Dun worry Kh 6 and gh 9 can still keep cherry.
Just not that suitable for crs.
Wc 10~15% every one or 2 week is ok. If you have lot of plants. They will help absorb excess nitrate.

Haha..as usual thx & appreciate the info bro. Might just itchy backside & try out some lower grade cr/bs next time once tank matures.

Only got enough primed water for 10-15% wc tmrw anyway... Darn d no water supply these 2 days sad.gif

RM10-15? Totally not worth it unless they

1) More effecient than Yamato - Total algae eating machine, doesn't become lazy like Yamato tongue.gif
2) Can breed easily unlike Yamato which needs to be placed in salt water, etc
3) Hardier

Just to add: I googled about them and many said that they are cheaper than Yamato/Amano shrimps?

Algae ? Malaya Boleh!! , those are their snacks.
Hair algae , Staghorn algae , brown algae all Malaya eat and clearing it well better than the battery like lazy yamato.

Your questions:
1) More effecient than Yamato - Total algae eating machine, doesn't become lazy like Yamato tongue.gif
Ans : Yes, it always hungry. I actually regret to temporary house them in my cultivated hair algae tank intended for Sulawesi shrimps setup.
They clear up all the hair algae in one night, the tank is 50cm x 34cm heavy with hair algae. Now can't even find a hair algae seed left to replant sad.gif .

2) Can breed easily unlike Yamato which needs to be placed in salt water, etc
Ans: Yes & No , No, cos they produce larvae , larvae never be easy to feed and keep although malaya do it in full freshwater.
Yes, if you have the patient and space to house a big three to four feet dirty tank that you won't change water and full of algae , planktonic microorganism and lot of floating plants. Like those kind of tank you expose to direct sunlight!!. Have space and heart for one of those tank??

3) Hardier
Ans : Yes if not better than Yamato. But don't expect any shrimps to survive in an un-cycled tank, be logic. Even the supershrimps Opae Ula won't survive that.

4)Just to add: I googled about them and many said that they are cheaper than Yamato/Amano shrimps?

Ans : Yes & No. few years back they are dirt cheap cos can locally harvest in the wild and in abundance, ppl can catch them backyard at river behind their house till they totally vanish in the market due to low price low margin and ppl breed ghost shrimps instead as feeder shrimps.
No, cos i bought some last year at RM15 each before and this early year at RM7 each. Some selller from sabah/sarawak sell them as rm5 to rm6 but with limited stock. Yamato price due to be feature in ADA promote clip and be imported , price stay stable at cheapest rm2.50 till rm4 each.
Like brand power , ppl think of algae eating crew, shrimps will only be yamato , then otto , sae etc.

I added two photo here , photo no.1 show a heavily staghorn & brown algae infested hornwort plant i house in my crs tank.
photo no.2 show the same bunch of hornwort be cleaned off all staghorn & brown algae after i transfer them into the tank i temporary hold malaya,
i do this to show a friend which ask the question how to clear staghorn algae.
p.s , They cleared this staghorn algae even after they just finish devour 2 big pcs of spinach leaf.

If you want some Malaya and their price , pm me. I helping a friend to letting some off.

Yes, if seller don't know this shrimps value treat it a little higher than a ghost shrimps.
No, It work and look better then a yamato without the negative aspect, expect higher price than a cherry.
No, when Demand > supply, price may up up up.

Thanks arrow notworthy.gif

Just a few questions:

1) As I do not have any extra tank, am I able to breed Malayan shrimps in my 30cm planted tank? (cycled, planted tank, background plants, high water flow rate, 6 guppies)

2) How many would I need for my tank? As the price difference between Malayan and Yamato shrimps is quite large, I'm still deciding hmm.gif

3) PM me the price of the Malayan shrimps. Hopefully your friend is in KL/PJ/SJ smile.gif

Ans:

1) NO, tank too small and too clean , high flow rate is no-no, larvae is free floating and quite fragile , and guppy will just grope them as snack.

2)Got algae, as many as you want , more = more mouth = faster job done ? Malaya price is alot cheaper now but don't know when they bounce back.

3)The shrimps now house in my tank, that why i temporary house them in my hair algae farm tank(now 'habis' like Chinese saying 'one hair also don't have)

pm you soon b4 i sleep.

Ya have read that thanks. Have about 3+ltr primed before this incident so should be ok.

Even though I've got 1 main filter & RO dispenser...not gonna take the risk as well. Guess you're affected too?

Have to do my wc now & today before going off tmrw onwards.

Went to Nilufar, bought one tiger nerite snail, RM2.20 each, Penang selling RM5... Put it in a small mineral water bottle to hand carry on the flight later. They don't have much shrimps there... Going to Garden later maybe will check out East Aqua... In general fishes in PG cheaper but snails and shrimps more expensive...

Wanna seek advise over here. I found information that Yamato's requires different water parameters for the shrimplets. However, there are also instances whereby the shrimplets are safe on freshwater. Has anyone bred them on freshwater alone before?
*
Heard they dont breed in a tank. They need the river water...maybe like salmon...lol
