Fuji 18-55mm with f/2.8-4 aperture (not sure what are the prices right now).

For inanimate objects like the finer details.. pictures of food, gifts, flowers, etc, a longer focal length is usually desirable to minimize the wide angle distortion which will result in disproportionate size like objects near the lens will appear larger, objects further away will appear much smaller.
