actually... only specific batches of E3 that can oc better than E6, and also the other way round

venice oc better than winnie is more significant i should say

steppin is d key for good oc'bility...

ppl tend to think e3 clocks betta than e6 coz most of d users ledi shifted to opty while e6 is launched, so less attemps done. while e3 was available, it's like everybody (most likely budget oc'ers coz not everyone can afford sandy or fx) focusin on it.

i was one of 'em...

Initial o/c with my fren's Opteron 146:

Setup:
AMD Opteron 146
DFI LanParty nF3 Ultra-D
nVidia GF4 Ti4200 64MB
Corsair XMS3200 XLPT (TCCD)
Thermaltake Big Typhoon

Initial trial:
CPU: 10x250, 1.425V
RAM: 250MHz, 2.5-3-3-7, 2.70V
M/B: 250MHz, 3xHTT, 1.75V
Temp :CPU = 49C, System = 45C <--- too hot no ventilation yet

Installed WinXP SP2 without problem, ~15 mins done already. After tat try video playback (XviD), and bugger, it's so freaking smooth when i jump from one screen to another. Open Window Explorer with 0 lag time I cant stop thinking about my upcoming Opty with nF4 Ultra-D liao

other than d oc'ed speed, i believe dat it has something to do w/ d 1MB l2 cache...

Only 250MHz? Set it to 4xHTT.

3x is ok. It wont effect performance. The most important thing is it adds stability

nvm la, i'll js put back to 4x250MHz, since its within specs, it wont affect stability. Although 250MHz also more than enough (he only uses 2x PATA drive), js scared my fren discovered and scold me for downclocking

hmm.. changed from X2 3800+ to opteron 175, i'm impress with the memory performance improvements at default DDR400 3-3-3-8, 1T

my x2 3800+ in sandra memory bench onli can get 4900+ mb

on opteron 175, during sandra bench can get 5500+mb !!! wow

i tot memory controller for both are the same? how does a DC opteron can extract more memory performance than the X2? when then setting for memory is same for both.

the higher the clockspeed, the higher the memory bandwidth
