Yes got blue velvet at special price as i came from far....lol...

If that's the case then it's no wonder why you're willing to go all the way there. Haha...perhaps one day price might reduce, or you could breed it and sell it to us here at a better price biggrin.gif

That's nice. Good you got a good deal on those. Speaking of which I just had my first shrimp death tonight... down to 9 now. Was a nice red male... sad.gif

Brightest of the lot, rest are darker red:

I had my regular wc too yesterday, buy doubt it's coz of that. Think it's just an isolated case as rest are still active this morning.

Perhaps it's just hiding somewhere,as my malayans like to hide in d rocks especially when lights are on.

Can't further monitor till this Sat as I'm flying off soon sad.gif

lot of possibility with shrimps death. Unless you know the actual tank water parameters that your shrimps is coming from, there is still higher risk of shrimps dying while in new tank.
Shrimps journey :
Supplier/Breeders(actual tank) -> Reseller(different water parameters) -> You(again different parameters).
Or
Breeders(Farm) -> Supplier(Different) -> Reseller(Different) -> You(Different).

Shrimps actually under lots of stress and torture before arrive at your tank, that why a well stable shrimps tank will assure faster adjustment and minimum dead.
A stable shrimps tank :
~All glass have green algae fully covered(you can left the front glass clear for viewing),
~Water PH, GH & TDS is consistent.
~Filter and BB is adequate.
~Consistent water change and controlled feeding.
~No time-bomb(ammonia spike associated with certain soil when be disturb)
~Unless your tank is a well established planted tank , CO2 is a big no no for shrimps, it deplete them of O2 and swing the PH.
~and many more.

To be safe, wait till the new shrimps settle at least 2 weeks in your LFS tank before purchase. The initial shrimps dead risk then pass on to the LFS first.
(you face a new risk here though, the risk of having your beloved shrimps be purchase by others). Or try Paid first, reserve but pickup 2 weeks later deal(doubt LFS agree on that as they want to dispose them as quick as possible and they need to replace the dead shrimp you reserve).

Usually how many shrimps can be kept in a 1ft planted tank?
When we bring back the shrimps from LFS, how to acclimate new shrimps before drop them into our tank?

i keep > 50 tails in an 25cm x 30cm x 25cm tank.
Use drip method -> http://www.shrimpnow.com/content.php/258-A...matising-Shrimp
Its wise to invest in a TDS pen, as TDS play a big role in shrimps molting failure as GH.

yes , shrimps need calcium and iron, they can get it from food like spinach or supplement , human calcium tablets may not seem tasty for them and don't what else they add inside the tablets that may harm shrimps.
Shrimps food like benibachi golden food are high in calcium and protein.
