Just my personal opinion,
during start up, put yamato, SAE and otto.
then when the tank is stable, you can donate your yamato and SAE to other member. lol.
yamato and SAE is very very good algae eater. you need them when you start your planted tank. Since shrimps is recommended to introduce when your tank has been matured (mostly 1-2 month), you will face much less algae attack issue if you got yamato and SAE helping.
*
err.. wats is SAE? didnt read much in previous post..coz too damn many...haha..

if like this wats tht min size of the tank? if i use for ISTA CO2 set to do planted tank izzit ok or cuztomize co2 better?

Siamese algae eater. dont get confuse with flying fox fish. yamato and SAE is great cleaning crew (when they in small size). what size of tank you want to start?. 2ft is nice already.
*

DW = driftwood.

CO2 system is not recommended for a shrimp tank.. cause shrimp love to have a rich O2 aqua-system..
*
oic... coz flipmode mention moss.. coz as i head moss need co2...

QUOTE(sang gemok @ Jul 4 2012, 12:02 PM)

if you plan to go with moss, then no point on getting ADA Amazonia.
plus you can choose the anubias and fern plant.
low light plant and not require to have CO2.

for LED light, maybe you can contact sisaiko. he's having 50% sale on the 60cm light..
*
ok..will om him whn need it...

QUOTE(sang gemok @ Jul 4 2012, 12:14 PM)
moss need no co2 ler bro. coz they are low demanding plants. nothing is impossible.hehehe. if given the co2, they will be bushy.if not given co2, they will grow slowly. so, better grow slowly rather than seeing your shrimp gasping for air.huhu
*
omg..thn i kena tipu lo... sweat.gif

QUOTE(flipmode @ Jul 4 2012, 12:29 PM)
co2 is a booster to faster growth of moss. it is not compulsory to have it. with sufficient light and cool water temperature, it will grow. you can dose minimal amount of fertilizer (sang gemok is good at this  rclxms.gif ) occasionally.
*
oic...light and temp is the main factor...now i know....

and actully, shrimp soil is same or expensive than ADA.huhu. cheap soil, please ask flipmode what happened to his tank last time. unstable ph.huhu. soon, will burden us.have to buy other soil to replace.huhu

shrimp soil for shrimp.planted tank soil for plant. shrimp soil more focus to shrimp need.that's all. but, if you like to have a healthy plants and good shrimps, u use amazonia soil. but the problem is, the soil will be stable in 3month time and above. but the result is the best so far.and the soil is cheap in price. although moss need no substrate to grow, but water parameter does. bacteria colony will build up in the soil other than the filter.so, good soil and long lasting one is my recommendation since we not setup for just 6month. but maybe 1year or 2 or above that period.summore our first shrimp tank. so much nostalgia one.huhu

Added on July 4, 2012, 3:23 pm

yes bro. long lasting.huhu. better buy the reliable and ideal in price than buying the cheap but giving headache soon.huhu

where is sifu arrow when we need him?  hmm.gif

you can use holland sand (waterfall sand what did you guys call just now) for base. i already try lorr...shrimp live like normal..nothing happen..just their color not red enough...even NA have tank using holland sand and keep red cherry in it.

the darker soil/sand you put in, it will be more vivid in color. better use shrimp soil.

for what purpose we need to use shrimp soil??

- Beneficial bacteria will stay in soil
- soil will maintain the pH that it should be.
- shrimp will be more striking color.

that's the purpose of using shrimp soil.  icon_rolleyes.gif

some shrimp need lower pH. some need high pH. so soil will help to maintain the pH that u want.
eg. crystal shrimp need lower pH, while sulawesi shrimp need higher pH. if you want to keep red cherry shrimp, its ok to use normal soil. coz they can adapt with variable water parameter (just dont give them shock)
*
wah... shrimp also need to maintain ph..alamak... i thought all the same~!

if more than 35'c, confirm cannot cos even water filter pump max operation temp is 35'c(risk of pump failure),
fan only able to cool 2-4'c , so with only that the lowest temp you can achieve with fan is 31'c which is still too high for most/all dwarf shrimps.
*
thts why i looking some material tht can lower the temp...
