Greetings guys,
im newbie and relly total noob..and im going to set up a shrimp tank... need lots of help and advice for many things..so sorry for the wrong words.. my question is how small the tank can be..cos the room spot that im going to put the tank is too narrow..the max tank size i think can put there is 1 feet wide, 2-3 feet long, 1.5 height.. second question is that my working place is at genting highlands and the altitude and cold weather..can these shrimp tahan these kind of cold? the water temp can get almost 5 celcius at cold season..2 years ago my friend guppy died after 5 days of rain and wind and the room temp is about reach 10 celcius.. do i need a water heater or what they called that..the-water-maintain-temp-device called? enough question for now..lol thanks and cheerss.. |

QUOTE(Hantu641 @ Jun 2 2012, 12:15 PM) Greetings guys, the max tank size that match your space is 3ft tank at 90cm(L) x 45cm(w) x 45cm(h). Since you are noob im newbie and relly total noob..and im going to set up a shrimp tank... need lots of help and advice for many things..so sorry for the wrong words.. my question is how small the tank can be..cos the room spot that im going to put the tank is too narrow..the max tank size i think can put there is 1 feet wide, 2-3 feet long, 1.5 height.. second question is that my working place is at genting highlands and the altitude and cold weather..can these shrimp tahan these kind of cold? the water temp can get almost 5 celcius at cold season..2 years ago my friend guppy died after 5 days of rain and wind and the room temp is about reach 10 celcius.. do i need a water heater or what they called that..the-water-maintain-temp-device called? enough question for now..lol thanks and cheerss.. 2ft tank to start with, but the choice is yours. Temp can get 5'C then a heater is needed else you can some shrimps Sashimi every night. It is a blessing for you to have such cold weather (no chiller ever needed , just need a heater) Basic/essential things you need: Tank Soil(Substrate) - just sand or any shrimp soil(recommended) / ADA soil. Air pump Canister filter(recommended) or basic Hang on back filter Aquarium Light set Heater Shrimps food/water conditioner You know about tank cycling ? if no, then read here before you start buying shrimps http://www.oscarfishlover.com/helpful-arti...ing-an-aquarium http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/begin-cycling.html A cycled tank is required before shrimp/fish can be introduce into new tank. What is your projected budget ? Note: keeping shrimps is not as simple as keeping guppies/fish. This post has been edited by arrow: Jun 2 2012, 01:31 PM |

Note: keeping shrimps is not as simple as keeping guppies/fish. just now just chit chat with some friends that they have friend that can make custom made tank and with cheap price too..but not those that fancy tank..just normal 1.. heater can get free as someone gonna donate for me..also with filter..but all are cheapo things only..and my friend never tried with shrimp, so they dun know much.. already read the articles, and basically im gonna need to set-up guppy tank 1st before add the shrimp... need to watch the water for ph and ammonia and nitrate..and temp also..since i dun wat to eat colorful prawn for my dinner every night.. 1 more question, do i need Co2 for shrimp?? i know it not for shrimp but im going to put some moss inside, do its really important? .. |

shrimp tank does not need co2 since moss can grow just as fine without it, unless ure going to make a full planted shrimp tank, thats a different scenario.
btw, why use guppy tank? you'll end up regretting like me just my suggestion. |

PH the soil can have buffer , but it depend on your tap water as well , but worse to worse there is still RO water and maybe some ice cool mountain water from genting hill. In order to watch PH , ammonia , nitrite & nitrate , you need test kit. API master test kit for freshwater is good to srat with but cost you around RM100++ but it is cheaper then buy individual test kit and can last very long. |
