Srry for the real lack of update peeps... Life has gotten onto me and I didn't ve time to plan for a better format for the thread...

anyway, given that there's many resources on the Internet to check out the benchmarks, I will not post them here again... Instead, I will post only the current GPU family +- 1 generation, and points to which notebook model comes with it... again, i will need the help of everybody so that we can have a complete list here... PM me or post here with the link to prove...

References:

can anyone please help me with this decision?

I want to buy a highend laptop primarily for video editing (eg Adobe Premier Elements 9/10).

Question - should I get a
1. HP Pavilion dv7-6c00TX 17.2" which has AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
OR
2. Asus G53SX-IX199V 15.6'' which has NV GTX560M (2GB GDDR5 VRAM)

Thanks a lot. Been dingdonging with these and researching for the past week. So far, comments point to NV GTX560 rather than the Radeon.

Do you all agree as well?

believe it or not, priority will be CPU and RAM...

raw graphic performance wise, GTX 560M is miles ahead of HD7690M...

my opinion is, if u re satisfy with a dv6, y not juz get a MSI GE620DX instead? it's rm100 cheaper than dv6, comes with 8GB RAM pre-installed, and Full HD monitor, with roughly the same performance as dv6... and then max out to 16GB...

bro.. got 1 technical issue need ur explanation… no matter what driver i installed, it stated “installation complete (warnings occurred during installation) view log for details. i clicked the view log & noticed ntg suspicious but by dragging to the bottom part “error message” never stated any error for drivers at all.. this is the weird part which i can’t find any error on it but still showing this message no matter what driver i’m using it. (driver sweeper + ccleaner + f8 + %temp% + %appdata% + control panel/device manager)

i edited “InstallManager.cfg” on notepad to “WorkaroundInstall=true” (defaults “WorkaroundInstall=false”)
tried it either way still get this view log error but my CCC is working fine. my friend told me might due to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable unable to detect the version & ignored it, do u have any solution since u on this thread?

I have one suggestion. You should put a list of what GPU you could get for specific laptop budget for example under RM1k, under RM2k etc. and also its capability. For its capability you can just point out to notebookcheck for its benchmarks.

Seems like an even more efficient architecture compared to the GF106 resulting in almost 10% improvement in benchmarks.

Performance should be slightly lower and higher than the GTX560M for the GT640M and GT650M respectively.

Nothing much about it, it's a decent entry level solution. Can play most games, just need to sacrifice on the details.

well Nvidia is sure to piss off their fans with a 128-bit GTX... laugh.gif

not even GDDR5 can compensate that...

feels more like a direct competitor to Radeon HD7700M and HD7600M, whose predecessor (HD6700M) ve probably burnt a hole in the market share of GT 555M and 550M...

Unless the game benchmarks prove that the 128-bit bus isn't a limitation, looks like I'm going back to supporting AMD this year.

Can anyone explain gpu in xps 1340?
I'm confuse because couldn't get accurate information about it.
Is Geforce 9400m+210m = 9500m?
How to check my discrete memory for my laptop.

QUOTE
In conjunction with a chipset from Nvidia with integrated graphics (e.g. 9400M), the G 210M supports Hybrid-SLI (HybridPower and GeForceBoost). HybridPower is a technique to choose between the integrated and dedicated graphics core, if performance or battery runtime is needed. This works only in Windows Vista (and possibly Windows 7). Up to now the user has to use a tool to switch between the GPUs. Later Nvidia wants to switch automatically in the drivers. GeForceBoost uses the integrated graphics core of the Nvidia chipset (e.g. 105M) and the dedicated of the G 210M in SLI mode to achieve better frame rates.

Ain't the bus size that matters only, the G210M only has 16 SP but still pretty respectable.

So GTX570M will get a direct rebadge to GTX670M with a slight increase in core, memory clock and TDP. Meanwhile GTX580M will be rename to GTX675M.

Yeah.. GK107 will get DDR3 while GK117 will get DDR5.

Does Kepler have HyperThreading-ish technology like Intel proc? because it have abnormally high count of shader processors unlike previous generation. hmm.gif

Doubt so but Kepler's architecture seems like a departure from Fermi more like.

I just wonder how real world performance would be with so many SP but on a low bus width.

That's like 50% more cores than the GTX680... drool.gif

Won't be seeing that much of a cores on mobile till at least next year... I think...

My only interest right now is for the High end mobile GPU..

Current 6970M performs in between of a desktop 6790 and 6850..

IF the new 7970M performs near the 7850(40%-50% more of the 6850) performance, that is something I cannot wait to see! drool.gif

GTX680M by right should perform near(faster or slower) the 7970M performance... I think... tongue.gif

After a week of testing, I can conclude NVIDIA Verde 295.73 WHQL is the best driver available in this moment for the Green Camp.

It is stable and the optimization on the latest games are great.

Talking about driver, how about ATi nowadays? Any improvement in their driver update?

Read somewhere that the 7970M will appear either on 30th April or 30th May. A bit doubt that it will be released end of the month, but who knows.

Perform about 20-30% better than the current 6990M.

Cost more expensive than the GT675M.

While the GTX680M is rumored to be out on 2nd of July.

Fits all the requirements demanded by my gf. haha

Yeah, I stumbled across LBO website, but after reading about acer m3. I think I'll opt out Clevo (warranty is another reason). Besides that, her budget is $1,000 max.

hi! i want to play battlefield with max-ed out settings. saw my friend's G53sx with gt570m , the graphics is awesome!
but i could only get either MSI's ge620dx FHD (gt635m) or ge 60 (gt650m).
i was wondering to get which one. if the gt635m can handle the ultra settings, i could save up alot than to get the more expensive ge60.
advice please? thanks!

M3's main weakness is the poor position of the power button and build quality.

hi! i want to play battlefield with max-ed out settings. saw my friend's G53sx with gt570m , the graphics is awesome!
but i could only get either MSI's ge620dx FHD (gt635m) or ge 60 (gt650m).
i was wondering to get which one. if the gt635m can handle the ultra settings, i could save up alot than to get the more expensive ge60.
advice please? thanks!
*
G53SX only has a GTX560M.

The MSI GE60 would be better than the GE620DX in terms of graphics. The GT635M can only do medium smoothly.

Mm, that's odd.
I've seen quite a lot of temperature issues and complains for the A42Jv by other LYN forumers and I am one of them.
Did you change the thermal paste or changed any configuration?

Nope, never changed the paste. I only cleaned the fans. Perhaps during assembly, the heatsink was not placed properly.

Only temperature complain I have is the hard drive bay. Excessively warm at 50C average.

UNBELIEVABLE!

Running on an old overclocked i7-920XM (4Ghz I think)

This THING is a FREAKIN BEAST!
It's like running a Desktop GTX570 on a laptop!

Specs are 10% underclocked than the current AMD 7870.

The mobile assault line-up is based upon renaming the parts we knew from desktop side - Pitcairn (HD 7800 on desktop) is becoming HD 7900M Series, codenamed Thames. Cape Verde (HD 7700) got renamed as Lombok (HD 7800M). Naturally, the Trinity APU will cause a lot of changes, occupying the Radeon 7600M and 7700M series..

Oops.. It's actually i7-2920xm(4Ghz), on an Alienware M17x R3.

The one on a stock i7-920xm, on an Alienware M15x, scores P5414 :

NBC's Intel HD4000's performance benchmark is out:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Grap...ed.73567.0.html

QUOTE
Overall, we are impressed by Intel's new integrated graphics core. The manufacturer has solidly improved over the previous HD 3000 by a rough average of 30 percent. This difference can be even greater at 30-40 percent if the GPU is paired with a powerful quad-core Ivy Bridge CPU like the i7-3610QM. Even the top AMD Llano chips cannot compete with the HD 4000, at least in our benchmark comparisons above. Intel has the upper hand by about 15 percent or more compared to AMD's Fusion Llano offerings.

It's official. HD7970M is a downclocked version of HD7870 thumbup.gif

QUOTE
For now, AMD has only shed precise details regarding the HD 7970M GPU that is based on the fully enabled Pitcairn GPU with 1280 stream processors that will end up clocked at 850MHz for the GPU and 4.8GHz for 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface.

As you can notice, the HD 7970M has lower GPU clocks than its HD 7870 desktop counterpart, but AMD also decided to keep the memory at the same level resulting in 153.6GB/s of memory bandwidth. According to AMD slides, HD 7970M should end up to be anywhere between 30 and 60% faster than HD 6990M and anywhere between 16 and 76 percent when compared to Nvidia current high-end GTX 675M GPU.

AMD officially announces Radeon HD 7000M mobile GPUs - Fudzilla

If this GPU price really $100 lower than GTX675M it really a huge bargain.

Niiice!

Some more info and scores :

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5778/amd-lau...00m-mobile-gpus

Can't wait to see the 7770M performs!

Current benchmark shows that the 7770M scores 2417 in 3Dmark11. About on par with the GT650M.

It should perform quite well on new games.

Kepler, Fermi, new, rebrand?

Nvidia has updated its OEM desktop lineup by silently listing a total of five different graphics cards that simply made a mess of everything. It is now pretty hard to know which graphics card is based on the new 28nm GK107 GPU, or which are simply rebrands of the 40nm Fermi based GF116 and GF114 GPUs.

The question is can Nvidia provide something as powerful with similar power consumptions? hmm.gif

That's the beauty of the AMD 7870.

Well, maybe they can.

Current Kepler GTX 680 does consume less power than the previous generation.

If I'm not mistaken, that scores came from a custom driver.

Not sure whether it will be much higher if it is with official driver.

Probably due to the CPU.

The GT640M is using the ULV i7 2637M 1.7GHz (2 cores)
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...0M.71579.0.html

While the GT555M is using the i7 2630QM 2GHz (4 cores)

Need to wait for more review of the GT640M using different CPU, then we will see the difference. I think. hmm.gif

GT640M LE in Y480 is Fermi based.. it has 96 shader processors [Fermi's], 128bit GDDR5 memory. The performance is similar to the crippled GT555M in Y570.

Obviously the difference is in the Vram capacity. ph34r.gif

No diff in speed and performance unless the 1GB run out of Vram when playing games but less likely to happen.

Oh, that's too bad. It would've been quite a good buy if it is GT 640M. It sucks I'm missing out on the HP Pavillion dv6t Quad Ed.

Researching a lot of laptops nowadays.
Most laptops around $1,000 has the same old spec. i5-2540M, GT 630M, or add another $100 for i7-3610QM..

Since GTX660 Ti is expected to be out in Q3.
If NVIDIA couldn't wait to release their High-end Kepler, could this be a GTX680M(or GTX685M) in the making? tongue.gif

Lookin at this laptop, thinking whether I should recommend my girlfriend to wait till June when the IB and maybe the GT 650M is out.

Will the price of laptops with GT 650M be a lot more expensive compared to laptops with GT 640M?

it takes a while for the price to settle down. New thing are always expensive. May be a few months from now u see 650m being price the same as Gt555m now.

A smaller fabrication process would be more efficient and would produce less heat. There is a heat issue coming from the Ivy Bridge architecture design which is partially confirmed to be due to the thermal compound used.

it could be more efficient n could produce less heat.. but it didn't..
a 25% reduction in surface area, 10 - 20 % improvements, same power envelope, about the same speed.
they're probably using the same old fan design n not making it suit the smaller surface area..

at least the desktop chips made improvements, from 95W to 77W

ok, threads derailed

same applies to GC also, but it seems they are either accomodating for the cooling or the chips just run more efficiently and at a lower TDP

It can max it out at 1366x768 and maybe even 1600x900 resolutions.

The GT640M is still heaps more powerful than the GT635M which is just a rebadged GT555M. The GT640M LE is still less powerful than the GT640M.

The GT650M's performance is more or less in between the previous Nvidia GTX460M and GTX560M, quite powerful for a mainstream GPU

Apparently it will not take the crown from 7970M.

QUOTE
According to a post over at Videocardz.com, it appears that Nvidia is preparing a new Kepler-based mobile chip. It will be based on the GK104 GPU and will be known as the GTX 680M. According to early performance figures, the GTX 680M will not be able to dethrone AMD's current mobile flagship, the HD 7970M.

Although precise clocks are still missing, the early specs for the GTX 680M suggest that we are looking at a GK104-based chip that will have either 744 or 768 CUDA cores and feature up to 4GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. The rumoured TDP of this chip is up to 100W.

The leaked benchmarks shows that the card could end up around 37 percent faster than current Nvidia flagship, the GTX 670M, which is based on Fermi architecture. It scores 4905 points in 3DMark 11 performance preset when paired up with Core i7-3720QM Ivy Bridge CPU.

As noted, the 4905 score, if proven to be accurate, is not enough to dethrone AMD's current flagship, the HD 7970M. According to previous benchmarks of the HD 7970M, it scores 6125 points in the same 3DMark 11 when paired up with Intel's Core i7-2820.

Of course, we are still looking at early reports and rumours, but it is nice to know that Nvidia is at least considering such a chip and we are surelly looking forward to see some more details at Computex event when it kicks of on June 5th.

Yeah, read that couple of days ago.
Not sure legit or not.
It's the same picture I've posted a month ago before the 7970M showed up.
Unless nvidia still gonna go with it and fight later with GTX685M? hmm.gif

A big hope... But still, looks kinda possible because of the low TDP... laugh.gif

A GTX670 is 25% faster than the 7870(based for 7970M) or as fast as the desktop 7970.

Assuming it strip down or downclock abit aggressively than the 7870.
Even a 20% faster than the 7970M will still be a wonder compared to the previous generation.
A 7970M is almost 50% faster than the GTX580M(GTX675M), if a GTX685M is 20% faster than the 7970M, means it is 80% faster than the GTX580M! drool.gif

HP G4-2026TX since the games u mention mostly use DX9 and that make CrossfireX on Llano platform unavailable. That i3 is more powerful than the A6. Also.. better ram and HDD capacity.

Will a GTX 580/675 do well with CAD applications like autocad, revit, 3ds Max, sketchup? anyone here using gtx 580 or a gpu with similar performance can comment on this?

I've seen ppl using 580 instead of the quadro gpus because it is relatively cheaper and perform very close to one. Would like some advice here.

thanks notworthy.gif

A GTX670 is 25% faster than the 7870(based for 7970M) or as fast as the desktop 7970.

Assuming it strip down or downclock abit aggressively than the 7870.
Even a 20% faster than the 7970M will still be a wonder compared to the previous generation.
A 7970M is almost 50% faster than the GTX580M(GTX675M), if a GTX685M is 20% faster than the 7970M, means it is 80% faster than the GTX580M!  drool.gif

GTX 680M! drool.gif

The new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M Graphics Card features:
1344 NVIDIA CUDA Cores with 4GB of GDDR5 Graphics Memory
Processor click up to 720 MHz
Memory clock up to 1800 MHZ
256-bit memory bus width and 115.2 GB/s memory bandwidth

So, they ARE going to use the GTX 670 for the GTX 680M as predicted.

80% faster than the GTX 580M. Spot on. brows.gif

Within the same series, GTX is generally better than GT.
But it seems the GT650m has OC potential to rival the stock GTX660M

LOL dumbass Nvidia with their self-proclaim best mobile GPU in the world for GTX680M. Only worth getting that card if the price is the same as 7970, which is much less likely.

Anyway they forget to turn off Vsync for ME3 lol.

Yup, definitely will go for GTX680M if they have the same price.

Even if it is USD100 more expensive, I might also still go for the GTX680M. But, not more than that. tongue.gif

Apparently after a year, AMD released a driver that support OpenGL to be run on your discrete GPU if u're using Dynamic switching. Starting from Catalyst version 9.00, you will be able to use your dGPU to play OpenGL games or run OpenGL application.

MOD it to 735MHz.
OC it to 870MHZ, it only detect in GPU-Z, but it actually doesn't move above 735MHz.
Still abit buggy.

Don't play game much, only tested Diablo 3, Battlefield 3, NFS Shift2, and Blacklight Retribution.

But not bad I must say.

AIDA64 Stress Test for CPU and GPU :

Stock (500MHz) = GPU goes up to 84c (to be expected from a 1 fan & vent thin laptop tongue.gif )

735MHz = Up to 87c

835MHz = Up to 88c

950MHz = Up to 89c

Nope, it wont work on mine by just using overclocking tools application.

Just made a short simple video comparing a stock GT640M LE(500MHz) vs BIOS MOD GT640M LE(1000MHz) running NFS SHIFT 2.
100% OC on GPU!
But bottlenecked by the slow DDR3. tongue.gif

Temp only increased around 4 celsius in gaming, 6 celsius in stress test from stock (still within the safe range).

Different games will definitely get different results.
Performance increased in gaming is about 40% to 70%, depending on what game.

So, for those looking for a portable & gaming laptop, you may take a look at :
Vaio SVS13116FGB (Black), 13.3" HD, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3299[1.72kg], 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP

If you're willing to spend extra :
Vaio SVS13118GGB (Black), 13.3" HD, i7-3520M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3999[1.67kg], 8GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7P
Vaio SVS13A15GGB (Black), 13.3" HD+ (1600x900), i7-3520M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM4799[1.67kg], 8GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7P

It is like having a lightweight(1.67kg-1.72kg) and portable(13.3 inch) laptop with a GT650M DDR3 GPU performance. thumbup.gif

Thread becoming slow and boring now a days.
Might as well use it for other purpose, as long as it is a GPU discussion. biggrin.gif

Btw, talk about OC, been seeing users of GTX680M manage to do crazy overclock as well, reaching above 8k in 3DMark11!

I just wait till someone brought my ancient M17x then I will get my hand on the mighty GTX680M.

Either it will Sager or Alienware, no decision made so far. I tired traveling with nearly 8-10KG laptop with its accessories, chargers, battery etc.

That ancient M17x of yours is still quite powerful though.

So, you're still going with an SLI capable laptop? Or going for a single GPU since you're tired of carrying a heavy laptop?
Previously I carried my Sager NP8150-S1 every single day on weekdays for work, it does feels heavy, but still bearable.

Now already changed to a lightweight one, since I don't game much as before.
Definitely feel the difference. thumbup.gif

How heavy is your previous NP8150? My context of traveling is from Malaysia to oversea and vice versa. Once reaching Malaysia or oversea - which the place I study, my laptop is basically gonna sit there till the next holiday where I back to Malaysia.

Most probably not SLi-capable laptop this time. Using one currently and the fact that there are tonnes of single GPU out there better than my SLi-configured laptop hurts me lol. But that's technologies, moving forward everyday, hence the term of no future-proof in this field. Previously I am siding to ATi 7970 but guess in the long run (if pocket thick enough), GTX680M much worth it in my personal opinion.

Side question - how good is Sager warranty? That's the major point too besides its cheaper price.

In that case, weight shouldn't be much of an issue I guess, since you only carry it couple of times in a year.
Actually I still have my NP8150, turning it into a home desktop instead of selling it. laugh.gif
The laptop alone weight around 3.1kg, while the adapter I think is almost 1kg.
I don't think you will have any issue at all carrying it around in a backpack once a while in a year. Coz I've been doing that 4-5 times in a year on a business trip.
I'm also currently deciding whether to upgrade my 6970M to a 7970M or not next month, GTX680M haven't cross my mind, but who knows. tongue.gif

As for the warranty, to be honest, it is quite bad due to the 3rd parties or reseller process.
The reseller will have to arrange the shipment. Thus they will usually go for the cheapest one, where it will take a very long process.
I have sent my laptop once because of the bad batch of the 6970M, so they replace the GPU(but still need to send the whole laptop just in case its not the GPU).
Actually once my laptop arrived at Sager, it took them about 1 day only to get the repair/replacement done.
In the end, the whole process took almost 1 month to repair my laptop, but that is because I decided to pay the reseller extra so that they can use better and faster shipment.
It will definitely be a longer process if I didn't pay the extra cost.

Conclusion is, it is up to which reseller you're going to purchase yours from.
I bought mine from Mucro Singapore.

During my first and second year, I did carry it on my backpack which round 6KG. But lately I am too tired to bring it as my hand luggage. Maybe changing from M17x to 15" Sager would be a sweet "upgrade" this time, idk.

Man, 1 month for GPU replacement? shocking.gif I could have that process completed averagely within 3 days flat by Dell Malaysia. Maybe illGear might provide better after-sales service as they are stationed locally but yeah, I am too pampered by Dell after all these years... sweat.gif

Anyway it's a very serious aspect when choosing since we will use this expensive piece of gaming machine not for only one year.

A kit for the Sager is around RM1.5k - RM1.7k. Forgot the actual price.

My previous plan was to upgrade my laptop to a 7970M, but afterwards decided to sell my laptop and wait for a next generation GPU around early or mid next year and go ahead with that instead since I can still fill my gaming needs on my Sony Vaio.

NOW since I might have to sell my laptop at a very low price, I have this slight decision that I might actually keep my laptop and hoping that the next gen GPU can be fitted or just get a GTX680M when it is cheaper next year.

Haih... Technology... sweat.gif

The GT630M is a rebadged GT540M with faster clock speeds.

Don't be too worried, Lollipop Chainsaw is an Unreal Engine 3 game. Afaik, the scaling on the Unreal Engine is very very decent for PCs.

I will own Y580 somewhere later next week.. I want to overclock GTX 660M according to guide from internet( I'm a computer technician though).. my target is to match with GTX 675M of course with stable volt and less heat.. do you think I should go for it?

i'm gonna get a lenovo g480 5935-3823 with gt 635m.
apparently there are more than 1 version of the 635m.
one is the gf108 and the other the newer fermi gf116.
why nvidia? why?
lenovo is being vague as ever.

anyone knows which one is on the g480?

//update
i went to digitall mall and take a look.
they conveniently had gpu-z installed.
the 635m in the g480 are gf108 with 96 shaders.
nope. getting amd instead.

Always go for single GPU if the performance difference is not that much.

I am mobile-SLi user and I found the scaling is not as effective as the cost needed.

Next setup will be single monster GPU. Better that way.

1. not necessarily... my desktop's integrated GPU actually died... tongue.gif

but on the other hand, my old 4yr laptop's dedicated GPU has yet to die, albeit all the games that i play...

2. yes for AMD, in the form of APU (Accelerated processing unit)... look for AMD A-series APU... they ve great graphic (up to double the performance of Intel HD 4000), but lacks in raw CPU performance... still, a great choice for budget gamers...

for Nvidia, ever since AMD started producing their own motherboard and Intel revoked their rights to produce DMI-based motherboard, they stepped out of the integrated graphic market completely...

So little choice for AMD in mobile landscape. The only A10 I came across in Malaysia is a HP Pavillion. If only the brands brought in more line up, we could have real alternatives to those i5-3210M thingy.

IMO, they should skip on the value and mainstream market for dGPU and focus more on Gaming and their APU lineup.

Their driver is good most of the time for me. blush.gif

Latest stable driver on Oct 22 has address lots of issue. Newer beta driver are available.
7970M is about GTX675MX price level. Personally I think 7970M has more upside from driver improvement.
If you have the money, go for GTX680M, still the single mobile GPU king (well until you see GTX680MX) laugh.gif But you pay through the nose for it.

How about dual GTX670MX vs Xfire 7970M? I was planning to take illgear's RX17 cuz I wanted to play Crysis 3 next year with Max settings. Or if you have any suggestions, I am all ears.

Crysis 3 is using the same CryEngine 3 as in Crysis 2.
Single GTX680M or 7970M can play Crysis 2 at FHD high setting.
xfire 7970M can handle Crysis 2 at max handily, can't see why it can't handle Crysis 3.

Why don't you check with the "others" and see if they still have the "problems" after the latest drivers? icon_rolleyes.gif
Yes, having Enduro impact performance slightly (~ 5% from what I read), similarly faced by Nvidia with Optimus.

I would highly recommend you to stay away from the 7970m for the time being, if you insist on getting one, get an alienware or a machine that natively uses the 7970m, with no switch-able gpus.

After more extensive research in notebookreview's forum, the problem with 7970m is definitely there for laptops that have switchable gpus(excluding alienwares due to the fact that you can disable them in the bios)

I have gone with ordering the 680m mxm to replace my 670m. Its a pity for my case since the 7970m really seemed to be worth it at first sight.

Read this sneak peek into the performance of IGPU in Haswell.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6600/intel-h...geforce-gt-650m
We know Intel IGPU always scale with CPU (e.g. for ivy bridge, HD4000 of i7 run faster than i3).
But man, Haswell GT3 IGPU "in mobile reference board" run Dirt3 close to GT650M "subjectively" in 1080p? I am a bit skeptical tongue.gif
But for perspective, to run Dirt3 in 1080p, we need GT630M at least.
This could get very interesting for those "high end ultrabook" that can't run game now laugh.gif

Some benchmark on the 8730M. Hang well in between GT630M and GT640M.
That mean the 8750M in the Envy4-1204TX is pretty good value rclxms.gif

Guys, is the Nvidia SLI Configuration good? I've heard people said that it is not supported by most of the games, and it's a gamble because the driver for SLI configuration development is very slow?

Please see here for full list of games that support SLI.
Nvidia don't release separate driver for SLI, it's all part of its normal driver updates.
Users who bought SLI components (which utilise the top end GPU) tends to be the most vocal in their complaints. Guess who Nvidia will entertain first? smile.gif

GT635M was a rebadged of GT555M. Technically both is still GT555M since there is 4 variants of GT555M. laugh.gif

That "faked" GT635M with 96SP was use in previous Lenovo Y570 as GT555M.

Maybe still early to judge on the results.
Could be drivers or throttling issues.

GT730M is basically a rebadge of GT640M/GT645M.. with higher base clock. Performance probably between GT645M and GT650M DDR3. hmm.gif

If you are buying in a hurry, you can just go for any notebook with GT650M since the performance difference is not that significant icon_rolleyes.gif
If you can wait, then definitely wait for Haswell, and possibly a newer generation of GPUs from AMD and Nvidia~

GCN is a better choice for general computing compare to Kepler but bitmining with a laptop? I don't think a "regular" laptop can withstand it 24/7.

Interesting articles in Anandtech comparing graphic performance of different tablet platforms.

And this one show that the current hign end tablet platforms probably can match GPU from 2006 laugh.gif

Any ideas or speculations on how the upcoming Haswell's integrated graphics, presumable Intel HD8000, will compare to the current crop of dedicated graphics cards? Do you think it will be at least as good as say, a mid range Nvidia card from 2011/2012?

This one would be the Intel GT3e version (quad core 55W TDP)?

Yup, and obviously it will scale according to CPU rank/power consumptions so expect much lower performance on ULV proc.

If the Haswell's gt3 is really that good, would it be wise to postpone buying a gt 640m equipped laptop in favour of waiting for the Haswell laptops?

Haswell IGPU has different flavour. The most powerful IGPU in Haswell most probably will only come with the high end Haswell chip, and it is also likely that Haswell ULV chip will carry the less powerful IGPU.

Anyway, Nvidia GT740M will still most probably beat/match any flavour of Haswell IGPU, and laptop with GT740M is pretty cheap anyway. There are even some good deal with GT750M biggrin.gif

If you are looking for gaming laptop, don't bother to wait for Haswell, unless you want the better battery performance.

If you are looking for ultrabook without discrete GPU, and not in a hurry to get it, probably should wait.

The IGPU in Haswell is called Iris 5100 (GT3 28W, in 4th gen i7 ULT) and Iris Pro 5200 (GT3e, only 4th gen quad core);
HD 4200 / 4400 / 4600 / (GT2), HD 5000 (GT3 15W, can be found in ultrabook 4th gen ULT ).

Get a laptop with a bigger and thicker chassis for more room for the CPU and GPU heatsinks and also bigger vents to disperse all those generated heat.

Hope Haswell CPU architecture would come very soon, faster performance and lower TDP, hence you can expect cooler operations.

do u have any suggestion laptop with those criteria?

yeah hope Hasswell can be a green tech for us. less heat less energy big performance.
i really appreciate 2 way GPU in my lappy. only switch to NVIDIA gpu during gaming so i can make my lappy less heat.

I would personally recommend Illegear (Sager) or Alienware.

Both are very good at doing what they do best - a gaming laptop.
