as for moss, you can have a cheapo shrimp-safe soil.
no need to go for ADA... can save almost rm50 there. and i dont think you'll be needed an algae crew as you only have a low light plant. just my 20cent.. please correct me if i'm wrong |

QUOTE(r3apers @ Jul 4 2012, 03:13 PM) shrimp soil for shrimp.planted tank soil for plant. shrimp soil more focus to shrimp need.that's all. but, if you like to have a healthy plants and good shrimps, u use amazonia soil. but the problem is, the soil will be stable in 3month time and above. but the result is the best so far.and the soil is cheap in price. although moss need no substrate to grow, but water parameter does. bacteria colony will build up in the soil other than the filter.so, good soil and long lasting one is my recommendation since we not setup for just 6month. but maybe 1year or 2 or above that period.summore our first shrimp tank. so much nostalgia one.huhuAdded on July 4, 2012, 3:23 pm QUOTE(kimimaro_kun @ Jul 4 2012, 03:17 PM) owh, thanks for the head up. yes bro. long lasting.huhu. better buy the reliable and ideal in price than buying the cheap but giving headache soon.huhume myself on the planning on getting those cheapo soil.. so, better go for shrimp soil or ADA 1??? where is sifu arrow when we need him?
you can use holland sand (waterfall sand what did you guys call just now) for base. i already try lorr...shrimp live like normal..nothing happen..just their color not red enough...even NA have tank using holland sand and keep red cherry in it. the darker soil/sand you put in, it will be more vivid in color. better use shrimp soil. for what purpose we need to use shrimp soil?? - Beneficial bacteria will stay in soil - soil will maintain the pH that it should be. - shrimp will be more striking color. that's the purpose of using shrimp soil. some shrimp need lower pH. some need high pH. so soil will help to maintain the pH that u want. eg. crystal shrimp need lower pH, while sulawesi shrimp need higher pH. if you want to keep red cherry shrimp, its ok to use normal soil. coz they can adapt with variable water parameter (just dont give them shock) |
