Welcome to this section and hope you will stay a while.
Mind telling where you bought your drums and how much? Any photos of your setup?

I am quite new here too. tongue.gif

Its actually a second hand set. Owner shifting to KL and he doesn't want to bring it along. He bought it from Ebony for an undisclosed price but I got it for 1.8k with a set of solar cymbals
I'll go take a photo later biggrin.gif.

Also, is anyone here interested in a set of drum microphones? Here's a link to my thread. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2620945

Hey! I played on a Tama RhythmMate last night at The Pool, KL with Hardcandy. It was a fun gig, to say the least smile.gif Didn't take pictures of the setup, but there will be photos up soon of the show.

I'm leaving for Hard Rock Cafe, for my soundcheck for my show tonight there, in about fifteen minutes. Will take pictures of the setup there this time, I promise. wink.gif HAHA.

biggrin.gif. You do shows on a nightly basis? What kind of shows do you do?. I forgot to take a picture and my room is occupied by my brother now doh.gif I swear I'll get a picture by today.

Also, my neighbour is kind of complaining about the noise I make. Can you guys teach me basic techniques for reducing escaped sound?

Zildjian K custom? hmm.gif

I agree with your choice of getting a rug before a drum set.

I made that mistake biggrin.gif My bass drum moves all the time now when i step a little harder.

When do you guys start going into double pedal? I mostly play hard rock, rock and metal so I find a pair of double pedals being essential.

I tried songs like Sugar We're Going Down Swinging and it still seems a little too hard on a single pedal. I also have trouble maintaining my hi-hat's speed when i tap my pedal too quickly, Well that IS a beginners problem as I've only started drumming about 2 months ago(in my friend's house with his Tama ImperialStar).

But, I find it easy to maintain my speed with double pedals as I've played with them almost since the first time i touched actual drums. Any insight? hmm.gif

I find it hard to play on a 5 piece set already after getting accustomed to the 6 piece on an ImperialStar. Drop to 4 piece I lagi rclxub.gif.

Wouldn't you guys feel that a 4 piece is too limited? Like ^ said you'll require more creativity.

Isaac you guys look quite young. I would say around 19 or so? hmm.gif I'm personally in a band too but I've only played 3 gigs so far. And that's in the span of a year or so doh.gif. Not much things like this in Ipoh I guess. There was a live band club around my area recently but it was shut down due to lack of business(Also that particular lot is known to be haunted).
The only live band club I've seen which is quite successful is a Jazz bistro nearby my area too. Played there once. Not suited for our type of music due to the setup and size of the place + the mics gain was too low. I'm not the drummer for my band though biggrin.gif

Yup. Agree with subber. If u can afford Yamaha dtx, u can afford a good teacher. Learn the basics, get the foundation right. Till u r good enough to learn by ur own..

What's ur budget for a drumset? U wanna go for acoustic or electric drums? U see, I have a drummer and a guitarist friend. Very good in drumming and guitar playing but can't play drummania and guitar hero. They r totally diff thing.
*
Haha. I have a few of these friends too.

I'm a kinda good guitar player(started only last year, but according to a teacher of my friend I'm quite talented hmm.gif) and I'm a huge gamer. Especially rhythm/music games like o2jam haha. Finished every song on expert in GH3 lol. Not much now though.

They're totally different things. As for drummania, the beats and timing don't match with the song itself. Its usually slower. Confusing as hell.

I think a good player and good sound engineer will produce a great sound. They can complement each other.

A bad player will still be a bad player even with an excellent sound engineer, the sound engineer can make the drums sound good, but not the drummer - big difference there IMO.

A badly tuned drum can sound better with a good sound engineer.

Actually most of the stuff can be arranged so a good sound engineer can fix most parts. Not the drummer itself of course. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(cyberixus @ Jan 17 2013, 10:58 AM)
I had that budget in mind when I was going about sourcing for a drum set. My suggestion will be PDP Z5 which I think you might be able to get for less than RM2k.
And then Stagg DXK cymbal set which I think would fit the budget nicely. Should be less than RM1k.

CAVEAT:But know that the shells are poplar and the cymbals are brass. In time as your friend progress, he/she will be thinking of changing the drum heads, changing the brass cymbals to bronze ones and upgrading the drum set.

I would have been happy with the Z5 and brass cymbals had I not learnt about poplar shells, birch shells, maple shells; and then there is bubinga and and some other obscure wood from some forsaken land far far away. I figured that in the future there will most probably be changing of drum heads and then replacing the cymbals. But the drum set stays. So it figures for me to get a better drum set. That was how I ended up spending above my budget and got the 5 piece PDP Concept Maple series.

My wife is very happy with the purchase. Our drum set at home sounded much better than the one she plays at the music centre where she goes for her drum lessons tongue.gif

Another factor for the purchase was that she fell in love with the white finishing of the drum set. It was the best looking white drum set out there tongue.gif LOL

CAVEAT: I bought our drum set less than a month ago. You might want a second opinion from other drummers here who are more experienced.
*
Thanks for the feedback smile.gif

Seems like he's sorta dangling between getting a set now or not.

Judging from your pictures, your PDP set does look astonishing in white. I would've opted for a white set of the rhythm mate if there was one too tongue.gif Wanted to go for the blue(my other fav colour).

But honestly speaking, does the drum head you use actually affect the accent, quality and audible decible of the drum? My set came with Evans heads. But it's also slightly out of tuned for reasons unknown. And as far as my sister or I know, there isn't a drum tuner in ipoh.

Kind of shaky in terms of wanting to explore how to tune it myself and wouldn't i need a drum dial? hmm.gif

Nice to hear that your wife goes for drum lessons tongue.gif Perhaps you can post a video of you jamming with her.
