yup, can turn off the dc pump if i use the push switch on the unit, or if i turn off the breaker switch.

but im just wondering whether normal for dc pump to start running even without water supply (with both switch and breaker on).  i though pump will only start when power and water is supplied.

i usually dont have a habit to turn off the switch at shower heater, only turn off breaker once i come out of the bathroom. sometimes i forget so breaker can be turned on for a few hours. if this is the case then dc pump will run for few hours also  sweat.gif

That's not normal. And there will be safety concern if you run the pump dry. You need to contact panasonic technician to come and have a look.

based on my experience. i've used alpha ac pump and panasonic dc pump. pressure wise i dont feel there's a big difference. however, noise difference is "sky and earth"

Sorry newb here. Which is noisier, AC pump or DC pump?

AC PUMP noiser, stronger water flow
DC pump less noise, not so strong water flow

change your habit of instead of turning off the knob, just press the switch to off it then.

just installed panasonic DH-3MP1 today. i notice that the dc pump starts running as soon as i power on the device and without any water. is this normal?

before this using alpha ac pump shower heater. pump will only run when water is turned on and will auto stop when water is turned off.

worried if i forget to turn off the power, dc pump will run throughout the whole night.

If you let the pump dry run, it will burned. Worse will caught fire. Water pump is design to run with water. And is only kick on when flow are detected. Something is not right with your pump.

The benefit of switching off the main switch is much greater than leaving it on permanent. Imagine if you have power surged and it will damage your water pump. Pump now have move electronic component, and it also waste energy.

safer to run less electronic component at each heater?

I just install Alpha smart 18i and Joven I88P on last Saturday. Both are DC Inverter pump silent series with rain showers and water supply from water tank, i.e. low pressure.
1) Joven I88P - the pump only 1 fix speed, that's why always operate maximum and noisier. Installation also take more time than Alpha. The connector at the rain shower difficult to tighten and slight water leak. Only advantage is safety wise, the built in RCD is 10mA which is more sensitive than Alpha 18i only 15mA.
2) Alpha 18i - adjustable pump speed, hence, sounds like more silent. Quality and finishing better, easier to install. Good for low pressure water supply as the outcome is better.

RCD or ELCB in the Alpha 18i. The salesman told me it is ELCB and website (http://www.alpha-electric.com/showroom_smart-series_18i.html) also mentioned ELCB. Remember that ELCB and RCD/RCB works differently.

Thanks.

Even Panasonic latest instant water heater looks like also using EL©B, mentioned inside "See All Specs" in the link below.
http://www.panasonic.com/my/consumer/home-...dh-3ndp1ms.html

Recent news stated something like this:
QUOTE
The Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) in 2014 had then issued a circular which is concurrent with The Electricity Regulations 1994 which it has uploaded on its website to urge developers to practise the correct use of the RCD especially for the water heater equipment.
Source: http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-heater-unsafe/

Looks like I should change the instant water heater switch to the one equipped with RCD.
I hope that the ELCB and RCD can work well together.

Just realized that all Alpha heaters' price was increased by almost 10%.

Last time bought my Alpha Smart 18i at RM580, nowadays cheapest I could see is RM630.

What's the reason behind the price increase? Are other brands doing the same?

I don't know about that brand. For Panasonic, and Canton that I have experience before, is not worth the money. + Labor and actual pump from the same manufacture will cost almost the same buying one. Furthermore buying one is Brand New and 1 year warranty. Repair only the motor.
