Looks like Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.

One rack and 2 floor toms? Normally I see 2 rack and and 1 Floor.

Was at Ikea today and bought a piece of rug. Didn't wanna set up the drums first and then buy the rug tongue.gif

Me and my wife went to scout around for some cymbals yesterday. Was at Ultimate Music, I was keen on the Stagg SH set [Bronze], but they did not have stock for them. Ken recommended the DXK set for RM890, my wife liked the sound of the cymbals. It's obviously brighter than the SH. But the thing is it is Brass.

JS has their J Basic cymbals. But I don't know how they sound.

Then, today at IPC we saw Meinl HCS going for RM800 and Sabian AAX set for RM3780  shocking.gif

Whats the best-bang-for-the-buck-cymbals under RM1k?  icon_question.gif

AAX are considered pro level cymbals, hence the obvious difference in price.

As you are starting out, probably can opt for the B8 pros from Sabian; not sure if it's less than 1k tho.

If you decide to seriously proceed down this path you can upgrade later on. Some people may lose interest later on and find that they have a bunch of expensive gear that they need to sell at a low price. But if you can sustain your love for drumming you'll prob know enough by that time to decide what you want with regards to cymbals, skins, etc, but this instrument can get really expensive - really quickly, especially if you've are infected with GAS aka gear acquisition syndrome.

Also, trust your ears, if you like the sound of the cymbal who cares if it's brass? As long as it sounds good to you.

One rack and two floor toms. smile.gif Different drummers have their own preferences. Usually I play with no rack and two floors, but I needed a rack for this show..
Under RM1k? With discount, I'd suggest the Sabian B8 set.

And yes, the Sabian cymbals were mine, the Zildjians were with the house kit. More photos coming up on my Facebook shortly!

Oh, and there was an guy who worked with MTV there... (hint hint). brows.gif rclxm9.gif

If I'm not mistaken, B8 is retailed at RM1699. Don't think it can go down to under rm1k after discount.

I usually see a lot of jazz players played with one Tom setting. Coz they'll have to constantly swing on the ride. Except travis barker who uses one Tom setting.

A lot of rock/metal players now play with just one rack and one floor. You can play most thing with that set up already. smile.gif And its easy to setup and carry around.

And anyway, here's a bit more eyecandy from tonight's show. Everything else is on Facebook. HAHA.

I agree, there's something special and clean about a 4-piece setup. Not to mention it demands more creativity to play a 4-piece setup IMO.

I find it hard to play on a 5 piece set already after getting accustomed to the 6 piece on an ImperialStar. Drop to 4 piece I lagi rclxub.gif.

Wouldn't you guys feel that a 4 piece is too limited? Like ^ said you'll require more creativity.

Isaac you guys look quite young. I would say around 19 or so? hmm.gif I'm personally in a band too but I've only played 3 gigs so far. And that's in the span of a year or so doh.gif. Not much things like this in Ipoh I guess. There was a live band club around my area recently but it was shut down due to lack of business(Also that particular lot is known to be haunted).
The only live band club I've seen which is quite successful is a Jazz bistro nearby my area too. Played there once. Not suited for our type of music due to the setup and size of the place + the mics gain was too low. I'm not the drummer for my band though biggrin.gif

If you get a chance, try a four-piece setup, you'll be surprised at how much fun you can have. And it will help in your playing if you decide to revert back to larger setups.

Less is more, except for cymbals...smile.gif

i agree 4 is better although i never tried it myself. but i think beginner drummer should learn the normal 5 piece first before reducing it to 4

I used to play a 7 piece setup. When I started gigging, and had to start carrying my kit around, I decided to downsize my kit, and it works for me smile.gif I just finished my SPM. HAHA.

Me and my wife decided to go with the Stagg DXK cymbal set. It's a brass set but it's clear and bright. We didn't wanna spend too much on our first set of cymbals. We don't know whether we are gonna crack it in the first few months tongue.gif

Brass is more durable than bronze. Even with bronze cymbals, you shouldn't be cracking it if you have the proper habit/technique. So if you can crack a brass cymbal... well... :S

Hello fellow drummers! smile.gif Just a 16 year old self taught drummer, been playing drums for about 2 years and a half now and just wanted to share some of my drum covers. I posted a few weeks back, but i finally uploaded the covers on youtube. I'm using an electronic Yamaha DTXpress IV drumset.

Born of Osiris - Abstract Art Drum Cover (For anyone who likes metal, check this band out, they have some really complex drum beats)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxxARRV8EIU

System of A Down - Toxicity Drum Cover (I'm sure most people know this song, haha)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJn98KcmI3I

Any constructive criticism is welcome! And happy drumming biggrin.gif

Circumstances bro. Not everyone has the same circumstances. Also, it depends on the place you're living in too. If its particularly damp, that can play a part too.

I think durability works for us for the time being while we learn drumming. The PDP Concept is already an overkill tongue.gif We can screw the heads and replace 'em later with evans. But the Cymbals will have to stay. It's too costly to have to replace Zildjian A/A customs, Sabians HHX or Istanbul Sultans.
