I have 2 units of Alpha Water Heater c/w Pump Model 18i. I bought them about 3 years ago. One unit is out of order despite the 10 years warranty on pump whereas the other unit is still operating. If you want my objective opinion, I would recommend against buying this water heater despite the long warranty on the pump. After sales service of this company isn't something worth mentioning.

Yup, i agree on this. My units 18i already done pump replacement less than 2 years usage and now the heater not activate after 5 years usage. Bought it at year 2012.

Now i need to find a quick replacement

just installed panasonic DH-3MP1 today. i notice that the dc pump starts running as soon as i power on the device and without any water. is this normal?

before this using alpha ac pump shower heater. pump will only run when water is turned on and will auto stop when water is turned off.

worried if i forget to turn off the power, dc pump will run throughout the whole night.

yup, can turn off the dc pump if i use the push switch on the unit, or if i turn off the breaker switch.

but im just wondering whether normal for dc pump to start running even without water supply (with both switch and breaker on).  i though pump will only start when power and water is supplied.

i usually dont have a habit to turn off the switch at shower heater, only turn off breaker once i come out of the bathroom. sometimes i forget so breaker can be turned on for a few hours. if this is the case then dc pump will run for few hours also  sweat.gif

The Panasonic water heater operating differently than the Alpha water heater.

Alpha water heater does not have additional "On-Off" switch on the unit itself versus the Panasonic one.

To operate the Panasonic water heater, the water supply has to be turn on all the time, just switch on and off the water heater by pressing the "On-Off" button on the unit, given that the circuit breaker is on. The product manual has specifically mentioned that do not turn off water supply to the water heater when the unit is operating, or something similar to that.

Oh my. As previously I am using joven and Panasonic. And I didn't turn off the on off. As joven on off is too fragile for this.

3 wires only, very simple.just connect accordingly.
save the 100 buck

red/brown - live
black - neutral
green - ground
off the power n reconfirm the line-in voltage before touching the live/neutral wires using test pen or multimeter

Bought one during fair, used for about a month, so far so good, satisfied.

1) With temperature set to a fix value, the power applied to the water heater depends on the incoming water flow rate, example, if water flow rate suddenly lowered, the power applied to the water heater will be lower also, hence reduce power consumption, and vice versa.

2) Water pump is always turned on whenever the unit is turned on via the push On-Off button, no way to turn off the pump manually. The pump noise level is acceptable for me, not too loud.

3) Water temperature settings retains as long as you don't turn off the main power supply to the unit. The clock settings will always get retained, regardless of the main supply, because there is a coin battery inside the unit.

how do you feel about the water pressure? Normal or powerful? I am comparing to Joven/Alpha rain shower before buying

For me, the water pressure coming out from the Panasonic DH-3NDP1MS water heater is just nice.
Staying in around the middle floor of a 29 floors condo.

My preference towards not so powerful water pressure as I do have experience using water heater with high pressure water that feel hurt on my skin during showering.

I believe this water heater can vary its pump speed according to the incoming water pressure, to maintain steady water pressure or flow and also water temperature.
