QUOTE(gestapo @ Jan 6 2006, 01:17 PM) i suppose the AMD64 u meant here is Athlon64. AMD64 actually means the 64-bit technology implemented on AMD K8 processors (opteron, athlon64, sempron64).Well, Opteron of course is better. It's somehow ranked higher than Athlon series processor in market. It might have the same specs and core name as the Athlon64 1MB L2 cache series, but the chip quality might be higher bcoz server needs procs with higher QC. This definitely is an advantage in o/c as u might be able to push the clock speed higher than conventional Athlon64 with same specs This post has been edited by charge-n-go: Jan 8 2006, 05:56 PM |

Initial o/c with my fren's Opteron 146:
Setup: AMD Opteron 146 DFI LanParty nF3 Ultra-D nVidia GF4 Ti4200 64MB Corsair XMS3200 XLPT (TCCD) Thermaltake Big Typhoon Initial trial: CPU: 10x250, 1.425V RAM: 250MHz, 2.5-3-3-7, 2.70V M/B: 250MHz, 3xHTT, 1.75V Temp :CPU = 49C, System = 45C <--- too hot no ventilation yet Installed WinXP SP2 without problem, ~15 mins done already. After tat try video playback (XviD), and bugger, it's so freaking smooth when i jump from one screen to another. Open Window Explorer with 0 lag time |

QUOTE(irenic @ Feb 2 2006, 07:57 PM) lol, no money for dual core.nvm la, i'll js put back to 4x250MHz, since its within specs, it wont affect stability. Although 250MHz also more than enough (he only uses 2x PATA drive), js scared my fren discovered and scold me for downclocking |

New to this club, finally got 3/4 the stuff in my siggies. While waiting for scythe ninja, i tried o/c with stock HSF 1st.
Here's the result: CPU : 2.7GHz (9x300), 1.40Vcore Temp (dual prime95 for 1 hr): CPU : 41C PWM : 42C Chip : 45C I'm sooo impressed with this opty. my AXP is like shit compare to it |

QUOTE(kingmaker_20 @ Apr 21 2006, 11:52 PM) haha, true. I gotta use back the Athlon XP for some CPLD application, bcoz those design kits need to use Parallel port while the stupid Lan Party nF4 tarak ! Yeap, it is 1.40V from BIOS. Anything more than 2.7GHz wont stable in prime95 even if i put VID*104%, so i'll js burn in at 2.7GHz 1st b4 further o/c Now the headache part is RAM timing, always fail the Prime95 test, need more time to try other combinations How's the opty in yr bulk? Any superb o/c gem? |

QUOTE(remysix @ Apr 22 2006, 09:25 PM) u meant prime on large fft?...i oso have the damn prob...proc has no prob on prime, ram on memtest86+ oso has no prob...but so hard to pass prime with large fft...actually my ram is yet to pass that test...even windows with fresh install oso cannot pass...so damn stuck now... i'm using custom Prim95. 1st one set to 8K - 1024K and run in place FFT for my opty. 2nd one is 8K - 4096K with untick "run inplace FFT".So the 2nd one always giving me problem. QUOTE(gengstapo @ Apr 22 2006, 09:33 PM) wahaa.. tot onli me got prob wif opty Bcoz SP2004/Prime95 stresses the most ! mine pass PI 32mb, 3dmark05/06 & pcmark05.. but will BSOD or fReezing when runnin' dual SP2004.. why arr?? any idea?? QUOTE(ahpaul82 @ Apr 22 2006, 10:31 PM) RAM tweaking is the MOST headache and challenging parts... Single core oso enough to die I used around 1month time also havent fine tuned the RAM... Well, now i start from basic, increase 2MHz per time from 200MHz, and slowly see how each timing and voltage affect the stability. It will take me damn long time, but it's fun to see how my RAM perform at different situation This post has been edited by charge-n-go: Apr 22 2006, 10:44 PM |

Which RAM r u using? If BH5 / UTT, u need even numbers (2,4,6,8)
If TCCD, then u need odd numbers (1,3,5,7) The odd numbers are weaker strength, 1 is the weakest and 7 is the near to normal one. Whereas, 2 is the normal one, and 8 is the strongest. So the drive strengths from weak to strong is: 1,3,5,7,2,4,6,8. |

lol, i duno about this. Usually it should be normal drive strength (even numbers). I heard only TCCD likes weak drive strength
Maybe u should start working from level 2, and slowly up to 4,6,8 if still not stable Data drive strength should be set to #1 if u have CPC enabled. |

I hvnt try 3.0GHz, but it seems like 2.7GHz barely stable at 1.4V.
I guess 3.0GHz need pretty high voltage. |

Hmm... i cant get 305x9 stable yet. Maybe tat time the prime failed due to RAM o/c. Will try it later

QUOTE(redbull_y2k @ Apr 24 2006, 12:23 AM) yup, i set it to 1.7v as well altho it's still recommended that u change the chipset heatsink to a better one as well. I think no need to set. May I know what voltage u guys use for CACJE 0607 Opteron 144 for 2.8GHz? My 2.75GHZ (9x306) always lock up the system when running prime for 5 hrs. The vcore is set at 1.425V.
I'm able to go up to 2.73GHz with stock voltage... hmm, wonder y adding 0.02GHz with slight increase of voltage cant work |
