No problem, another new Hindi or Tamil is comin up soon on starhub, a test card is now up and sandwiched between STAR Gold n Sun TV. Will update again.

There needs to be a change of management in Astro.....surely a better channel lineup means a better lure to new customers to take up their service......not sure Wat is in their head. wink.gif

CN HD - launches in PHIL tomm 20 Jan

TURNER Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc., the company that operates cable channel Cartoon Network, has chosen the Philippines to be the first to experience its high-definition (HD) channel in the region, given the popularity of the network’s cartoon characters to Filipino kids, officials at a briefing yesterday said.

Lucien M. Harrington, the company’s vice-president for branding and communications, said the channel’s popularity among Filipino kids led them to launch the HD channel in the country.

“One, we have great partners here like SKYcable. Secondly, Filipino kids really love Cartoon Network, they really appreciate our content, like Ben (of Ben 10) is incredibly popular here,” Mr. Harrington said.

The Cartoon Network HD channel will be available on Jan. 20 through SKYcable at a package price pegged at P1,199. It will broadcast on channel 178 and complement the existing standard definition offering on channel 43, according to a press statement.

Claudia G. Suarez, programming head of Sky Cable Corp., said the subscription would come in a separate cable box.

She added that Cartoon Network fares well in terms of audience share among cable channels.

“If there are 150 cable channels, Cartoon Network is in the top 5, and the top 3 would be movie channels,” Ms. Suarez said during the briefing.

Mr. Harrington said the company will be focusing first in the Philippines, but it will be launching the HD channel in other countries during the year.

“We will just focus first on the Philippines but we will be going to launch it to other countries. We are looking across Asia but the focus is on Southeast Asia,” he said.

The Cartoon Network HD channel was first launched in October 2007 in the United States.

Meanwhile, the officials are optimistic that the HD platform will further push the channel’s audience share and the company’s retail business.

The company, through Cartoon Network Enterprises, Inc., manufactures products including toys, gaming consoles, home entertainment, accessories, clothing, footwear, and stationery.

“Content really drives the business, that’s why we will be having additional line-up for 2012,” James S. Moore, Turner Broadcasting System’s senior public relations manager, noting that the channel’s high-definition content will drive the company’s business.

He also added that the children-oriented business is a “recession-free industry.”

“It’s a very recession-free industry, and the products also. [Sales] go up and up,” he said. “These days, people are having less kids, but they still have the same number of grandparents and relatives to give them gifts, and income increases.”

Mr. Harrington said the highdefinition channel is a big investment for the company. He, however, declined to give figures.

“This is an important landmark for us. We want to be in the cutting edge of technology and entertainment. We have made an important investment in HD,” he said.

Cartoon Network HD will feature shows such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Ben 10, The Looney Tunes Show and Dragon Ball Z Kai. -- Cliff Harvey C. Venzon

Great, thanks pal! Many share the iew that ESPN HD feed is not satisfactory. hmm.gif

Sorry for the late reply....was tied uopwith work today....this is wat I gather:

ESPN Malaysia, Star Sports Malaysia and ESPN HD Malaysia feed (dedicated M'sia feed) are all sent to Astro via fiber optic - hence there should not be any loss/degrade of picture quality. If the channels were sent via satellite, then the signals will go thru various passes, i.e. SIN to Satellite, Satellite signals pulled down by Astro and re-uplinked again and then downlinked again to subscribers dish; which makes the quality worse.

Hence, it should be a compression issue on Astro's side.....they may have given movie channels a higher bitrate...

Even on Starhub, movie channels are given slightly higher bitrate than the Ent. channels.

As for HBO, the catalogue/old titles sometimes do not have HD tape available thus a SD tape is upconverted instead....not sure why they are stretched....maybe they feel most viewers want their widescreen TV filled up with video images. Should write in to complain! doh.gif FOX Movies Premium does a better job than HBO.

For HD channels with no subtitles, likely it is also sent via fiber.....channels sent vi fiber does not carry subtitles by default.

Yup, most of HD5 programs are upscaled. Why? No competing Free to Air Channels, hence HD5 folks are being complacent...

Hope this helps....... biggrin.gif

Celestial & KIX HD

Hong Kong – Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE) is launching two HD channels – Celestial Movies HD (CM HD) and KIX HD, in Malaysia on DTH platform Astro, on March 1.

Malaysia becomes the first market in the region to carry CM HD, and the second market for KIX HD following the channel’s Singapore launch in November 2011.

Celestial Movies HD offers first run and exclusive Chinese and Asian films as well as all-time favorites. KIX HD features five distinct programming pillars: fight events, action series, action reality, action movies and a late-night block of thriller movies.

The two channels will be available on the Astro B.yond HD platform via Channel 309 and Channel 729, respectively.

We hope the schedule wll be like spore KIX and not another malaysian version.

should be an existing feed....not sure if the Astro schedules are out but you can check the S'pore schedule here http://mio.singtel.com/miotv/programme-gui...054&d=2/27/2012

One advice....most of the movies on KIX HD are 4:3 stretched.....apparently they did not not True HD rights for the movies previously acquired/or they did not anticipated they need HD versions previously. 8-(
