How often your office doing maintenance?  since your tank is small.  Remove 50% water and try to bring them home next time. You may add in some Boraras brigittae fish in it. They make good shrimps companion. They won't touch your Shrimplet even smaller palmata baby.
*
Not easy to find boraras brigittae here in Klang Valley. Had only seen it once & that was @ East Aqua @ Ikano, only 2 on display tank.

Any idea which lfs would usually re-stock it often?

Edit: Got myself d API freshwater master test kit, along with API KH & Sera GH test kits. Low ph shows 6.4 & high ph lesser than detected. KH was 0-3 (wasn't sure), but the GH test kit has gotten me confused as it just stays orangy/brownish & not turning green. Has anyone tested their tap water parameters before? Didn't realize our tap water's so soft.

Did some google & it seems I'm not the only one having prob with Sera's GH test kit. Has anyone had similar findings/issues?

Boraras. Brigittae are seasonal fish, KL supplier only import once or twice per year from Indonesia. The last shipment was few mths ago. So you either have to wait till year end or next year for new shipments.  that why I bought 50 of them while available.
I'm using Sera gh test kit as well. Just continue drop and swing the bottle after every drop till it turn to green. Every drop  till it turn green is consider one GH.
One of my tank have GH of 12 . So till drop no 12 only it turn green. If yours dont turn green after like 15 drop. Then try test it with bottled mineral water.
Also did you check the expire date of the sera GH test kit?
*
Ya that what I was told. Hope to get some when there's a next re-stock of it.

Expiry date states 01/2016 iirc. Did tried up to 20+ drops, maintained brownish-like. Doubt it's true. Will give it a try again on mineral water sometime or when I fill up my tank, just to see if there's any diff.

Awww... too bad then. Oh well... biggrin.gif

Well checked on the Sera GH test kit, expiry date is on 01/2015 and not 2016. Hope it works eventually and not a faulty one as many have encountered...

All Shrimps lover , my friends shop(KL reseller) will have the Breeders & Keepers Shrimp Magazine Vol. 1(release in June) coming in this week. Limited stock. RM53.90 each(nett)(English version). PM me if like to have one.

more info of the magazine ->

For one that has not even flooded the tank yet, I find this mag to be very informative. Questions asked by Chris to those breeders are (although) basic/straightforward it does cover the necessary information and insight on how those breeders breed their precious shrimps.

There would be, I believe, different water parameters in Europe and Malaysia - so we here would just have to see what works best even though it's of the same species but 'Made in Malaysia' instead and take those stated in the mag as a guidance.

Overall am impressed with the kinda information available, and the sharing of information and advice from individual breeders. Those of you that are into breeding your shrimps, this would be a good one to have/read. Personal opinion: All is good, but paper quality could've been better.

And not forgetting to mention that arrow bro here does a speedy and helluva good job in packing it nicely for courier. Thanks much! thumbup.gif

Thx. Mate. Glad you like magazine.
The personal encounter of trial and errors of each of the breeders, coupled with way of tackling the problems really help us new keepers N breeders.
For those who's are not into shrimps yet. Its a good read on why we are so fasnicated by those creatures.

Likewise wink.gif

Just curious though, how many of you here actually mix a few species/variant in a single tank? Even on some sites I've came across those tanks that have e.g 2 or more variants of Neocaridina & Caridina on it. I know those in same species will cross breed... but there are those that would not even though its of the same species? E.g blue jelly + orange shrimp

This how I test those new foods and plants before introduce to the tank.
I'm testing a new organic spinach I bought from tesco.
*
So all you did was to wash the spinach then let those 2 'guinea pigs' try it out in a separate tub? Does it have to be frozen if you're keeping it for a couple of days or so prior to feeding?

Can't see your survivors... tongue.gif Nice layout btw.... and that thermometer... that's a pretty big one for your pico tank.

If that the UP Aqua fan? If yes, what speed you usually have it on? Although it's good I find it to be kinda noisy @ full blast...

I'm happy to report that sniper on the roof's ghetto DIY auto top-off system worked perfectly as designed.

On a side note, leaving the fan on over the weekends (only 1/3 the power) evaporated >1liter from the 8 liter that I have in the tank.  shocking.gif

Wow! That's quite a lot of evaporation going on bro! shocking.gif
Good you have your own DIY ATO system... good job on that thumbup.gif

Speaking of which... anyone here uses/bought those ATO units for their tank? I've only seen JBJ ones in lfs before, but kinda pricey. Any others?

hmm.gif I thought B. Birgittae apart from being known as mosquito rasbora it's also aka chilli? I got it wrong huh? blush.gif

Or cheapest fastest solution, carry your tank home till summer is over tongue.gif. Sad to know your shrimps are dying coz of the heat.
*
The ice probe chiller looks cool... Something I wouldn't mind getting. But installation would be a bummer... I wouldn't wanna drill a hole on my tank. Need to get something that could support it suspended.

Wonder how loud the fan noise is. Anyone here uses / tried it before?

TEC chillers!
Perfect for micro tank up to 1.5ft tank.Since electric should be foc at yr office it shouldnt be a big dif.anyway it uses 55W only.
This unit use hang over filter pump to circulate cool water.Others use portable heat exchanger with external pump.

Guys...

Need your advice/recommendation.

Am contemplating on hooking up a chiller as the UP Aqua fan can't really make it for me...in terms of maintaining the temperature (fluctuates quite a lot) and it's noisy.

Since I've just bought & used the Eheim 2213 I'm hoping not to change the cannister now, so the chiller would have to be able to still perform with it.

Did some search and came across a few that could be suitable:

1) Iceprobe by Coolworks
2) Resun Mini-200
3) Hailea HC100A/130A

Which one of the above would compliment 2213, and at the same time not so noisy? I've got limited space to put a chiller and at the same time particular about noise. Yes, I can be very picky sometimes tongue.gif

Iceprobe looks OK but slightly hassle to hook it up, and not easy to get it w/ temperature controller to be exported to Malaysia, plus it would require a power converter as well since mostly are US version.

I've reduced the media in the cannister (removed 1/2 of default ceramic rings & carbon pad (replaced w/ purigen instead)). This has slightly improved the flow but still not much to the bottom to uproot/move the plants.

Currently still cycling my tank, fighting algae and busy traveling, so have time to do more research.

Anyone here hook up certain chiller to their 2213? Any advice/recommendation on chiller is much appreciated.

Thanks much in advance! thumbup.gif

The normal CPU case fan didn't work for you? I'm using the CoolerMaster 90cfm 19db silent fan.  seems pretty silent to me . can barely hear it unless I place my ear next to it.  Lowers my tank temp by around 2-3 deg
*
I could take out my NoiseBlocker fan from my radiator currently cooling my rig, but then again fan makes evaporation quite high - so it's quite troublesome to topup everyday, and especially more so when I travel often for work. That's why I'm looking into chiller instead, as I won't have to trouble any family member to topup the water everyday. An ATO is not so cheap, and it works better if it's with a sump instead of directly to the tank, IMHO.

QUOTE(arrow @ Aug 21 2013, 02:22 AM)
Yes, I hooked up eheim 2213 to Hailea HS-28A 1/10 hp chiller for 1yrs++ with a 2ft shrimps tank. Flow is below average, but since i don't need high flow with shrimps, i bear with it before clogged hose and stuff reduce flow to pathetic drip and i lazy to clean all those hose, i replace it with eheim 2215 till now.
Noise only when power-up to start chilling when temp. raise above preferred temperature.
I have an Resun CL-650 too.
Hailea is known to be quieter than a Resun anytime.
You may want to get Hailea HS-28A since the price different is like RM200++ then a old model HC100A/130A.
*
OK, thanks much for the input bro. Glad to know it works with Hailea HS-28A albeit the low flow. Just hoping to *preferably* get to utilize the 2213 before upgrading. But then again, worse case scenario would be to sell it off and get a 2215 or something better.

Read that HS-28A is a replacement for HC-150a and runs quieter, so glad you can verify that it runs quietly too. Where did you get your HS-28A and estimated pricing for it? Haven't seen it in the LFS I went to..... usually it's the other HC models that's more common.

So basically with Eheim 2215 and HS-28A you have no issues with flowrate? Are you using the spray bar or lily pipe?

If only the Eheim pro3e types have a smaller version... that would be great! biggrin.gif drool.gif

HS-28A , you can get it slightly under RM1k if the shop is doing offer, market price is like below RM1.2k.
East aqua , 88 petsmart , NA ss19 should have, if not they can order for you.
Eheim 2215 perform well with HS-28A, flowrate is good, if 2215 not enough then up to eheim 2217 , just that 2217 Intake tube is 16mm/22mm (inside/outside diameter)  Output tube is 12mm/16mm. Will look weird in your small tank , it look prefect in my 3ft.

Currently i'm using the spray bar with 2215 and i remove the spray bar end cap to further reduce the flow.
Lily pipe i have but not using cos it just may create hurricane in my shrimps tank.

Ok,thanks much again for the valuable input. Shall check it out when I'm back in KL. smile.gif
