What i wanna say is that it is better to get unlimited 15mbps than a 100mbps with 100gb quota, which i think is more worth it since it is same price anyways.

With such a fast connection it is very easy to burn through 100gb and you don't even need to be a download whore to do so.Just share it with few other people in the family and 100gb easily gone in a few days perhaps.

Fibre networks got more than enough bandwidth to go around,if done correctly.The real download whores are the ones downloading more than 500GB IMHO with a residential connection so you really should be scolding those people.

just because its better for you doesn't mean its better for everyone else.

some people use the internet for themselves and don't need the quota. do you even know what demographic means?

For those wondering how the cables are being routed into the house and how does it run to the distribution terminal, sharing my installation photos below. Done under Astro IPTV but fibre service by TIME.

Thx for the info. Not even Unifi contractor can do the extra mile like this. Currently using VDSL instead of Fibre for Unifi.

Guess we all have a different idea how an ideal internet service should be smile.gif

No use pondering about it since most of us won't get the Time Fiber anyways...

"A number of broadband Internet Service Providers in North America and Europe introduced bandwidth caps in the early 2000's[citation needed]. The same practice has been in place in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Africa since the release of broadband. Data caps on internet in New Zealand result from many popular websites being hosted in the United States, hence local ISPs must lease international capacity; a proponent of a second international cable to the United States claims that cheaper international capacity will result in ISPs raising their data caps."

clue card.

@mamapamsia

I have just tested the download from download.com and yes, the download speed is very unsatisfying 30kb/s-60kb/s, but only if I do not use parallel download, if I use download manager it reach about 150kb/s on 4 chunk and 300kb/s on 8 chunk. Just my 2cent, there might be some bandwidth slimming applied on CNET, try to test download file from some other site,
I am not sure whats wrong, but current solution u can use download manager that support multi chunk/parallel splitting

Standard download speed
[attachmentid=3036767]

4 Chunk Speed using Downthemall
[attachmentid=3036770]
8 chunk speed using Downthemall
[attachmentid=3036772]
Check the router also, sometimes bad router setting may affect (but don't touch anything if don't know), if the download manager also show slow speed, try to escalate it to the customer service.

Hope it helps.

ps: Max chunk in dta is 10chunk

Hey bro, i downloaded not only from download.com. I tried many other websites and all give me bullcrap speeds. Even my streamyx 4mb package can download files at around 200kbps from the same sites i tested.

With streamyx 4mb i can stream youtube 720hd without buffering.but with time 10mbps, youtube videos keep buffering at 720hd . My streamyx 4mb is so much more faster than time 10mbps.

I dl torrents using my 4mb line can get 300-400kbps . With time, i can get 200-300kbps. Wtf right?

Everything i do online is slower on time which is why i have cancelled time 10mb package after just a few daysusage and applied unifi vip20 already.

Time might be 100% fibre optic . But somehow streamyx with copper line still gives much faster speeds! Cant wait for unifi now!

Well, I am streamyx 4mbps user b4 also, and same can't be said for streamyx though. I need vpn just to enable p2p run at higher than 20kb/s, and streaming, tough luck. Streaming, especially the live one, can just disconnect in between now and then, not to say a quite high ping (probably High Rise Building) for gaming. But in the end, different location has different speed, so can't really say much, some area Unifi are good (friends from damansara experience good speed there, while pj quite unstable). Customer service wise, I have to admit some of them are quite not that knowledgeable (I called the CS 4 times, and all of them say my place is not covered, LoL), but lucky I got one contractor which is nice, hehehehe.
In the end, all ISP is on best effort basis, if they can't, then they won't. Maybe its not ur luck to use Time, but enjoy your Unifi, its also not bad.

Just a tips,

I checked using firefox that if you use auto-proxy setting, the internet become quite unstable, choose no proxy on firefox.

true, even my Unifi cant get the full speed with single connection. I use FDM(FreeDownloadManager) an open source IDM alternative and has been getting full speed regardless of the ISP I am using. Jdownloader is another good open source alternative wink.gif

I have tested this on my friend's Time connection and FDM is getting full speed as well. give it a try icon_rolleyes.gif

He is using the Astro broadband package, I think that might be some factor as I think most user in this thread is the direct subscriber package from Time, not thru astro.

Another thing, don't expect full speed out of boost. Boost is really only effective on parallel connection, that is if you share your connection with another. With boost of 50mbps, at most per connection I got is around 20-30mbps, that is thru fast server like MSDN or Youtube. You will experience better if that boost is used around P2P connection, especially encapsulated with VPN thus create a fast routing network (This is just my assumption and experience). Not that you need to spend another VPN for that.

I find it quite strange on your Dell download, I download at speed around 500kb/s. Just my suspect, maybe try to turn off Astro Decoder, it may saturate the bandwitdh/connection limit. Just my assumption, maybe IX bandwitdh for Astro user is limited compared to those suscribe directly to Time. Try to contact the customer service through email, for me this is the faster way to approach them.

1. astro package and time package no difference. iptv/vod is on separate vlan.

2. you don't need to use parallel connectivity to achieve max bandwidth, you can do that with just a single connection provided that the server/network you're downloading from do not impose any policing.

3. the farther the server/network you're reaching, the lower the throughput. google for tcp window and latency.

Guys, how is the service like for TIME broadband? seems pretty reasonably priced for their packages.

I'm interested in their 8Mbps package

Thanks!

You would like us to speed test some server for you? Just post the link, and maybe we can try to give the screenshot. Then it is up to you to decide.
