You are welcome.

Actually, when Chikana mentioned "when you see 'boot' on the front...", it means power is switched off completely and then switched on back again, 'boot' appears and then press standby... which is only necessary when auto-update did not start.

When the Byond is switched on (not from standby), usually auto-update will automatically start if an update is available so its not necessary to follow Chikana's method. Just wait when Byond is switched on... 'boot' appears and auto-update will start. If auto-update did not start, then use Chikana's method.

FYI... there is NO new update for the normal Byond box at the present time which is still at version 3.0s. Take note... for people with the normal Byond box and the old Astro DMT box... because no update will happen at the present time, eventhough whatever method is used !

ONLY for people with the Byond PVR (with internal harddisk), there is an update to version 7 which also enable use of the ethernet port. If your's is NOT Byond PVR, then no update is available and the version is still 3.0s eventhough you forced update !!

For the normal Byond box (non PVR), the ethernet port still cannot be used yet for now.
*
The update is for the usage of ethernet only. I thought also for the astro-on-the go

Not sure if there has been any changes, but from what I know before this, condo residents need approval from the management to install byond..if ur condo already has byond dish, then no problem n yes it is FOC..

Correct me if im wrong smile.gif

thanks for the reply, my condo only have the SD dish.. the byond HD dish is not available yet. thus the management has approved the residents to install the byond dish only within their approved location.

Astro will ask you to return the old dish which should have come together with your decoder

Hi guys, just wish to confirm, how can we perform surge protection for astro beyond dish and decoder?

I plan to buy belkin surge protector but somehow the ariel port seemed mismatch...

Any idea?

They will intend to charge.
But i told them last time when the installer come to install they did not give me the disc, so i don't have it.
Finally i think Astro waive the charge on me. (Can't remember as it was long time ago.)

Yes, today morning the Byond box (not Byond PVR) also got software updated to version 7.0. Now can plug in the ethernet cable and successfully detected my modem.

Note... the Byond box network connection is not used for watching Astro On-The-Go directly on TV. Astro On-The-Go is for watching channels streamed through internet to mobile smartphones but be careful of data charges from mobile telcos if not on monthly plan. At present, not available for android smartphones, will come in future. We can also use our streamyx broadband connection to watch Astro On-The-Go channels so that we don't have to pay data charges. If the modem got wifi, then can use smartphone internet browser to watch.

I think the Byond box network connection is used for selecting and confirming movies on Video On Demand so that we don't have to use sms or phone call to confirm purchase of any VOD movies to watch. I did not subscribe to PVR so cannot check what is inside the "Video On Demand" in the Home Menu. Please correct me if I am wrong. The Byond box network connection is definitely NOT for Astro On-The-Go service. Yes for VOD.

I watched the Astro On-The-Go preview channels using my computer internet browser and the streamed video quality is not HD and ... ah hem... is of course cannot compare with the Byond box direct to TV.

Channel 100 is now VOD Help.

* Byond PVR (with internal harddisk) software update started a few days ago.

Here are a few screenshots of the Byond (not PVR) menu...

Don't know anything yet about the Byond / Byond PVR "manufactured" by Technicolor and Kaon. My Byond, not PVR, (manufactured by Pace) was updated to version 7.0 early this morning at about 2 am.
