byond decoder uses both high and low LO(local oscillating) frequencies, currently all SD channels are allocated to low LO, and HD channels to High LO frequency

my guess is that the flat's shared dish usually provide low LO only, and High LO is disabled

so technically if byond is connected to flat's dish, you can still view SD channels

if shared dish does not have device to disable High LO, your byond tuning to HD channel will interfere with other astro viewer watching SD channels, may be that is why your management said byond is not suitable for shared dish

ohh..ya..thx
they using the shared dish...
say if got 30 ppl use beyond only they upgrade.

SPT Networks, Asia's beTV is the New Place to Be

Singapore, 7 March 2012 – Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia, home to leading regional pay-TV channels including AXN, Sony Entertainment Television, Animax and ONE, is rebranding AXN Beyond as beTV across Asia. Beginning 2 April 2012, the new beTV channel will feature an expanded content line-up and a new on- and off-air look and feel, with a channel 'personality' to match.

"We have been broadening the appeal of AXN Beyond by introducing a wider range of programming such as Pan Am, Necessary Roughness and A Gifted Man. Renaming the channel to beTV better reflects the broad general entertainment service that it offers. We believe beTV will soon become the new entertainment 'hang-out' for viewers to relax, laugh, catch up with their favourite characters and shows, or just unwind after a long day," said Mr Ricky Ow, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

A broad slate of fresh light entertainment programming – engaging and easy-to-watch shows – will be added including Rob, Rob Schneider's latest sitcom based loosely on his real-life whirlwind romance and marriage; while reality show I Get That A Lot sets up celebrities like Heidi Klum, Martha Stewart, LeAnn Rimes and Jessica Simpson in everyday jobs such as wait and sales staff, with hidden cameras capturing reactions of unsuspecting customers and passers-by. Scripted favourites such as Everybody Loves Raymond featuring Ray Romano and Touched by an Angel starring Roma Downey and Della Reese will be familiar additions.

beTV viewers can also continue to enjoy returning seasons of some of the best drama series television including Sherlock featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, sci-fi themed shows Teen Wolf and Supernatural, comedy dramas Chuck and How to be a Gentleman, along with medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

beTV will sport a logo and identity in vibrant orange complemented by a set of warm colours to offer an on-air look that is both casual and contemporary. The beTV rebrand will be seen in 15 markets including Brunei, Cambodia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Beyond HD is a special feed for M'sia with separate programming from the Asia Beyond SD feed. No Beyond HD in Asia....hopefully, the new beTV is in HD for the entire Asia. 8-)

Update:
QUOTE
Talks stall on Malaysia tycoon's satellite stake sale-sources

DUBAI/SINGAPORE - Malaysian tycoon Ananda Krishnan's plans to sell a stake in satellite operator MEASAT Global Bhd to Saudi-based Arabsat has stalled over differences on valuation, sources familiar with the matter said.

Krishnan, Malaysia's second richest man, has been looking to sell a stake in MEASAT for several months, but that deal was overshadowed by his plans to offload $3 billion worth of power assets in a bid to shed risky operations.

Initial plans had been for a sale of the entire satellite firm, which operates regional satellite networks and was taken private by Ananda in 2010. A sale of the entire firm may fetch about $500 million.

"MEASAT is looking for a partial exit," one of the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Morgan Stanley is advising MEASAT on the sale or merger with another satellite firm, according to three banking sources aware of the matter.

J.P. Morgan Chase is advising Saudi Arabia-based Arabsat, which is owned by the 21 member states of the Arab League and is the main satellite operator in the Gulf Arab region.

French satellite operator Eutelsat has also been in the running, a second source said.

The sources were not aware if Eutelsat had picked an advisor for the sale.

"Eutelsat has no comment on the speculation around MEASAT," a Eutelsat spokeswoman said.

MEASAT, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan declined to comment. Arabsat officials in Riyadh were not immediately available for comment.

Harvard-educated Ananda started MEASAT in the early 1990s as part of then-prime minister Mahathir Mohammad's plan to boost the southeast Asian country's communications infrastructure and attain developed-nation status by 2020.

The firm is a premium supplier of satellite communication services to leading international broadcasters, direct-to-home platforms and telecom operators, providing satellite services to 145 countries.

Arabsat carries over 400 TV channels and 160 radio stations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central Asia.

Krishnan, reckoned by Forbes to have assets of $9.5 billion, was taking advantage of the higher risk appetite in the market to hive off riskier assets from his empire that runs from telecoms to pay-TV, analysts have said.

On Monday, sources told Reuters that Krishnan is nearing a deal to sell his $3 billion worth of power assets to government company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Malaysia's Star Newspaper reported that the sale to 1Malaysia was indicated at a price range of 9.92 billion ringgit ($3.30 billion) and 11.16 billion ringgit ($3.71 billion).

The billionaire has relisted companies with strong cash flows in recent years, relaunching part of his Maxis Bhd telecommunications services provider in what was Southeast Asia's biggest initial public offering in 2009. Last year, his team relisted Malaysian oil and gas services provider Bumi Armada Bhd.

Wow ! SPT Networks, Asia's beTV will be the New Place to Be for Non-Astro subscribers in the future starting from 2 April 2012. They are smart not to launch on 1 April as many people will be busy celebrating April Fool's Day. Hehe... joking only.

Anyway, since last year 2011, we in lousy Astroland sad.gif already have AXN Beyond HD (channel maybe only for Astro) and AXN HD with the following shows...

... that are now currently showing in Astro ...

AXN Beyond HD (Astro Byond)
Pan Am Season 1
Necessary Roughness Season 1
A Gifted Man Season 1
Chuck Season 4
Top Chef Season 8
Flipping Out Season 5
Combat Hospital Season 1
Jake Season 2 ... actually its Jake 2.0 ! There is no Season 2
Reaper Season 2

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

AXN HD (Astro Byond)
The Amazing Race Season 20 (shown 1 day after premiere in US)
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 11
The Voice Season 2

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Other News
Walking Dead & new Hawaii 5-O ... I think Astro have already finished screening Season 2 and new Season 3 will be shown soon in April or May 2012.

* AXN channel
* AXN HD channel
* AXN Beyond HD channel (Only available in HD ?)

Not sure if AXN Beyond is available only in HD. I am guessing there is no AXN Beyond, only got AXN Beyond HD.

Anyway, if AXN Beyond is exclusive, do you mean that this is only available in Astro, and not available in other Satellite or Cable Channel Providers? Sorry if I don't really understand what you mean by "exclusive".

Read this at... http://www.axnbeyond.com/get-axnbeyond ... which states that ...
...AXN Beyond is available for these channel providers...
Hong Kong
* nowTV - Channel 513
* TVB Pay Vision - Channel 23
* bbTV - Channel 309
Indonesia
* Indovision Channel 155
* Telkomvision Channel 126
Singapore
* StarHub Channel 525
* True Visions Channel 55

Astro launched Celestial HD (channel 309) and Kix HD (channel 729) on 1st March 2012. And on the same day, WaTV channel 315 was discontinued, B4U channel 133 was replaced by Bella channel 133.

I have phoned Astro Customer Support on 6 March 2012 and was informed that Celestial HD and Kix HD can be watched by ALL subscribers to the HD service, which is not tied to which package is subscribed. Was also informed that there is no time period before these are moved to different packages and any change will be until further notice. Maybe, maybe 1 month or many months later, they may change this and subscribers who did not subscribe to New Emporer package (or a few selected Superpack Packages) may not watch Celestial HD. Hopefully this never happens. For now, all subscribers to the Byond HD service can watch these 2 HD channels.

Hehe... maybe I guess that Astro wants to hook subscribers to the HD channels to make more money and when their target is reached, maybe they will lock Celestial HD only for New Emperor package (or a few selected Superpack Packages) subscribers.

Of course, for people who did not subscribe to the HD service (such as pay extra RM 20 per month or subscribe to Superpack 3), then they are locked out of all the HD channels, including Celestial HD and Kix HD.
