QUOTE(silvy @ Jan 13 2012, 06:11 PM) 4.5k just to create a storage space for my future bikes? U gotta be kidding me kaizer... i have low income.. I really wish i can afford a full suspension, as opposed to hardtail. But Trek rumblefish (full suspension) cost 9k. SIAO 4.5K can get you a good HT but not a full sus. 4.5K with a stretched budget i think can get you a 29er scott elite. good bike to get you started and 29er's in kiara is just superb. am assuming that you want to ride more of XC and probably aggresive XC. |

QUOTE(chamelion @ Jan 13 2012, 06:37 PM) WAT!!! QUOTE(majorsinbad @ Jan 13 2012, 08:51 PM) It seems like you re not sure of the sports...as with any hobby/sports...its good to start small...unless money aint a problem for you...(something tells me its not...since you live nearby Treknology heheh) so 4.5K is more than enough...usually people start around 2-3K...I started at 3K.... oh.. i read that he lived nearby treknology and i thought money wasn't a problem to him...Once I was convinced about MTBing...only then I invested... Now the only think thats left of the original bike is the frame, stem and handlebar ... Others all I ve changed...and now Im selling my golf set to fund this hobby hahaha It pays to do your research before committing ...google and ask around ... I would recommend getting a hardtail first, 4.5K should get you a good one...Specialized, Giant, Trek or Scott more or less the same..cause each of them would have a model to fit your price range... The difference would be the components...this is where your research would come in handy... In my opinion you should evaluate based on the order: frame-->fork-->groupset-->wheelset Others are neglegible..just my 2 cents...others may have diff opinion See what I mean... yes.. the 3Rs of bike buying, research, re-search your research and research your re-search with other people's research....makes no sense remember, at first bug the people who you have ruled out and will never buy the bike from.. dun piss the fella off that you will eventually buy the bike from... QUOTE(malleus @ Jan 13 2012, 09:35 PM) I used to think that way too, asking myself whether its worth throwing so much money into this hobby. you tell me if i'm sucker... jus my bike computer alone... So I got myself an entry level bike (Raleigh Diablo Pro), a cheap helmet and a small entry level headlight. 2 days later I came back looking for gloves, cause my hands were slippery when I start sweating. 2 weeks later, I came back for cycling shorts. Butt damn pain ler... Next, I came back for a camelbak (kinda annoying having to reach down for the water bottle all the time) and a bike computer (cause its cool!) Next, its time for a new helmet. The cheap ones dun last. Straps coming out dy. So got myself a Fox Flux Next thing I know, its a new bike Splurged on a Trek 6000 Lucky for me, I managed to sell off my old Diablo on BBS within a few days too. Then its a pair of Bontrager gloves (the old ones starting to have holes in the palms) Then its a second pair of cycling shorts and a cycling jersey. Now eyeing carbon seat posts and handlebars And bloody hell, the Trek X-caliber damn poison ler... So.. am I scaring you yet on how much you can potentially spend? 1) cateye velo 8 , wired 2) sigma BC1009 cause the velo8 flown out of the mounting bracket and got ran over by a car 3) some merida wireless meter cause i wanted altimeter function 4) sigma bc2209 STS, cause i thought the merida display characters too small, turn out the sigma lost some altimeter functions i like but gained heart rate 5) sigma rox 8.0, has all the altimeter function, big enough characters and has multi-lines and on top of that data recording which i have no docking station for. 6) possibly a garmin edge 500??? resisting... QUOTE(xandman @ Jan 13 2012, 10:05 PM) SILVY... danger level has been upped from poison to blackhole warning... i know a way to avoid getting into this situation... follow my advice....and u shall be free! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(timothyy @ Jan 13 2012, 10:14 PM) blackhole warning.. too late QUOTE(malleus @ Jan 13 2012, 10:31 PM) Dun forget need to leave aside some cash for good helmet and gloves too well... it is more addictive than sex... or cocaine.. whichever is more addictive...Added on January 13, 2012, 10:33 pmI know of this guy who bought a Raleigh Oakland at about the same time as I got my Diablo. 3 weeks later, he got a Trek 3500 for his wife (yeah right) And now (3 months since the Trek 3500) he's custom building around a Trek 8500 frame. nuts! QUOTE(malleus @ Jan 13 2012, 11:41 PM) Ok now that's extreme that is why you buy health insurance! hello noobie, go buy what MTB mags especially the 1000quid hardtail shootouts and get an idea from there. if not just get an Giant Anthem X... and never upgrade it except the tires, wheels, saddle, brakes, stem (depending on your reach). DO buy full finger gloves and a helmet in the rm300 range coz your life is worth than that and a pair of clear riding glasses to stop trail shrapnel. oh, trek i dunnno, but i like Giant, Specialized and Jamis so you MUST do OWN research to find out what you really like. Do the research and you will enjoy your new ride, if not just dont bother.yah man.. medical bills takes away the money you can otherwise spend on your bike. |
