@ xandman - yeah i gotta try harder beyond 5 % praying for miracles.. my budget is really tight...unless i can find a bike shop selling trek with installment plans..then different story

@ snapshots - we just love biking at the end of the day so lets be friends cheers.. and yup have heard abt scott and especially giant..but  i thought they are more pricey. Trek sells the brand.
Personal opinion, for hardtails, look at components instead of frame. Of course, the color is the most important.
Unless it is full sus bike, then, brand and design really matters.

Start buying some magazines like What Mountain Bike... u will know which bike gets best review.

Cheers people. I just thought it is a very unwelcoming for a newbie to come and ask a question here and got thrown off to page 1. Anyway i must say i gave a very rude reply to Anthony and i m sorry.

Well. Just get yourself a bike and join some group for a ride or two. You will slowly develop your "Next Dream Bike" in your mind! I bet!!~ brows.gif

do keep in mind that question like yours did get asked many times if not too much... you can't really blame them from directing you to the 1st page or they will be posting super long explanation and you giving a tldr to them and they get offended end of day..

so, sometimes a vague question is a bit hard to answer...unless you already know what you want and you just want to verify your opinions against the sifus here

give and take bit ...

if you are a die hard trek fan.. i leave the answer to the more experienced sifus...

but in my opinion of comparing across different brands... i would say you are always going to be at the losing ends (price wise) with brands like specialized and trek as they are in the concept store way of doing business... this means that they are license to sell trek and trek only and trek makes sure that they don't get competition from other shops that sells multiple brands..

my point is that you don't get to compare a simillar bike in between 2 shops and nego price and don't forget that you are looking at a 29er which is still not as matured here than other countries.

juz my opinion.

Well said rclxms.gif
Any brand (Giant, Cannondale, Trek, Mirinda, Specialized & etc) are a good brand.
To me.. It is just the matter of personal preference. cool.gif

I guess prime reason of me favouring trek is because trekanology is the 1st bike shop visit. And after some online research it is quite a respectable brand as well. Giant apparently is one class higher than Trek and their bikes are generally more expensive than Trek. But for RM 4500 i tot Trek X-Caliber is a pretty good deal (doubt if any Giant model can rival it at the same price). And also dont know which shop offer real Giant 29er for viewing.

Put it this way, since i live pretty nearby to trekanology, buying a bike from them would make pretty good sense. As i can go there for maintenance and component upgrades in case i need them. PROVIDED rm4500 cannot get me anything better than Trek X-Caliber (regardless of brand of course), since i m pretty tight on budget.

Thanks all the sifus here. U all are quite friendly and really helpful. browsing through the web 10 hours cannot beat surfing through lowyat forums. CHEERS.

thumbup.gif I like ur answer...giant best.
Anyway, be it trek or what other brand... The way u considering the shop location and etc make good sense.

The spec you listed look decent for a first bike... If you like it...then think it is a good first bike. Else u can compare compare a few others and quickly join us riding.
No worries,no matter how u decide, your first bike don't last long if you serious in this activities...you develop ur ideal bike soon
